Top Hand Wrangler & Guide School
Hornes Archery is proud to announce that we are branching off into the outfitting business.
We will be offering a two week wrangler school in Southern Colorado. This is a two week school to train a person in all the jobs and tasks that a wrangler may experience or be expected to perform. Being a wrangler is not a glamorous job, but is a lot of fun if you really enjoy the high country. This is also a stepping stone to being a guide for an outfitter in the industry today.
The class will be July 11th - 23rd. This is short notice I know. Sorry for any of you that are interested for not getting this information out sooner. This is a small class of 6 students. You will need to be prepared to ride and pack most everyday. When we get through you will be a hand and a true asset to any outfitter.
Although we will not need any help this year we do have friends in the business that do.

That sounds like a good deal Mark, It can sure boost a fellas ability to get a good job for the fall. Also with any outfit that runs summer pack trips. Good luck.

Adam would be a terrific candidate for this program; but we have made plans; wish weda' known sooner.
I wanted to do this right out of High School, but like alot of kids, parents have a better idea idea what you should do than yourself.
I'm very greatful for where my life has taken me and wouldn't want to change anything now, but I often wonder where I would be now if I would have followed my heart?

I went to a guide school in the Selway in Idaho. I am very glad I did. learned alot and met alot of folk that I would not have. Got to get paid to hunt! I am proud of where I am and what I am doing for a living now but am very glad I followed my heart to the River of No Return! :campfire: <>< del
You guys are right a kid out of high school or a retired person is typical of what we see.
I was raised in a guides home and the outfitting business is just the same thing that has always been a part of my life.
This is a great opportunity to get into the business. We will be offering schools again next summer. If this is to short of notice there is always next year.

I went to " Northwestern Outfitting and Guide school" in Victor,MT back in the early 80's and have to say..Even if down the road you decide to pursue another career. The knowledge you recieve from going to a guide school is an invaluble asset you will carry with you for the rest of your life...,

gsdmikko - You are so right that the information learned can be used either working for someone or to get you better prepared for a self hunt.
Sounds like a great oppurtunity. We are booked up at that time but might think about it in the future. Would like to be better with horses.

Mike that sound good. For the last couple of years I have been offering a back woods riding class,its just a 2 day class here at the house to help guys be safe in the woods.
Wish I had the time....I'd sign up just for the experience.

Buckster, That's right over the last 12 years we have worked a lot of retired people as wranglers and guides.
huntschool, Yes, the future employment is typically seasonal and is exactly what the school and training is all about. In the past a lot of kids we would see were not mentally prepared for the work expected by a outfitter. We hope to give our students a true picture of what will be expected of them in the outfitting business.

Mike - I attended a guide school near Hamilton Montana right out of high school during the summer of 1978. Tuition, airfare, and a little spending money was my graduation present from my parents.
I ended up working for an outfitter in Montana that fall, but his business had nothing to do with horses, it was all about backpacks...8^)
It was a very rewarding experience and I still proud of my now framed MT Guide license...8^)

Zbone - Glad to hear that you got to experience going to a Guide School and then work a season in the field. Look us up when you retire or have a little free time. There is a great need for people with experience.
