Here a while back I had posted and explained that my good buddy Kirk Barnard aka "Possum Head" had come up with an idea's for some cheap inexpensive targets made of scrape carpet. Well, since then me and him have continued to expand on that idea and our home ranges, and I thought i'd show you in a pictorial my current progress. I now have two separate courses the "Red" stakes and the "Orange" each has 15 targets and both are scatter over my approximately 1.5 acre plot of mostly bug infested snake crawling swampland. Each have a good selection of deer, turkey, and hogs and a few different species to keep it interesting. So with that introduction I will show you a view from the stakes and then a close up of the target, enjoy.

That's really neat.
Having 15 targets on 1.5 acres is an efficient use of space!

I'm in Biloxi a good bit for drill and a friend of mine is moving from here down to Gulfport. We may have to all get together and shoot sometime.
Looks like a lot of fun to be had there! Congrats on a fine setup. Can't help you with Photobucket as that site is like a shot in the dark sometimes!

Well guys that is the total of the 30 targets, hope you liked them! Very easy to make and they hold good for the 45#-60# bows we shoot.
HA HA! thats very creative... I wish I had a big back yard to do stuff like that in..
Thanks Matty, although my Bobcats look more like Bob the Cat lol!
Very creative,I like it,looks like a blast to shoot.
Looks like fun, the photos are rotated correctly for my by the way
That is great, looks like a lot of fun.
Ben
Here are also a few picture of a "blind bale" target butt I built for form practise (which I need) and longe range shooting. The distance is spaced out over 60 yards in 15, 20, 30, 40, 50 and 60 yard increments and marked.

As you can see a very simple design, made from 2 4x4 treated post, 2 treated 2x4, scrape carpet found in a new subdivision or the local dump, relatives etc...8 carraige bolts, and 8 fender wasers and wingnuts. 6 layers stops my 55# Centaur as long as you don't continue to shoot the same hole/spot. The face of the target is 5'x 5'.
very ingenious. Thats using what you you have to get the job done....and have a lot of fun doing it.
Wish I had the room to do the same thing.
Thanks guys, The cost for the actual making of the targets is really only in the amount of spray paint and material used for the heads and tails. All of the carpet was scrapes either given to me or located at new subdivisions or the local dump. If you have the room and a little "sweat equality" ok it was alot of "sweat" down here in our humidity  you can make a good practise range for little money..less than the cost of 1 or at the most 2 actual 3D targets.
looks great.
Looks good, man. I'll be sure to keep an eye out for your "we're getting together" post. As long as the boss doesn't have anything planned, I'd love to drive on down.
Rusty
That is sweet as heck! I have plenty of room around here and next door at my ol' man's place...my 2 young boys would really get a kick out of something like this...
I love the skeleton deer and the beaver is always a good thing :saywhat:
Lee, ahmm that aint no beaver! You northern boys don't know a squirrel when you see one :saywhat: lol
LOL, wondered what a beaver was doing so high up in a tree :biglaugh:
Great job! Southern ingenuity at its finest!
Maybe it aint no beaver, pal but ifin it was perhaps I might connect at the next event! Great job and I must say your new turkey and bear are cool.I'll knock heads with the boyz and get wicha on a time.Oh yaeh the pronghorn is hapnin as well.
Great job on your range John, love the "spooky deer " and "grinning boar". Looking forward to getting together with you guys. Shane
Oh, and great idea on the blank bale.
Shane and Kirk let me know when's a good time and i'll try and get it set up. Look like we may have a few more to join us Rustsy and Jeremy if possible, also a good friend of mine from Hurley Warren Duncan came over last Saturday and seen the range and wanted to know when I was shooting again? I told him that evening and he was welcome and I had an extra bow he could shoot. He made the trip again that evening and had so much fun he left talking to himself "How can I convince my wife I need a longbow?" He had never shot traditional before! TRAD gets in you!
Great looking target range! I really like the idea of using carpet on your "animals". I especially liked the deer target with the antlers and skull. I hope he wasn't tied up there when he was alive....hee, hee.

Cool range. Good thinking on all the targets. Good ol country boy ingenuity,
Well There You Go!! :goldtooth:
I need to know who the artist was on all these? He needs to find another job!
(pulling your leg of course)
Fantastic range and targets! Hours of fun waiting to be had there
Nice set up for sure. Looks like a fun course.
Deno
Hey guys thanks!
Yeah Daniel I thought you might like to see another option that's out there if you don't mine putting some sweat equity into it.
Not hard at all and like I said the target have held up good.
Although I need to redo a few of the cutouts and maybe rearrange the course now after 5.5 years.
That is the most judicious use of 1.5 acres I've ever seen. I'd shoot it. Looks like a hoot.
I had a few shoots here at the house and at the time the two 15 target courses gave an option for 2 different groups to shoot safely.
Very cool  :clapper: :archer2:
