(Sorry Ben, I had to steal your line)
***Anyone else, please feel free to post up pics of your Thundersticks. I like to see all the different combos. I need some help, and I'd like to see some options before I order a MOAB.
Thunderstick on the list.
I should have a new one very soon, I know how you feel.
Status: Out for Delivery
Well?
Sorry, I was busy shooting it. Here are some pics. These bows are awesome. I put a new string on it after shooting it for awhile and will tune some arrows to it when I get a chance. Man it shoots quick. I think this will be my deer bow this fall depending how well I can shoot the heavier weight. It wasn't bad at all though. It actually feels lighter than my TSIII which is 4#'s lighter.
Thunderstick Mag, 58", 60#@28.

Congrats nice looking bow. Those Thundersticks wont let you down. :archer:
They are great bows, but my problem right now is I keep spending the money I'm saving up for a new MOAB. I've bought two Mags in the last two months. Both were too good of a deal to pass up.
Anyone else, feel free to post up pics of your Thundersticks. I like to see all the different combos. Plus it will help me decide when I order a MOAB.
I've got an interesting tidbit I found while working with my moab. Bought a 54# moab here on TG a while back while I was waiting for a custom to come in, I got pretty comfortable with the moab.Well the custum comes in and I start working with it. It is 56# 3pc. First I notice that the shafts from the moab are too lite ,spine, for the new bow, should have been close though. I set up new shafts and get pretty close tuning for the new bow.Shooting the two next to each other I'm a little confused because the moab seems faster than the new bow.I set up my crony and start to test. First I check the poundage, the moab is 60"-51#'s not 54#'s as marked, the new bow is 58"- 56#'s, both at 28".Now for the fun part, I shoot the 56#bow and shafts first, I get 188-192 on 6-8-shots. Then I shoot the same shafts thru the moab and am surprised to be getting 185-190 with the same # of shots.Hard to believe that 5#'s less, plus smoother, is shooting within a couple of fps.Is the perfomance of the moab better or on par with the mags.Would like to go with a little shorter 58". Needless to say I don't think I will be selling my moab very soon. JimG
One of mine is marked 56@28 and it is 58@28 and i draw 28 1/2 and its smooth as butter. My new MOAB being built i asked for around 60lb at 28.And Beanbag i think no bow that i have ever drawn is as smooth as a MOAB.
Interesting results. I don't have a chrono or a MOAB (yet) so I can't do any in depth testing like that. I'll have to check a couple of the ranges nearby to see if they have a chrono I could test with. How heavy was the arrow you were shooting?
The shafts are 495 500 grs. 10 grs per in the moab 9 grs per in with the three piece. The moab does have a very distinct limb shape which is most likely why it's so fast. When I first saw the shape I thought I had gotten a reject but those little kicks in the limb must act like levers to speed things up. I have not seen the mags, do they have the same profile as the moab? JimG
Here's the unstrung profile of the Mag I just got. I figured out why it felt light. I'm drawing about 3/4" shorter than I normally do, so it was lighter.

Put a new string, silencers, rest and strike plate on it last night, but couldn't get the GT 3555's tuned to to it. Cut a couple of shafts as short as I could and still too weak. I think I'm going to have to go out and find some more 5575's.

Ben, Geze! I thought you had my bow for a minute there! My son sent me a nice Bull snake skin he picked up in CO. Thinking of skinning over mine.Still debating whether or not to.Got me to thinking, I might move up to 56-58#'s maybe a tad more seeing that these things are so smoothe.Have you been able to compare the MOAB to other bows of the same poundage? I know poundage is poundage but getting there is a little different. I gave my son a 60# Martin Savana awhile back,it seemed to stack right at 28"s .A little too stiff for me.Thats why I picked up the Moab to try in a little less #.Matt I'll try to get some picks up when I can.It might have some snake on it though. The Mag's do not look like they have that little kick in out section of the limb? Jim
I think that MOAB are the smothest drawing bow made.Everyone has a diffrent taste. Here is a picture of the limbs MOAB up top Mag bottom (http://i268.photobucket.com/albums/jj10/longbowben/DSC06871.jpg)
you will never regret a MOAB, they are the cadillac of longbows. I have 3 of em, 51#@27, 56@27 and 57@28. The 563er is a takedown I just got. I havent chronoed any of 'em, but they fling an arrow plenty quick. Currently on the takedown bow Im shooting a 635 gr arrow with 225 gr tips, and I can hardly get em out of my beat up old wolf target. actually I busted a brand new arrow today tryin to pull one out.
I cant wait to see what that setup does to an elk.
Im in the process of getting ready to move, and while packing up my shop, I was giving some serious thought to selling off all my recurves. I like 'em, but I never shoot 'em anymore. Some have a bit of sentimental value, but when it comes right down to it, I hate seeing a bow collect dust when someone else could be shootin it. I'll decide in a couple weeks what Im gonna do with them.
Ben, what are you running your brace height at on your MOAB's, and where do you measrue from?
I'm runningthem around 6/34-6 7/8 measuring from the string to the edge of ths shelf(string side). To the bottom of the grip it comes out about 7". Just curious where you find works for you.
Right at 7 to the shelf. But i have shot 6 1/2 to 8 and they shoot the same for me.And i havent chronoed any of mine either dont really care. They are great shooting bows wish i could buy them all.My arrows are right at 610gr.Had Jim on speed dial this morning.
AutumnArcher,
Do you mind posting some pics of your takedown? I think that where I'm leaning right now, but would like to see one.
Here is the best bow I ever owned. Its the only one I shoot and my boys drool over it whenever they come over. Right next to it is the best hat I ever owned. Its a Tilly. What more could you ask for except my great wife.
Most TS bows I have had were not cut far from center. Anything over 50# at my draw length couldn't shoot a 3555 particularly the MOABs. I can't cut them down much less than 30" or go way light on the point without going under 8 gpp so that is a factor. I tried some 500 spine shafts afew weeks ago, and my MOAB was bouncing them off the riser they were so weak.
I shoot 3555 full length 60lbs at 28 1/2 290gr tp fly like a rocket out of my MOAB.
I e-mailed Jim at Thunderstick when I got my MOAB in,he said he cuts them to 1/16th before ctr.I try to keep as close to the window as possible. Got trad lites going out pretty good.JG

RM, here ya go. MOAB 60" 56@27. Bubinga riser, actionboo limbs. The hinge is rock solid and you'd never know it was a takedown when ya shoot it. Ive shot other takedowns that has a vibration or just didnt feel right, not so with this bow. I've named this one "Dark Timber". This one is my elk huntin rig.
Heres a couple pics of my others-
This one here is also a 60", one piece 57@28. this was my first. Ive since added a rattlesnake skinto the limbs. I call this one "Meat". Cuz thats its job.

This one I call "The Mistress". Its a special edition MOAB I bought in a fundraiser auction for Benefit4Kids. Jim makes these for fundraisers and has helped a lot of good organizations in the process. This one is 62" 51@27. And oh baby is it a smooth shooter.

Maybe get some more pics tomorrow with the Moose overlay bow. Going to chase some Squirrels tomorrow...
Autumn, Looks like I'm going to be putting on some skins, your moab is pretty nice. I have never seen or shot a bow with a hinge, do you feel the hinge while shooting? Is there any lateral movement? I picked up a bevel lock to put in mine but not sure if I want to cut a perfectly good bow! Not sure if the grip is on the small side for it also. Might give Jim a call to see if it could be retrofit.Thks Jim G
I had a hinge TD MOAB and the hinge was put in under the overlay and grip. I didn't notice it at all. I guess if you squeezed the grip hard you could fell the hinge joint in one small area. Wish I still had that bow, but it was a little too heavy for me.
The hinge is rock solid, there is no movement at all. The only difference is like xtrema312 said, you can feel a little notch where it is cut in. Actually, I like that, the notch lies under the tip of my ring finger on the grip, and I use it as a hand locator so I always have the hand in the exact same position.
I did the snakeskin myself, it was very easy to do as long as you plan each step in advance, and take your time. It came out far better than I would have imagined, and really dressed the bow up nicely. The worst part of the process was taking a piece of sandpaper to my bow, that caused a bit of anxiety, but the end result was worth it.
You guys got me drooling on the keyboard now. What woods are in that takedown AA? I remember seeing pics of the one with the arrow inlay. That one is a beauty for sure.
Bowhunter4life, I really like the one with the antler overlays. Do you remember what wood combos all of those are? I really like the one in the first pic that's the third one down. I like them all, but that one sticks out to me.
I'm gonna have to call Jim and get on the list.
AA, I just skinned one of my Mags and am in the process of coating with tru oil. What finish did you use over the skins on yours?
I used tru oil as well. the takedown is bubinga, with the stripe being ebony I believe. It also has antler overlays on the tips.
I have been wanting a MOAB for a while now. Great looking bows and from what I have read, they perform too.

I bought a 58" T Mag 49# @ 28" for my son a couple of months ago. He loves it! So do I! Needless to say...now I gotta get one for myself! IMHO..it is by far the smoothest and quickest long bow I have ever shot! Whisper quiet also! I have shot all kinds of arrows through it and have found that the Easton Legacy 1916's are by far the best arrow for this bow! My buddy Rick Butler says that, "these arrows were made for this bow"! Just a joy to shoot! In fact...I think I'm going to go shoot it right now! :archer2:
