Now that I am down south, Is it imperative to have the extreme heavy weight heads for pig hunting? Or can a usual 135gr head with well aimed shot placement be sufficient to take them.?
And I know the shot placement pics are available,but is it the same as gutten/processing a deer. Any help would be great.Thanks Tim

You can shoot what ever head you wanna shoot. Just make sure you got a good heavy broadhead/arrow combination.

I've punched straight through a javelina with a 125 snuffer (which wasn't as sharp as it could be) on a 2113 from my 55# Hunter. The arrow stuck about 3" in the dirt behind him. Granted, it would have scored a 10 on a 3D target, so the shot was perfect, but the arrow didn't seem to slow all that much.

#1 tuned set up #2 sharp, if you have those go getem.
Word of caution, you will get hooked on chasing hogs, i think they were put on this earth to bow hunt with trad gear.
Tip: you will not fool there nose.

I x2 with pops.Living in Tx hog hunting is 2nd only to deer hunting.Thats what we do in the south (hog hunt).A sharp COC head is a must have,heavy arrows work best.Remember that the bigger the hog the harder they are to bring down.

A 125gr head works fine. But I have noticed a big increase in penetration going to EFOC arrows. I saw in the Ashby reports how this can increase penetration by 40%.

160 gn STOS works great for me.

For me its easier to just shoot everything with the same set up. I shoot tapered Ash with 160gr Journeyman or Snuffers with a finished weight of aound 750gr (+-) 5 grains.
Haven't found anything it won't punch through.
Whatever you hunt deer with will work on pigs. Like deer, placement is the key.

I think you have posted that you shoot a 70# hh longbow at a 30+ inch draw length. I would think that a snuffer would punch through everything but the thickest shield, even with a light arrow. I would guess that your arrows will be over 600 grains no matter what head you use. Just go kill something.

About 6 yrs. ago I took 13 Hogs from one piece of property in a month shooting 62lbs. at 30" with 2216 alum. and 125 gr. stinger heads. Everyone one was a total pass thru. Hogs ranged in size from 70lbs. to 200lbs..

I guess that If I was passing through everything and sticking my arrows in the dirt, I would opt for a bigger broadhead. I can't go bigger than I have now, but that is what I did when the animals kept leaving my arrows behind. There is also very little tests like a mature boar. It is like shooting through a pallet. Some areas softer than other but not by much. Having said that, I choose to use big (1.5") cut 3 blades. I personally have no problem making two holes with them and it makes for massive blood trails.
What is not said enough about hogs (same as bears) is that they are not that tough to kill, just can be a problem getting a good blood trail.

If you shoot a hog in the same place you would a deer that piggy will be back eating your corn the next night.. the kill zone on a pig is forward and lower than a deer..
The bigger the head the bigger the cut... use the largest head you can get a pass through with.. A heavy arrow penetrates better than a light one.. a pass through will give you a better blood trail…

Hogs are fun & don't require anything extraordinary other than heavier arrows IMO. Like 2-blades also for penetration. Used Bear 125gr decades but now Ace 160gr. Call RC (Hog Dr. Death) for firsthand hog advice.
