I lost a practice broadhead last winter in the snow (wensel woodsman) and found it this spring after snowmelt and it is heavily rusted. I don't need to get it sharp cuz im just using it for practice, but I would like to get some of the rust off of it. Any suggestions? An old file isnt cutting it and im not about to use a new one on it.
Thanks
Brady

Mineral oil and steel wool, man.

Depending on how thick the rust is, you might try soaking it in vinegar for a few hours. Rinse it, dry it thoroughly, then spray it with wd-40.

Naval Jelly will take rust off too.

Like Bryan said, vinegar will do the trick. I use white vinegar to remove heavy rust from my foothold traps. Just be sure to rinse it well afterwards.

Wire wheel on a bench grinder.

I practice with my broadheads by shooting into a sand bank/pile.  A few practice sessions and the rust will be gone, and your broadhead will be shiney throughout.   :archer2:

Just use an SOS soap pad (steel wool and soap) will remove all rust with very little effort.

Repeated shots into a foam target.

Actually I like Orion's idea. Getting in practice and sandblasting the rust away.

				+1 on Orions idea!

Just use one of those "toothbrush" type wire brushes.
Doesn't 3 Rivers have a rust protection progam?  :D

				What Bud B. said.

shoot it into a sand pile, a few time, and it will be nice and shiney.

Should've read the entire post before I spouted off,Orion had it first, great minds think alike.

				Thanks guys!

I have some Razorheads that i need to clean up, im going to try vinegar on a few tonight  :)

Use a pencil eraser on small spots after vinegar

Dremel tool and a wire wheel, then 440 Cold Blue and a goow wipedown with B-C Sheath.
Or shoot it into a sand-pile until polished.    ;)

Birchwood Casy's Bluing and rust remover. It is a chemical that will eat your hide off but it gets the job done quickly. Not as much fun as shooting into a sand pile.
