I see a lot of folks asking about how a certain bow's shelf is cut. Thought it might be helpful for selecting arrow spine if everyone, who knows, how their bow is cut to list it.
I'll start with:
Blacktail recurve......-3/16"
Good idea. ACS CX 3/16 past center. Schafer LB Center.
Thanks Bjorn. Just thought it would help us all. Would be nice to get info. for:

All of the Rose Oak Creations recurves by bowywer Brandon Stahl are cut 1/8" past center which mean they have a (-1/8) number.
Lynn Harrelson longbow- to center
Abbott longbow- +1/16
I know all the recurve bows built by Wes Wallace are cut 3/16" past center so their numbers are (-3/16).
I don't know anything about how the shelf is cut on the Royal longbow he builds.
Unless I'm mistaken, the shelf is what the arrow sits on; the sight window is what you're asking about..
Thank you for the correction. I always refer to it as how the shelf is cut. In other words, it's how deep the shelf is cut into the riser. But I think we are on the same page.
Good start on these bows guys! Keep it coming. Let's cover all the bases.
Stalker recurves are 3/16 past center.
Kanati is cut to center.
Pittsley's Predator is cut 3/16" past center or -3/16".
Apex Predator's are listed on his site...apex predator llc.
Cumberland +1/8"
Sapelo +1/8"

Wassaw to center
 This will be a good resource for all of us.
Kohannah Kurve is cut to center....just read this on another thread.

Eaglewing, Whatever the customer wants
Very good guys. Keep 'em coming. After we compile this list I'll make a sheet up that anyone can come and view in the future.
Toelke Whip is cut to center
Thanks Tx. I have one coming next week. This is what got me thinking about this.
RER Arroyo and the XR T/D 3/16th. past and actually on the 3 I own almost 1/4" past. We will say 3/16ths. for good measure. Shawn
Zipper is cut to center, Centaur is cut to center.
I believe Zippers are cut past center at least the ones I owned were at least 1/8th. past and I think more. Shawn
I emailed Bob and Tracy for clarification on the Zipper. Thanks!
Sometimes bows can be tricky to measure especially if the surface is curves, I measured my Zipper..... it will be interesting to see what Bob responds.

Just a word of caution re: Stu's calculator numbers. Just because a bow is cut 3/16 beyond center does NOT mean you enter -3/16 into the calculator! The calculator wants to know how far the ARROW is from center, which needs to include the thickness of the arrow plate too. Typically a -3/16 cut bow has a 1/16 plate which equals -1/8 for the calculator. I can't tell you how often I've seen plate thickness not considered when people complain the calculator does't work for them.
Dan you got that one right.
If you select a bow from the database you have to enter the plate thickness in the box below. where it says.
"For specific bow models, enter strike plate thickness _
(X.XX or fractional equivalent) ."
Talked with Bill of Zipper bows at Cloverdale. His extreme risers are 3/16 past center. And I beleive all others are either the same or 1/8th.

Absolutely! I believe this measurement is the single most important entry into Stu's calc.
Schafer Silvertip T/D is -3/16".

Thanks Stu and Les! When I ordered a Whip from Dan Toelke he said it was cut to center. I'll try and verify the Bob Lee bows too.
Dave will send a better spread sheet to you later.
I am breaking down the info into
bow type
center cut fraction
center cut decimal.
You and Stu should have it later this afternoon.
1991 Sky Sky Hawk = 1/8" past center.
2009 Zona T/D Recurve = center.
I've always measured the center by finding my center of the limbs, mark that spot then along with stringing the bow I also tape some B50 to those marks then measure the shelf.
Worked for me for may years.
Just got off the phone with Ron LaClair at Shrew.
Prior to 2011 bows were cut 1/8 beyond center so -1/8
starting in 2011 they started to cut to center 0
Dave I included info in most recent excel I sent you.
Great thread guys. Good idea.
Here is the list as of this morning. Shrew and Zipper bows were confirmed by the bowyers yesterday.
If using Stu's calculator you need to account for the thickness of the strike plate material. example a bow cut to -3/16 with a +1/8 material on the strike plate would have a center cut of -1/16.

