Title: arrow selection help
Post by: ESP on June 28, 2011, 01:18:00 PM
I just ordered a Hoyt Buffalo.  I ordered a 50#@28.  I draw 30".  I would like to shoot a full length shaft.  I have a dozen 2117s do you think they would work?  If those do not work, I would like some suggestions for axis or FMJ?

Thanks

Eric

I think the 2117's will work, if you are not locked into a point weight. I have found them to be a pretty versatile arrow, but you may need to up your point weight.

I hope so I have an Assenheimer in the same weight range that like 2117 with 145 heads.  Just first time with a bow with carbon in the limbs.  Do not know if that effects arrow selection that much.

I would guess they'd be too stiff.  Maybe with a lot of weight up front.  Try Stu's Calculator to be sure.

Full length I bet they will be fine with a minimum of 145, if you cut them to 31"s than you would need a lot more point weight. That Hoyt will be about 57-58#s at 30"s as they stack a tad bit after 29"s but not much. Shawn

Stu's calculator says that will be right on - but maybe too weak if left full-length.  I use 2117 wih a 50# recurve, but drawing 29.5 and cutting arrows to 30".  I use D-97 and can use either 125 or 145 point weight.
