Folks, this is the actual thread from this year's auction, beamed up to powwow for your viewing pleasure, and to recognize the amazing generosity of our Trad Gang membership ...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Last year was so great for us and St. Jude's, Delaney has agreed to offer 4 poundcakes and I will ship to the highest bidder or group of bidders. Last year the bidding got so high we were compelled to bump this to 12 poundcakes. I'm very proud of Delaney for cooking all 12 and want to thank Biggie again for re-donating 3 of his 4 that Delaney was able to deliver to the local Ronald McDonald House.
Here's Delaney with her first deer on youth day this year. She is wearing her St. Jude's inspired Tippit knife and the mojo was definitely with us on her first deer hunt for sure!
And this is what you're bidding on.
(http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j112/Dutch4duck/IMG_0066.jpg)
I don't know who will end up with the last bid, but I've at least got the first!
$100.00
After some earlier log in confusion..... I do know who will have the last bid.
And who will be eating the pound cake. :bigsmyl:
$150
Probably be Biggie... but I'll bid 200.00
Ok. I'm confused. Is this a one on one or are y'all gonna get 35 people and gang up on us again??
Looks like every man for himself.
For now.... :goldtooth:
35? Where did you get that number? There are like 30000 registered users to draw on here and they all want to see you lose this auction! :readit:
That's about all y'all could motivate last year.
And they ALL don't really want to see us lose. Some of them secretly enjoy watching y'all lose year after year after year.
So does this mean the phantom bidding is about to begin?
Watching you guys bicker back and forth is the part I enjoy.
Spies and traitors is all they are!!!!!!!!!!!!!
So what did you do with the biggster Mikey, got him hiding somewhere?
I honestly have not seen or heard from Biggie. I think Batman and Joebuck have kidnapped him or have some old Lowcountry woman workin roots on him!!! :scared:
I spilled my beer on that.
:laughing:
Joebuck might have thought him a big ol tom turkey and slid an arrow through his ribs.
Just a brief bit of history for those who may not know about the Pound Cake War (and the Cookie Wars that preceded it)
I don't recall the exact year, but at some point in the history of the St. Jude auction the bidding for some chocolate chip cookies by Miss Kim Coots got heated up. Seems everyone wanted a bite of those cookies, so a small group of us came up with a plan.
We formed a little "corporation" and called it MK, LLC. Anyone who bid $50 received a "share" in the corporation entitling them to 1 cookie from the batch. The company was highly successful, and cookies were enjoyed by all.
The following year, we were challenged by an upstart group of competitors for the rights to the cookies. They called themselves 1K, LLC, and to purchase a share in their corporation required an initial investment of $1,000.
So it became the battle of the big guys versus the little guys. We have fought valiantly each year since. Last year the focus shifted to Delaney's pound cake. Bidding was fierce, but in the end we came up just a hairs breath short of taking the cake. A last second bid that would have put us over the top failed to clear the magic cutoff time.
In the end, last year the winning bidders from 1K LLC put up a total of $4,200 to claim their prize. Many of the MK, LLC shareholders honored their bids even though we lost the battle at the end. Our shareholders paid in a total of $3,700 in the losing effort.
So the combined bids last year for a slice of precious pound cake generated a total of nearly $8,000 that went directly to St. Jude.
Who knows where this years bidding will take us? Is it going to be pound cake again? Or will it be some other delectable treat? Will this be the year that David slays Goliath?
It's kind of like when WalMart comes to town and puts all the little guys on Main St. out of business. Wouldn't you just once like to see the little guy come out on top?
Membership in MK, LLC is open to anyone. All you need to do is join in the fun.
Stay tuned here to see what develops.....
Y'all go play somewhere else then.... We'll eat the Charleston Pound Cake....
I don't know Les... You better watch out. The way Whipped counted bids last year you are up to $450 already. Shoot. You are halfway to the 1K bid already!!! Come on over to the winning side!
Brings back some incredible memories of laughin so hard, my face hurt!
Here we go again... :)
That does it. Game on! Those pictures are irresistible - We want pound cake!
I'll put my bid in as a part of the MK, LLC group.
Anybody that wants to join in the fray is welcome on our team. I've been in meetings with the production department, and here is what we came up with.
For every $100 share of MK, LLC you purchase you will receive one slice of Delaney's delectable pound cake. Of course that means we will need to collectively outbid the evil 1K big boys, but I really think this is the year!
So who else in in with me? Come on over Les, your $250 bid will get you 2 1/2 slices. I'll bet Delaney would even round it up for you and make it three! Those guys are paying $1,000 for a whole cake, so that's a good deal.
Any other MK shareholders out there??
Les, you had better get a definition of exactly how thick those slices would be.
Go pull some teeth Mikey. We got work to do here.
I'm with ya Joe.
One share please: $100.00
In
My dryer, truck and dishwasher all broke this week... Dropped $2,000 getting it all fixed or replaced. For obvious reasons I can't give what I wanted during the auction this year. :mad:
If the "little guys" will allow me to contribute, I would like to kick in $25 for the MK,LLC. Even if it is just a little, I had to support any organization that has an Ohio marine in the fight! :thumbsup:
No cake required for me, just whip the Sunny Hill boys into surrender.....
Throw me in fer a slice.
$100
If you'll look closely at the picture of the kids allegedly eating the pound cake from last year you will notice something peculiar. Not one of them actually has their tongue or teeth on a piece of cake! The next picture was actually taken BEFORE the first shot, and that is why they are smiling.
I have it on good authority that that picture was taken in an effort to elicit sympathy from potential bidders this year. But in reality Sunny Boy only allowed them to put a piece close to their mouth and then they had to put it back on the plate. My source says that he then proceeded to eat the pound cake all by himself. That's evil!!
Come on in with MK, LLC, where we promise to share the cake equally among us all!
That was funny Whipped........
Now run along like a good boy and buy some cookies you can afford.
Good observation Joe.
They sure are sneeeeeeeeeeeeky big fellows aren't they.
I do believe,1,2,3, Ok. I think we have already come up with $775.00 for the good guys and a big fat $0 for the other guys. Looks like they are falling behind,again.
oops-That would be $825.00 Forgot Les had $250.00 instead of $200.00. Joe,you better count since your the banker. Dont let us gyrenes do it.
Actually, we don't yet have Les in the fold. He was bidding on his own before MM got started. But we sure do need him! How about it Les? Are you in with us?
See Les!!!!!!!!! I told you!!!!!!!
You have already bid $450!!!!!!!
QuoteOriginally posted by leatherneck:
Smartest thing you have said this entire thread!!!!
I sure hope Les will come back so we can add him in to the fold. McDave too. We are going to need all the help we can get. We have seen from past years how these fellows just lay in the weeds until we get some bids up and then they jump over the top. The only way to get them to let the moths out of their wallets is to put the pressure on them.
Here's how I see it so far:
Whip, Leatherneck, Gregg Dudley, Robtattoo, and buckeye_hunter are committed to MK, LLC for a total of $425. That's the standing high bid at the moment.
QuoteOriginally posted by sunny hill archer:
Les, you had better get a definition of exactly how thick those slices would be.
That is an excellent point Mikey. Here's the math. MK, LLC will guarantee that each slice is at least 1/6th of an entire pound cake.
If each cake weighs one pound (that would only make sense, right?) that is 2.67 ounces per slice. At $100 per share that is only $37.45 per ounce. Pound cake is like gold that you can eat, right? Have you seen the price of gold lately?
The 1K crew is looking at an entire cake for a $1,000 bid. That works out to $62.50 per ounce!
It is easy to see that MK is the affordable company for the common man. Come on in and join the fun!
QuoteOriginally posted by Whip:
Dude you obviously have no clue about Charleston Pound Cake!!!!! I don't know about the ones y'all eat up there but down here a good one weighs at least 3 pounds.
I just noticed Sunny Hill has made a grand total of 668 posts. I'd bet 608 of'm have been in the Auction Forums!
Thanks for more fun again this year. Hate that some of the 1K LLC crowd seems to be MIA. Not sure that will be much of a problem for Sunny, though. He came and picked up one of his cakes from Litte D, looked her right in her 9 year old blue eyes and declared he would get the cake this year too. He had a resolve that would've called Wyatt Earp's bluff. Strong as barrel proof whiskey I tell ya. I hope the Whipster can get the posse in gear. Should be another epic showdown. The production and logistics team continues the prep for big last minute orders!
Oh, and Leatherneck.....
the deer pic was just for you. You had more to do with that than you know, brother. :thumbsup:
I was going to PM you about that. She looks great in that pic!!! Congrats!!!!!!!!
We came close last year. I'm in for $100.00. But man, that dentist scares me! :bigsmyl:
Won't be able to compete by myself with these groups and I can't afford the 1k club sooooo guess my bid of 250.00 goes to MK, LLC.
Come on Michael you need to place a bid to create some incentive.
Count me in MK,LLC for $100.
Don't be touchin' our pound cake! Ya hear?
Glad to have ya Les. Welcome back ronp.
Mike, I hope all those southern boys teeth rot out from the poundcake they didn't share last year.
And Ron, John, and stiks :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:
I've been out of banking for a couple years now, so my math might be rusty. But I'm coming up with a grand total of $975 for MK right now. Pretty good start, and plenty of time to keep it growing!
Whip we better get this up to a grand! put me in for another 25.00
I'm Still stalking a few other items
Stiks
Thanks Stiks!! :notworthy:
Even though we have said that it takes a $100 bid to get a slice of cake those $25 bids really do help out. When it comes down to the final tally you can bet that every last one of them will be needed!!
Whip I just want in for braggin rights :readit: LOL
The other stuff I'm stalking may get away and I may end up back for another share or five :campfire:
Either way we are Taking the cake!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've been workin' on my Southern Connections now that I'm in the same state as that Low Country Seaside Dentist. This may come down to South Carolina braggin' rights so as VP of Consumption I'm anting up my $100 share...Doc
That pic was for you sunny. My kids swore to disown me if I actually posted it. They said I look like an inmate.Go figure. "Forest" will have something to say to you if you get his poundcake. Anything for the kids!!!!!!
Now, the way I see it. Tippits share just took us to $1100.00. Hmmmm...........
I dont know guys,I think the 1K guys might be a little scared. Unless they are going against there own rule and gonna do a little sniping. :saywhat:
Rizzy. You do look like an inmate.... Or a really bad Deliverance wannabe. I'm not sure which.
So far I have not heard from the old bunch... But I have been contacted by some new blood.
So. I'm in for my share at 1k and our first new member who will remain anonymous is in for a share at 1k.
That's 2 thousand total for all you prison gaurds and assorted other such genius types.
You have the lead, but it's going to take more than that to keep it. I'm thinking you'll be dialing for more dollars before long...
Yap,Yap,Yap. Since biggie and the guys turned yellow you have resorted to anonymous donations. That pond will dry up soon. Our gang is just off taking care of some of the other items before they make a mad dash. The games have not begun just yet.
Doc,why do you think I took the pic at night!!!lol Didn't want to scare the neighbors.
I think Forest was just waiting for me to drop that cake.
Good to see our VP of Consumption back to roust the troops.
As a multi-shareholder from a previous battle and the lucky recipient of a grand Tippit knife thanks to Lil' D picking my name out of a basket, I am renewing my status as a bonafide shareholder.......$100 for MK, LLC.
Hey Whip ... please add me to the share list for $100 ...
While Sunnyhill is tough and a fierce competitor I know for a fact he can be taken.
Dakota and Buddy my two canine shareholders from last year are in counting their piggy bank ... I have no doubt they will be back again this year too. :jumper: :jumper:
Y'all are sooooooo toast!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sure, we want pound cake, and this could very well be our year. We're ahead of the pace from prior years, and there is much more to come.
Of course, the number one goal remains the same - to part 1K members with as many K's as we can squeeze out of them! The real winners of these annual bickering matches are in Memphis!
So when I woke Delaney up this morning, I let her know that Mo was in the house and it would likely be a big day. "Doc Tippit!" she responded. She thinks Tippit blades on pink lanyards make magic happen and sure enough, what a day it has been.
Lil D immediately cancelled her dangerous game hunt in Africa she was supposed to fly out for on Friday to begin production capacity planning asap. She called an emergency board meeting today to review the current pound cake demand data and approved an expansion to 8 cakes for St. Jude's production. I told her I would inform the auction market of her decision and keep her apprised of any demand fluctuations over the coming days.
Sure glad to have you here Stiks. And it was sure great to meet you in TN.
Here's the deal though - nobody needs to ask to join this team. It's open to anyone that wants to join the fray! No invitations or individual recruitment is done. Just an open invitation to everyone.
Ding-Ding...round 4?
So Lil D held her board meeting after swim practice today. I gave her the latest market report to include a "Biggie is now on the scene" and discussed some private PMs we received that were very very special. We are now in for 12 cakes. Either way this one goes, there are several fine people that will be eating St. Jude inspired pound cakes.
I've gotten a few questions about the deer pics so I'll share a bit of the story....
Last year, this auction changed the lives of me and Delaney. We have a different and better relationship in many ways because of that experience. Delaney and I made a lot of friends from that experience. Leatherneck actually invited Delaney and I to come up to his place for a youth day deer hunt. When I told Delaney about the offer, she said she wanted to go. Up to that point, she had never shot a rifle nor killed anything. She'd hunted with me a little and cleaned some birds and what not but never had been "the hunter." That invite started a lot of conversation, questions and soul searching and ultimately she decided she wasn't prepared to "kill" a deer yet and I let Leatherneck know we would regretfully have to decline. The questions about hunting didn't stop and she couldn't let it go. We made cakes and she got the amazing Tippit knife that symbolized the praise and appreciation so many of you offered her last year. Well, in December, my best buddy said he wanted to take his girls on a deer hunt on youth day and asked if I'd like to take Delaney. She was hesitant, but since her buddies were going, she said yes. We went out the weekend before and had them shoot on the range and we prepared stands and ground blinds. Delaney shot well but I was fully prepared and comfortable with her not wanting to shoot at the moment of truth. She hung her St. Jude Tippit knife around her neck and we climbed the tree. The small four walked out with about 30 minutes of light left at 50 yards and I asked Delaney if she wanted to shoot. YES! she whispered loudly. She made a great shot and was immediately excited with her deer. It worked out perfectly for a nine year old's first big game harvest. We were quite excited when we caught up with the other girls and quickly began telling our story. Once done, my buddy's Dad who had been in a ground blind with one of the girls stutter'd, Little Roey shot a biiiig deer. He was still shaking! The big deer in the pic is Delaney's friend's first deer as well. It was a magical evening and the best first hunting experiece you could hope for a kid. Delaney's little mind had one heck of a journey to make to get right with the idea of being a hunter. You all started her on that journey here last year and I'm very thankful for that. Side note....Roey's Grandfather wrote an article for Sporting Classics a couple of months back so you can see her with the big deer there as well.
Best, Julian
I heard that story in person....
Then, as now all I could think was.... Cool just freakin cool.
We hold it in our hands every day. The ability to change lives. Often we take it for granted. I know I do.Even with my own kids. Please bid what you can. They need it.
Y'all still won't get the cakes.
But you can dream.......
No doubt about it, gotta agree with Michael on the Freakin Cool!!
I'm sure not giving up on eating pound cake yet Michael even if I have to beg your generosity again :bigsmyl: Either way it's some freakin good pound cake!
Doug, this knife was on that hunt as well.
Cool? I can't count the ways......
(http://i78.photobucket.com/albums/j112/Dutch4duck/Mikeysknife1.jpg)
It blows me away to think of the impact this annual squabble fest can have on the lives of others. We do it all in fun, but look at those results! A new young hunter in the fold. A deeper bond between a father and daughter. Friendships made that weren't therefore before. This is special stuff!
And that is just the start of it. Just think of the impact on the lives of the kids and families at St. Jude. Freaking cool is right!
The pound cake has never really mattered. But even so, we're going to take it anyway! :goldtooth:
Thanks for the story Julian!
Julian, you let out me and Little D's secret. I'm honored to have had a small part in it. That picture and smile says alot. We will get Little D on one of these big Ohio whitetails one day.
"Freaking Cool" sounds like the new poundcake thread saying.
Michael said it best, give what you can. Nobody expects anybody to go beyond their means. A little helps just as much as alot.
But we will prevail!!!!!!!! Little D, I'll shoot you my address so you can get my slice,or two,or three, all labeled up and ready to ship.
BTW- My daughter shot a 4-pointer this year too. Hmmmmmm.......girl power maybe.
Great story Julian ... your Little D is something special thats for sure :thumbsup:
Dakota and Buddy are almost done counting their pennies and ready to turn in their bids. They love pound cake :jumper:
Julian,
When you sent me that picture of Lil D with her first deer and that Tippit knife, I felt like a proud Grandpa! I'm proud of everyone on this forum too.
This is bringing tears to my eyes knowing that Michael will be left out in the cold with no cake. I know MK,LLC holds no ill will. So in my capacity as of VP of Consumption, I'll will personally sent out some soda crackers...tippit
Jeff, the nice guy that I am, I'll give mikey a bite of mine.
See sunny,we MK,LLC guys are not all that bad.
Mikey won't be takin a bite off anything you and Forest have to offer.
Start the water boiling :goldtooth:
:laughing: :laughing: :laughing:
Probably will never meet any of the main players in this love match, but I'm filled daily with such great emotions during the annual St. Jude love fest!
Sometimes I am amazed at the funds that flow and know I can't "hang" but we all give what we can.
To see a young lady do what Li'l D has done, and how her Dad's story has stirred such deep emotions within us all, this is the only "Fraternity" of which I'm ever so proud to be associated, even if only as a "kibitzer" and cheerleader in most cases.
Thanks to Julian and the wonderful way in which that family instill values and caring for others.
Thanks to the wild bunch that annually creates such humor and crazy antics as they create such wonderous commitments to such a worthy goal.
I stand in awe of ya'll! :)
Roots are what the Gullah people call voodoo in the Lowcountry. It dates back to Africa.
Thanks SHA for the "root" lesson, Like hayslope, I had my mind in the gutter and it wasn't pretty! LOL
And MK is planning on rooting you right out of the pound cake this year.
Seriously, I would like to know.
And in case y'all haven't noticed I ain't bidding on anything else major this year..... No knives no trips.
Just Charleston Pound Cake!!!!!!
I'm going to catch a Bass (Redfish for all you non Lowcoutry types)
How'd that work out for ya????????????
How was the fishing Mikey? Did you catch you some bass? That will be much healthier for hog to eat than pound cake anyway. :p Might as well get used to eating healthy.
We came within a whisker of snaging the goodies last year. Your last minute bid put 1K over the top, and my attempt to respond would have taken the cake if not for a slow computer. That's why we need to keep these bids rolling in earlier this year.
Many thanks for all who have jumped in! Including Dakota and Buddy! Still a long way to go though - we know it is going to take all we can muster, and each and every shareholder makes a difference. GO MK!
Stupid Smart Phones!
Meant "you" - not hog. :knothead:
Well I figured since Sunny Hill was getting anonymous donors I would solicit a little myself. Still waiting on some phone calls.
Did any one see that country singer John Rich raised over 1,000,000$ for St Judes on clebrity apprentice. WOW! maybe I'll send him an email :bigsmyl:
Ole Whip paid you a compliment me thinks: You must be a heckofa hog killer so's he thought bout all yer hogs kilt when he typed, huh? that or that you hang close to Uncle Ray's place and figured you MUST be a good hog killa.
