afternoon fellas, as my name implies I dont have a whole lot of longbow hunting under my belt curves yes. Is there and special consideration given to picking a broadhead for a longbow? I understand recurves penetrate better and I pretty much use the biggest blade I can get my hands on with them. I got a northern mist 60@28 arrow weightis around 700gr.should I be thinking narrower broadheads for this bow?
The type of bow has zero impact on the broadhead. The mass and speed dictate KE, other variables add to velocity.
If you would shoot a significantly lighter bow, or arrow then a smaller diameter broadhead would be a consideration (or 2 blades versus 3 or 4), but all things relatively equal an arrow flung from a recurve differs little from an arrow flung from a longbow.
I shoot longbows only and I shot the 2-blade Hill Heads then the woodsman heads and then the snuffers .Then I shot the 4 blade 135 gr( more like a 2 blade non vented with 2 small blades bent up from the ferrel) Zwickey And they fly and penetrate great, and I will not go to any other head.JMHO
Congratulations on your very fine NM bow. Assuming your draw is 28", your arrrows are a fine choice topped with any 2-blade IMO. Razor sharp will passthrough most anything in NC & likely North America. Please see amar911's buffalo taken with an Ashby 2-blade head around your same draw weight. One badaz buffalo for sure! Welcome to the long side.
I shoot and hunt with both longbow / recurve and use the same broadhead out of both . My favorite is the Magnus stinger and penatration is about the same on both bows . I do however like to shoot closer shots with my one peice longbow and can shoot my 3 peice recurve out to longer distances but it has nothing to do with arrow speed but more about the recurve being more stable for me . You will enjoy hunting with your long bow and I think it makes you a better shot with the heaver recurve because you have to hold the lighter longbow more steady .

Bingo! With my long bows I have listed below I shoot a 745 gr CX 350 and a 2 blade 190 Grizzly el grande
^ i agree, to an extent. if you are shooting a lighter weight longbow versus the same weight in a recurve, there can be a speed difference, and you might lean toward a longer, more efficient broadhead. fact is, pretty much any bow over 50 lb will kill em with any broadhead you shoot. I shoot grizzlies and abowyers from my addiction. I try to go for pass through instead of a big hole. at 60lb you should do fine with whatever :archer2:
