Title: Low budget side quiver.....or the trash project -Updated
Post by: saumensch on June 15, 2011, 01:45:00 PM
Ive wanted to build a new side quiver for some time now. So i took a closer look at the things in the corner where i put all useless and broken things that might be useful someday and the left overs from former projects. Ok, to be honest i had to buy some screws      ;)

I dont know how this will end up, so wish me luck!

At first ive cut two broken food containers to shape:

Then i took a piece of leftover aluminiumsection and marked my desired length (just below the fletching):

Two aluminiumsections cut to length and all holes drilled:

First trial assembly:

Looking quite like i wanted it so far. Now ill go and sew till my fingers bleed      :D

To be continued soon      :coffee:

No kidding!!! You shoulda waited until your fingers were already scabbed up before you started this one, lol. Now I have 2 pieces of aluminum and some food containers sitting on the table and am stuck here, lol. Can't wait to see the finished product. Mike

So, after dinner and some other stuff to do i have finally covered up the crossbars and assembled the whole thing for good. I used pieces of an old army wool blanket sewen with B50 string.

Tomorrow ill try to put the wool on the containers. And theres only the straps and the fletch cover left...

Ok, i got to apologise, i was so preoccupied with sewing and finishing the quiver i forgot to take pictures and post them.

Anyway heres the way it looks now, everything dressed up and straps attached:

front:

back:

how to wear at my side:

and how to wear on the back:

In the pic there are about 8 arrows in it and theres still plenty of room left, just how i wanted it. The upper cross bar rests nice and easy aainst the body in either position and the arrows dont rub on the clothes. Im truly happy how this came out.

Now theres only a fletchcover left to do....

Thanks for looking
Axel

That looks really nice, and like it was fun to make.  Congrats on a great, functional idea.  I like to go out in the field with things I've made with my own hands.

Hmmm, how about some arrow clips in the top ring to keep em from rattling around?  Not finding fault, just wonder what you think of the idea with the project at hand in front of you?

Ive thought about that, too. But it would only make putting the arrows back harder. They dont rattle at all becuase the first few milimeters of fletching touch the wool and the feathers hook up like barbs on the wool.

and heres a little extrapic...

i can wear that quiver on my ugly mug....especially if its 1 in the morning and the relief that the damned sewing is finished lightens up the head and makes for a funny mood