Last year not as well, but it just upped the ante another $25 dollars for the kids.
I'm in for $50 total now! I need to find someone out there to match my $50 to get us a full share....
With all due respect to the $1,000 club. Bite me! :goldtooth: FOR THE KIDS!!!!
Buckeye,
You want Mickey to do what? :eek:
I thought that buckeye's were horsechestnuts and inedible... ???
Come on Charlie.... Surely you know some OSU football players you could get to sell their rings for the cause don't you?????????
Or maybe Tressel could get in on it.....
Oh. Wait. He might be unemployed soon. That probably isn't a good idea.
Thats cold but funny in a sick kind of way,but I'm still pulling for the southern faction.
What is the bid up too?
Don't Cheat...Ohio State can't handle the competetion! :D Just to clarify my $25 bid, it will go to the WINNING side, no matter whether you need it or not. Good luck gentlemen, er..scratch that last part :bigsmyl:
More Mike's on this thread than a CBS telethon
Yup. You're right...your money WILL go to the winning side... the Kids! :)
Got home today only to find our internet service has been down since Thursday and no estimate of when it may be back. So I'm still resorting to the stupid smart phone.
Near as I can tell though 1K still holds a slight lead - $2,000 versus MK's total of $1,725.
No doubt we will close that gap, but we're going to need a whole lot more. And so do the kids of St. Jude!
Keep the bids coming!
Correct on all points...
Buckeyes are not edible and the OSU boys might still have time to sell a few rings. :bigsmyl:
I may live in Ohio but I'm a true "West by God, you better stand up and salute when you say it, Virginia man!!!!!!!! Go Mountaineers!!!!!
Now, back to pound cake. I had somebody get me a little distracted on a turkey feather post. That dentist fellow probably put him up to it.
Tempting, isn't it Michael? :bigsmyl:
MK has never had a plan or been holding back on bids. Just a bunch of people who decide to join in on a great effort to help St. Jude and try to get the goodies in the process.
In past years we always get some bids toward the end as people lose other stuff they had been bidding on and shift those funds to the MK coffers. I would hope that will happen again this year!
But the sooner we get new shareholders for MK, the more pressure we put on the 1K crew. Two more MK shareholders will push them to add another 1K!
Seems like we've stalled out a bit here. Time to stir the pot again. I got wind that there is a check in the mail from Wyoming for $200. Count that as a bid for MK, LLC
Now who's scared to bid themselves?
Oh. Wait. He might be unemployed soon. That probably isn't a good idea.
Next I'll be revealing the winners of the Auctions ending Sunday..... :bigsmyl:
There, see how easy that is? We bid a couple hundred dollars, and the kids at St. Jude end up $1,200 ahead. We can do that again with some help from the rest of the MK crew and anyone that would like to join up.
If some others can step in and get us within striking distance again I can guarantee to put us over the next level. We bump 'em up enough we'll end up with cake on our face! :goldtooth:
In past years, win or lose, many of the MK shareholders have made good on their bids even if we lost the battle. I know that some will certainly do that again this year, but it is not required in order to play the game.
Just as in any of the other auctions, if we end up with the high bid we as a group are committed to putting up the money. But if they somehow steal the pound cake again this year there is no obligation for MK shareholders. You have nothing to risk by bidding with us unless we prevail in the end. If we don't, it is completely up to you whether you want to let your bid ride or not. If yo let it ride it goes down as simply a cash donation to the St. Jude.
So here is a no lose proposition for you. Throw in your bid for $100 to boost the MK coffers. If we come out on top, we get the cake. If we push 1K over the top, that is even more money for St. Jude.
There is no possibility of losing!
Oh, forgot to mention the recent history of this item. For those that may not have been involved last year, 1K leapfrogged us at the last minute with a total of $4,200.
