Title: Clicker Help
Post by: John Fragale on June 23, 2011, 08:50:00 PM
I love shooting with the clicker,it really improved my shooting. I switched over to the string loop material, instead of the chain. but after every shot, the string keeps twisting. Getting to be a pain. Any suggestions on correcting this problem.

John,

Shot a clicker for three years, thought it was the answer.

Finally developed an anchor point, and took off the clicker, best day of my life.

The clicker is a bandaid, most people that use them (like myself) don't have a consistent anchor point.  So my advice, work on an anchor point, develop it, and take off your clicker.

John,
I would think that the string loop material would be a little stiff.  I replace mine with a small diameter branded nylon.  Some recommend using the lime green or bright orange color (color doesn't matter, just what I remember seeing) bow fishing line.  Both seem a little softer than string loop material.
Another think to consider.  When I get some twisting of my clicker rope, it is directly related to a poor release.  The poor release cause eccessive string oscillation and the twisting.  I correct this by making sure I have a good deep hook, that I don't pluck the string, and I am pulling through my release with good back tension.

I went with a bootlace connected to the string loop. The heavier lace does not twist.

I use a thicker line. The dry line sold in construction stores works well. Never had mine twist.

Set it up so the line can spin. What I mean is drill out the clicker plate so that the line going through it isn't tight to the edges. I'd thread it through, frey the end, then melt it so it can't come back through. If it can spin then it won't twist!
