I got a new bow for myself from the dreaded auction site. I contacted the seller, after a couple of phone calls to make myself feel better about buying off that site found myself the proud owner of a quillian t/d patriot. I haven't heard alot of talk about these bows, obviosly have heard the name of the maker. Cant recall ever seeing one in the classifieds, what can ya'll tell me about'um.
Supposed to be FAST, but never shot one.

Don't know about the Recurves, but I have a Bamboo Longhunter Longbow that is a fine shooting bow.
Don Stokes should be along when he spots this thread, he knew Dan and is a wealth of knowledge on Dan's bows.
There were really two Quillian Patriots - one made by Jeffery Archery, the other by Martin. I've had two of the Jeffery-made ones and they are fantastic, forgiving, and tough bows. If I could find another I would buy it for a backup.
I have 4 of Dan's bows . Two Longhunters one 80# and the other 66# I have a Canebrake 72# and a Patrriot 73# all fantastic bows . The Patriot I hunted the most as it is a take-down and travels well . Very good meat and potatoes bows . Very shootable .
I have a Quillian patriot.I got it about 20 years ago and yes its fast. the recommended brace height is low from 6 3/8---6 5/8 from the string to throat of grip. you got your self a keeper.
I was a Quillian dealer until he sold out. Patriot was smooth, stable and fast. Throw on a good TS-1 FF string, keep the brace around 6 1/4" and you have yourself an excellent hunting bow.
I have several Patriots made by Jeffrey. The later models have an accent strip dividing the riser. He called these the Patriot II. He named them after the Patriot missiles that became famous in the Gulf war, which happened at about the same time he came out with the bow. He made a few with a longer riser for longer draws, making the bow 66" instead of the regular 62", using the same limbs. The later models also have a cutaway shelf, tapering away from back to belly. I had done that on a belt sander to one of my bows to improve clearance and make the bow more forgiving in hunting situations. Dan liked the idea when he saw what I'd done and incorporated it into his design.
The Patriot shoots better for me than any other recurve I've had. Years ago I won the MS State IBO Championship with one of mine, shooting wood against carbon and sights. The second and third place shooters were pissed, because I had won the longbow division the day before with my Bamboo Longhunter. Two State championships, back to back. Good shooting bows! :)
The Canebreak is the only bow Dan sold that was faster, but not by much.
I met Dan twice, and he made a big impression on me both times. I have a bamboo longhunter thats about 80@ 27. Haven't shot it much latley. When I got it, I shot it everyday and it will get the job done.
I`ve had a couple Patriots as well as a Canebreak and Bamboo Longhunter. all fine bows.If I recall correctly the Patriot II was made by Fedora Jr. and was a very well made bow and fast.RC