According to my unofficial tally sheet from last year MK also had $4,200 in bids, but I missed the cutoff of the auction due to slow computer response, so the prize went to the 1K guys. of the MK bids, a total of $3,700 was still paid in to St. Jude even in the losing effort.
So the 2010 tally for the pound cake resulted in $7,900 total proceeds to St. Jude. That's quite a contribution from the efforts of a wonderful young girl!!
I say we tkae it over $10,000.00!!!!!!!!! But we cant do it alone. We need some help. So if maybe that item you were bidding on slipped from your grasp you can still put your cash here.
Plus you get some awesome tasting cake. I'll have to take Michaels word for it since he got us last year. But I would like to find out myself this year! So come on Mk shareholders!
Not a bad idea Tim. I think I did try that once during one of our prior battles. If I remember right they laughed at me. And probably kept right on laughing while they were eating their cake. I'm surprised they didn't choke on it.
Hmmm, maybe we need a better bribe....
Let's try this.
Anybody, whether they be a former 1K shareholder or not, who throws in a contribution of $1,000 or more for MK, LLC is invited to my cabin in Black River Falls WI for 5 days of deer hunting this fall. We'll chase whitetails together, and I'll provide the meals. Pound cake for dessert at every meal. :thumbsup:
I can handle 2-3 people pretty easy. If we get more than that we'll figure something out. ;)
I was thinking Krispy Kremes but hunting at Joe's cabin has to be WAY more tempting!
I was going to wait but put me down for:
$100 for MK, LLC
Krispy kernes is about as good as it gets but don't count out what a recording device at camp can do:) or just agreeing about also seeing the hellucination they were stalking. Not that I've tried any of these low down tactics but that is what the voice of experience told me :) he is always trying to get me in trouble which is why I don't listen, too often.
No disrespect to the Marines in our bunch - they are doing a fine job on the front lines. But we're mustering all the forces we can in the battle for the cake. We've called for more support and we will "Take The Cake".
I checked with Sophie this morning and asked her to run outside and dig up some of that " SPECIAL " money I gave her to hide.
She was at first reluctant.
Then I explained the whole donation to St Jude's kids thing and her ears perked up a bit. But I saw she was not yet convinced.
You see I had told her, under no circumstances, to dig up that money until "The Holy Grail" bow came up on the classifieds. I am sure you can see why I trusted Sophie with hiding this money from me. She is hard to sway and very obedient.
Finally I mentioned that we could get a slice of Delaney's pound cake. She grabbed her shades, headed out back, and soon enough coughed up a Franklin.
Gotta love a Chessie! They can be hardheaded and a bit stubborn, but they CAN be convinced.....with the right persuasion!!! Looks like you used the "right" persuasion. If we win, the difficult part with be convincing her to actually "share" the winnings!!!
Love the Chessies. I sure do miss every one of them that have been part of my life.
Hayslope,
You are right on. Chessies don't share so good. But, as you know, they can sure be your best friend.
Joe that is a great offer you have made. I think that may even make sunny jump ship and come on over to our side.
Welcome Sophie!!!!!!!!!!!!
That picture ought to be sent to St. Judes hospital for all the kids and parents to see. It's a classic!
The offer is open to Sunny as well! Would love to have him up to beautiful WI this fall. He can have his cake and eat it too!
We need to keep this one going boys and girls. Long ways to go yet, but we can do it!
Only three days left, and it seems we've lost some momentum here. Can we recover it?? Last year we ended with a flourish, so history says we sure can.
Here is what is needed. Make your bid in the name of MK, LLC. If we end up on top at the end, you owe what you bid, and we will all get Little D's scrumptious pound cake. If we get outbid, you don't owe a thing. So there is no risk in bidding!
Of course, if you choose to let your bid ride and send a cash donation to St. Jude even if we don't win the cake, that is completely up to you. Many have in the past, but it is certainly not expected, just as in any other item you bid on here.
It's time to make the last big push! At a minimum, we need to get the MK total up over the $3,000 mark. We'll see where it goes from there. Can we do it?? It's up to you!
