I've never actually bought a used bow before but 5 or 6 months ago I found this Hollenbeck at Black Dog Outfitters in Sand Lake Michigan (now in Rockford, MI) and fell in love with it. Pawed it up every single time I stopped in as a matter of fact!
I recently moved and decided to pop in yesterday as their new location is now only 3 miles away from my house. It was still there and after an hour of shooting it, I HAD to have it and picked it up for practically nothing.
I'm a straight limbed longbow kind of guy but something drew me to it. The other oddity is that I prefer a 66" bow due to my 30+" draw and this is only a 60". Doesn't seem to pinch for me at all. It's an absolute naildriver at 56# and smokes a wood or 2018.
I couldn't be happier with it. Roger Hollenbeck really knew how to build a bow. It's a shame he isn't making them anymore. I wish I knew the story behind it!

Great looking bow, congrats!
I bet she´s a shooter.
Have fun!
Nick, Congradulations! If that bow shoots half as good as it looks you should be one happy camper. I am quite surprised that it did not get sold while you were workin up to it. Good pics...
VERY NICE!! Congrats!! :clapper: :clapper: :archer2:
Not a long bow guy but that is pretty sharp!!
Sweeet... she's a looker for sure.
 I would have bought it too! Great looking bow!
Great looking design.I like the riser geometry.
Where is Roger Hollenbeck from? Any body know?
Ron
Congrats, I really like the looks of that riser! :clapper:
Roger custom built me a longbow in 1997 and I sold it through the classifieds here 3 months ago as the draw weight got to be too much. If it hadn't, I never would have parted with it as it was a top notch shooter and looker....but yours looks even better...guess I don't need to convince you to hang on to it!
Had one when I was just starting out. It was a well made bow, and I liked everything about it except that it was around twelve pounds too heavy for me. If I still had it, it would only be about five pounds too heavy.
Wow, is that a fantastic looking bow...
Very Nice...
Its 56lbs and I usually don not like a boe that heavy, man that thing is a sweet shooter does not feel like it is 56lbs. real cool handle on this bow, great purchase!
Thanks guys! I'm liking it for sure. Definitely a departure for me but I think it's going to be a great hunting bow. I can't believe no one scooped it up. Tom at BDO figures it is because of the poundage. He said 56# seems to be either a bit too light or a bit too heavy.
Oh well. I got an excellent bow as a result!
I would also like to know more about Roger. I did a search for him and found very little other than that he was a fine furniture maker and went back to doing so.
That is the last thing I read. Any further information would be much appreciated!!!!
Yeah. Real nice bow!
real good looking bow, great lines!
If I'm not mistaken, Hollenbeck is from the Kansas City area!!??
Not sure...I found another forum that listed a gentleman who said he is his neighbor. I may try to get into touch with that guy via PM. I'd like to find out more about the bow...when it was made, what woods, etc.
Beauty of a bow Nick! Congrats on a nice score.

Nice bow Nick!! You need to get her down to GVSG on Friday. Would love to see that bow in person. rat' :archer2:
Good looking bow!
Nice looking bow for sure!! Good for you.
Beautiful bow! I picked up a Hollenbeck 50's style recurve at ETAR a couple years ago and it quickly became a favorite. Mine is 56" 55# @ 27", all Bacote under clear glass. I believe made in 2005. With a skinny FF string it positively screams. Good luck with yours.
Roger is doing well and I believe he is in IT now for some company. I think I have his number buried somewhere ...
I don't even shoot longbows, but think I would buy that one just to look at.
