FYI: I will be testing samples of the new VPA 2 blade head in a week or so, sharpening, tuning, flight characteristics, etc. Nothing overly precise, just enough experimentation to give get a solid first impression. Stay tuned . . .
BTW, there will be photos.
So this will be an unscientific "Ashby" field test that will give us REAL data that trad hunters can use? I sure will miss all that scientific mumbo-jumbo! :bigsmyl: :bigsmyl:
Yep Mike. It will be in written in common KAINTUCK language.
Do you have to be from Kentucky to understand KAINTUCK? Looking forward to it.
Probably, I have a "Pig Giggin" buddy from Maryland who apparently understands it!
First samples were sent out today to get Teflon coated. Hope to get them back quickly. I like how they turned out from heat treat. I think we can also sell them to hardware stores as chisels after what I have seen from initial torture testing! :biglaugh:
Looking forward to the pics and see some testing results.
Dis outta be goud. Finely a post I cans understood. Lol
Any info available on the cutting width and grain weights offered? I love the 3 blade VPAs but I also like a good 2 blade with a big 1 1/2" or bigger cut.

If god had intended man to hunt with THREE blade heads, we would be finding three bladed knapped heads from our ancestors. :D
Can`t wait to see them!
Bonebuster: Funny you mentioned that. I have an arrowhead (bird point) someone gave me that's made of bronze and estimated made in the Corinthian Age. It's an EXACT miniture (half inch long) duplicate of a Wensel Woodsman. Three blade, vented blades and all. Undoubtedly one of my relatives made it. BW
I knew you guys been around a LONG time Barry but Sheez! The Bronze age?
UB, I always suspected you were Greek
:biglaugh:
do you think you'll have them ready for this season?
Yep. They should be ready for this season. At least the broadheads should be, but not sure if the "official" packaging will be.
I think we are going to call them the X-Terminator.
copy, please let us tradgangers get a head start on the purchasing!!! I will take 200 grainers!!
Patrick
The guy posting on this thread using Barry Wensel's name and picture is obviously an imposter. Barry Wensel no longer resides in "Keosauqua", in fact he spends his summers lounging on the northeast coast field testing fresh seafood at some place called "Barnacle Billys":^)
Patrick, the way I understand it Tradgangers are eligible for free shipping when placing an early order. Ray at VPA mentioned it and gave a code for Tradgangers to use when ordering. If Jeff reads this I'm sure he will post a clarification.
Sure will be nice to see a pic of these.....please?
Hey Z, JIMB posted a link with pics on page one. Great looking heads!
Page #1 of this thread has a link to some photos of the unpainted prototypes.
THANKS!
I missed that post.
I was up on the screw in model.
Looked like a good quality head.
For some reason I thought these were something different.
Patiently waiting for a glue on some day...
For now I think the heads will be released in the weights previously listed, due to current material and process limitations. VPA wants a well built 2 blade option made available for a reasonable price. At this point producing heads approaching a 3:1 ratio would push the price well beyond what most would be willing to pay, thus a compromise in design seems necessary.
If someone wants a specific head design made available it can be created on a custom basis, however the cost of a special built head would blow most guy's mind, not to mention their pocketbooks. I know it would mine:^(
My personal choice will be the 250 grain since I've been shooting 250 gr. 3-blade Terminators well out of my 60 pound Tall Tines recurve. My total arrow weight is approx. 600 gr. I also prefer the longer profile of the 250.
VPA is at least making an effort to produce a head that should fill the requirements of a number of archers who don't want to pay over-the-top prices just to "experiment" with a 2 blade head. One of the things that makes this sport so interesting is all of the choices we have and make on the road to "personal satisfaction". To each his own!