I have turned the list into a pdf document. click on this link Bow Center Cuts PDF (http://www.heilakka.com/bowcentercuts.xlsx.pdf)
Depending on your computer set up you should be able to either open it with Adobe reader or save it to your computer.
Here is the link to Stu Miller Dynamic Spine Calculator (http://www.heilakka.com/stumiller/) page. To use the calculator you need to have Microsoft Excel or the Open Office spread sheet program on your computer.
here is the direct link for the DSC instruction manual in PDF (http://www.heilakka.com/stumiller/calculatorinstructions.pdf) . has great information and photos on measuring center cut, strike plate, internal and external footings and more.
I have a question. When you say 1/8" past center or -1/8", does that mean the bow is 1/8" wider than if the bow were cut in half right down the middle, or does it mean it is 1/8" narrower than if the bow were cut in half down the middle?
Dumb question I know, but the -1/8" is throwing me off. I always thought that 1/8" past center would be a bow that is 1/8" wider than center cut, but to my mind that would be +1/8".
Somebody set me straight.
If you were to mark the middle of the limbs and then look at where the string hits the limbs the string would be 1/8" to the right of the middle of the limb(if it is a RH'd bow). So cut to center or "0" would mean the string and the middle of the limbs would line up perfectly.
When I bought my Morrison Shawnee from Bob Morrison, he told me it was cut 3/16" past center. FYI, Steve
What about Bamabows...any info on how they are cut?
Toelke Super D cut to center. When I get home I'll check my recurves. Great topic some good info here.
Perhaps this will help with the plus minus issues.
Here is some more help. I just took this from Stu's directions for the DSC. Bit fuzzy due to photo limits
(http://i261.photobucket.com/albums/ii45/heilakka/strikeplate.jpg)
Perfect. There is a lot of info. in Stu's calculator directions that I think most don't take the time to read.
Acadian Woods Custom Classic recurve -1/8
Robertson Purist longbow +1/16
Toelke 2pc recurve -1/16
If you are having a problem measuring your bow there is a great drawing in the "Instruction" section of the calculator, using a piece of string taped to your bow then aligning your bow string and the taped string to give you your measurement.
Has anyone measured one of the old Bear Kodiaks....say a 59 or 60? Just curious what you have determined to enter in the calculator.

Glen I am not going to include since you have custom.. I consider that a user request.

Good work guys. A good resource for the bowhunting community!
Habu Vyperkahn - (-1/8")
Tall Tines - (~-1/8")
thanks they are on the list.
All my bows are cut 3/16
I've found at least one of my custom order bows cut a little differently than some others have posted. I'd suggest measuring centercut yourself if you are going to use the calculator for a starting point; especially custom built non-CNC cut risers. In my opinion, there simply is no substitute for getting your hands on a set of test arrows of various spines and simply picking the one that shoots best for your particular bow and shooting style. YMMV.
Thank you Michael of Legend Bows. I have included yours in the list.
Very good suggestion Dan. Its the way I have done it. The list is a resource not an absolute.
All of mine are -3/16"
Tim I have all your bows at -3/16. But I also have a line for your bows that says you will do different on customer request.
HI this is Nate from Bamabows. I cut my bows + 1/8 to + 3/16 and like the one guy said it's best to check because it's not hard to loose or gain a `1/16
Thank you Nat I have added your bows along with your great advice
"it's best to check because it's not hard to loose or gain a `1/16"
here is the new list with bamabows included
Bowcentercuts in PDF. You should be able to just download, save on your computer or open with Adobe Reader (http://www.heilakka.com/bowcentercuts.xlsx.pdf)
Just a reminder to all who use this info., this is without the strike plate that the bowyer or you put on your bow. I think some folks forget this important fact.
Thanks Les and Stu and all the bowyers that helped put this together!
My Martin Savannah and Horne's Brush Bow look more like 1/8 than 0 to me.
The DSC needs to be calibrated w a known good setup to determine the Personal Form Factor (PFF) before best use too. RTFM?
I have good setups (bare shaft/paper tested) that are not even close according to the DSC unless I adjust w a PFF.
Tomahawk original and diamond series are cut to + 1/16". The new 3 piece legacy series is cut to - 1/8". Black Widow's Pl series is cut to center.
Thx so much folks!!This post is enlightening!
I have not contacted the makers to ask if this info is accurate for all their bows, but mine are as follows:
Mohawk Sparrow Hawk 1-piece +3/16
Java Man Elk Heart 2-piece 0
Per Wes Wallace, the Royal LB is cut to center.
Tall Tines recurve is 1/8 past center.
From 3/16 to 3/8.
Mine is cut on the side :dunno:
it was a bandsaw
The current bloodiest bow in the fleet has no cut at all. My next will sort of be the same.
Just asked Brandon a few days ago about my RoseOak Creations "Ace" recurve and he responded they are cut "To center"!
How do these numbers reflect on the spine calculator. Never used it I have just been very close on my setups and then tweaked it. Just curious because I would like to try it. My Robertson Stykbow is cut 1/8 past center.
If you go to the 3 river calculator the specs on the bow side will ask for that measure. You need to put in +.125 when using the generic R/D bow. It will reduce the required spine. Now, if your release is strong, through trial and error with known spined arrows you will find your personal quotient number at the bottom. Mine is 9 to 11 depending on the bow. Also, a Robertson fires a fairly hard arrow, perhaps more than the generic catagory, that will up the number as well. Personally, I am guessing that variables with full length carbon or for that matter full length wood arrows can toss much of the chart data away. For standard length wood and aluminum arrows, one inch or less past the back of the bow bop, if I can watch the person shoot and get an idea how hard the bow shoots and the individuals release is, I find the chart is very accurate.
