On June 16th, I arrived at Compton's to help set-up the Stalker Recurve booth and deliver South's bows. I saw Chuck Deshler(TwoTracks) and asked him when he was going to start on my new bow. It seemed he had been putting me off for several weeks about building me a "Pure Michigan" Longwalker. I had bought Chuck's personal Longwalker at Grayling last year and REALLY liked it. But... it had a lot of osage in it, and I'm just not an Osage fan. So....
Chuck surprised me with this beauty!

64" 49#@28". Curly ash veneers, walnut I-beam and limb core, curly ambrosia maple riser. That wasn't the only surprise.
Mike,
That is something. Very nice. No two alike with that one.
God Bless, Pierre
That is one very beautiful bow! congrats. Whats the other surprise??
That is a nice bow,Chad is full of surprises!
Beautiful bow! How's it shoot?
I had asked South Cox to send me the cutouts from my new Stalker Longbow so I could have a knife made. The wood never showed up, South always seemed to be putting me off. Unbeknownst to me Chuck had formed a conspiracy with South and KHALVERSON(Kevin) to have the wood shipped to Chuck, and Chuck shipped it to Kevin, and this was the result. First. the bow: (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa7/owlbait/IMG_0707.jpg)
The knife: (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa7/owlbait/IMG_0792.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa7/owlbait/IMG_0789.jpg) (http://i199.photobucket.com/albums/aa7/owlbait/IMG_0786.jpg)
Mike,
Sweet bow (that streak is one of a kind)! Now that you are pro-staff you will have to kill something with big antlers for the hero pic. :D
Thanks Chuck, Kevin, and South! Compton's falls on my birthday and Father's Day weekend and I had an amazing weekend. New bow, new knife, old friends, and my new boy Jordan to shoot with! Just doesn't get any better than that!
Thanks cacciatore, that bow is a Longwalker, made by Chuck Deshler, Two Tracks!
Will, I would love to shoot ANYTHING, my hunting has been poor the last few years! Chuck and Bill Dunn have a "Special" ProStaff and I was lucky enough to be included :bigsmyl: That is really a pretty bow and I can't wait to shoot something with it!
WOW!! is all i can say, very sweeeet.
Wow very nice looking bow. That male and ash are perfect together.
That Chuck fella makes a mighty pretty bow. Better keep an eye on him..

Ron, sometimes he's closer to Chuckie than Chuck :bigsmyl: When he's Chuck though, he makes some fine products and I'm glad he's my friend!
Glade you like the bow Mike, and the knife.
Ron,you scare me!
What very nice surprises!
Congratulations!
God bless,Mudd
PS: A thought to ponder on.... why is it that when most of us(me included)find ourselves in a position of no knowing something our minds almost always look for the "there must be something wrong" place instead of trusting.. I'm just asking?

I believe it's nothing more than just human nature.
KEV
<><
That's a couple of nice surprises!
First off, congrats on having such great friends!
Those are fabulous bows and that knife is downright cool.
Mudd, it has to do with THIS band of characters! :biglaugh: I pm'd Chuck dozens of times trying to get him to commit to building me a new bow. I e-mailed South several times about the wood. Kevin is my best friend and he has made knives for Chuck. Apparently, I almost walked in on him finishing this knife. Chuck even commented about wheter I had a KH knife :D They did good keeping it all a secret though.
Very nice; bows and the knife.
I am proud for you!
Thanks Jake. I hope the broadheads were what you expected. I'm still smiling at splitting the difference :D I'm just amazed at the wood patterns Mother Nature provides our bowyers to work with.
Mike,
I'm thinking that Stalker bow and rainbow arrow are gonna get you noticed at a shoot. :bigsmyl:
No problems in Michigan but down there in LSU country :dunno:
That thing is prettier than the flowers for sure.
Hey Fred, my photographic skills are lacking, so I hoped the posies would help. No luck, eh?
mike
im glad you like the knife
i had a heck of a time keepin it hiddin from you on several ocassions
know you need to politly ask chuck for the riser cut outs
i think i can coach you thru a forged knife for an owlbait original
Mike,Kevin and I stood in front of the Stalker booth talking to Ryan and his wife,Mike was accusing Kevin of a cospiracy with me and the new Longwalker bow.(Mike pm'd me for 2hrs the night before dropping hints about a new bow,it was all I could do not to spill the beans),Ryan said something about all the wood from Mikes Stalker was run thru the chipper after South finished the order. So I ran back to the trailer and picked up the knife and came back and said "Ryan, not all of the wood was chipped up".ryan replied,"OH! is that the Knife" So it would seem that Kevin had nothing to do with the Longwalker bow conspiracy, BUT! Kevin,Ryan,South and myself had Everything to do with the knife conspiracy. And it turned out to be Mikes Birthday. What a good day that was eh Mike?
A BIG thanks to South for getting the wood out in time and to my man Kevin for his skills at the forge. I was just a logistics manager for that deal. sure was fun though!
Beautuful bow!!!!!!! :clapper: I have to try one of those sometime.
It was a great birthday and a great surprise! I thought Ryan's comment had to do with my choice of woods! Good bunch of guys, if you ever get a chance to meet these four characters, step up and say Hi. Sounds like if Chuck has the wood from my new bow that I might get a tutorial for forging my own knife!
please phrase your answer in the form of a question, politely!
Chuck, do you have the cutouts from my "NEW" "PROSTAFF EDITION" Longwalker so that I might be schooled in the art of knife forging?
I'm sorry what was that?
Owlbait, thank you for selling Chuck his bow back , I bought it back from him at Compton and I'm loving it. My first osage bow. Smooth as butter and fast this might be my shooter for the season.
Dear Chuck, Master Bowyer, would you be so kind as to provide me with the left over material from my most special bow so that I might attempt, with the coaching and graces of KHALVERSON, to make a knife to match my ProStaff Edition LONGWLAKER? Please? :goldtooth:
That's a pretty bow!
Sure, no problem buddy!
Tracker1, that is a GREAT shooter. I just wanted one that was made for me and I was diggin' the "Pure Michigan" idea. I headshot a couple squirrels with that bow and my best shot was a 14 yard headshot on a blackbird. I know you will enjoy it. Get an oliverstacy string for it if you can, they are the bomb!
Thanks Chuck, please forward to your knifemaker and co-conspirator, KHALVERSON. :D
wow
Can you say SWEEEET!!!!, What a bow and what a knife. I am envious of both. Congrats.
very nice bow! how does it shoot?
Beauty of a bow there bud  I am thinking I know somebody with more bows than me  Except I think yours are more purty!
:archer:
Well, I've been shooting all my bows these days. Getting some numbers to compare, and get a feeling for hunting season, and this pretty bow shoots right there with the rest of them! I'm really looking forward to getting my small game flu-flus out and chasing birds and squirrels. What fun to carry, light as a feather, and kicks those arrows downrange with authority. I'm not sure if I have as many bows or as pretty of ones as you Mike, but I can say I have some bows that are very unique :bigsmyl:
I have always admired Chucks work great bows. And I love how he pushes Michigan woods
Mike, congrats. What a set of presents for your birthday and fathers day. Both are beautiful pieces, from a couple of great artists. Love their work. Lucky man.
Thanks David, Good seeing you and the Missus' last weekend at Grayling.
Hey Mike, You gonna push them TuffHeads thru a Deer with you new LongWalker?
From what I saw on the first run thru the chrony I just might. Actually, I'm going by seniotity: Zipper, Stalker longbow, Longwalker. Except the Longwalker jumps to the head of the line for the MTB Bird Hunt and small game season. My daughter has a woodchuck problem so when the weather settles out next week I'm going Ghillie and Longwalker for a whistle pig!
That thing will eat up a heavy arrow, ask Bob B.
I guess the "wood chipper" comment couldn't have come at a better time. :goldtooth: LOL!
Chuck builds a sweet longbow! I had a chance to fling a few of my arrows through Mike's bow. Smooth shooting and points great!
I sure do miss hanging out with everyone...
Aloha Guys!
Come back anytime Ryan, it was great having you and the wife at Comptons with all of us. Maybe next year you can bring South with you.
Thanks for the compliment.
CTT
I say we have Compton's at Ryan's next year! No 3d, just island goats and pigs! Bring lots of arrows, I saw how Ryan rock-proofed his :scared:
I AM IN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
TTT for the knife crowd.
Beauiful bow and knife and even greater friends.
For a guy that acts and posts like I do, I'm fortunate to have the friends that I have, and a great wife to put up with me :bigsmyl: Thanks.
Mike that is a real nice looking combo. What draw weight is your new bow? If you go to Elm Hall or GLLI would you bring it so i can take a look at it?
Kevin makes a nice looking knife.
John, the Longwalker is 49@28. I'm planning on attending both Elm Hall and GLLI this year. I'll look you up. Kevin makes a great knife and sheath, I'm amazed at what he does with that forge and hammer!