Whip, I am in for a MK LLC share - one Benjamin.
Hayslope has sewn-up the "best pic" of the auction award for sure :help:
There we go! Thanks Jay :notworthy: :notworthy:
Joe, I think we are going to get a big push as soon as 4 closes. I just got a gut feeling. :pray:
Jay,
While I'd love to take credit for Sophie's gorgeous face and eyes in that photo, if you go up the page a bit more, you'll see that Sophie lives at Brian's (Bel007) home. I just happened to quote Brian's post in my post because I have a very big soft spot in my heart for Chesapeake Bay Retrievers. Anyone who has ever owned a Chessie knows what I speak of.......then again, depending on YOUR experiences with them as a Vet, you may see them through a different set of eyes!
I do agree with you though.......Sophie's photo certainly ranks at the top of the auction photos. If by category, Sophie definitely ranks at the top for dogs..........although she has some stiff competition in the "cuteness" category with Skyler's little sister Chloe Beth! I can't believe someone hasn't bid 4 figures on those orange slice cookies yet! That lil' redhead will melt your heart!!!!
I am headed out for the weekend today and won't be back before the closing bell. I'll still be able to follow along on my phone, but it's hard to type much, so I wanted to give a complete summary before I go.
Here is what I have to date for MK, LLC bids on Miss D's pound cake.
Whip - 100
Leatherneck - 100
Gregg Dudley - 100
Robtattoo - 100
Buckeye Hunter - 25
ronp - 100
metsastaja - 250
John HV - 100
stiks-n-strings - 200
Tippit - 100
Hayslope - 100
elkken - 100
Buddy - 100 (elkken)
Dakota - 100 (elkken)
MTArrowlaunder - 25
owlbait - 25
Doug Campbell - 100
Yellow Dog - 100
Iron Bull - 200 (Whip)
dakota tim - 100
Sophie - 100 (Bel007)
pickaspot - 100
TOTAL FOR MK, LLC = $2,325
I hope I have it all correct.
Let's keep it rolling toward the final goal - I'll be watching from my phone!!
:wavey:
Whip,
Were there a way to join in, I would, but all I can do is cheerlead. Who was it said of riverboat rides were a quarter, he'd have to run down the bank yellin, "What a deal!" ? Pretty much sums up my position.
Gotta say thou, seeing that gorgeous country and "cabin", you could likely raise more'n a grand just offerin that as a hunt some year!
Wow... if only, if only...
Enjoy your weekend! Thanks for your and all the rests great entertainment thru this auction!
Every great team needs cheerleaders too Doc! Glad to have you pushing us forward :thumbsup:
Doc, you need to try some cake.
I'll throw in another Benny for ya, so you can have a share, when we win ;)
Wow! Wasn't expecting THAT Robbo. I'm well compensated just to be a vicarious part of all this and blessed to be a part of Trad Gang!
Welcome to the game Doc. I was enjoying year cheerleading though. I hope you had your skirt on when you did it-or not!
Mighty fine gesture Rob.
You're the man Rob!! :notworthy: :notworthy:
I noticed when I did the list this morning that there were a couple of people who couldn't swing a full share but wanted to help anyway by throwing $25 in the pot. And it is surely appreciated! Stiks picked up the difference for MTArrowlauncher. I'll pick up the difference for owlbait. So add $75 to my total.
Can't have any of the team without their very own slice of pound cake!
MK Total = $2,500
Woo Hoo!!!! here goes the momentum again!
Whip, don't forget my $25 goes to the winning bidders! That's the way the SEALS would do it!
Somhow I missed this one, put me in with the "little guy's" for $100
Things are looking better since I posted last night! Rob and Whip - you two are the best. Very cool to see Doc and the rest at full shares.
Hayslope & Brian - I love all breeds that end with "retriever". I have known a lot of special Chessies in my 15 years of practice but don't think I have met one as clever (and charitable) as Sophie :)
I am wrestling with some other characteoz for one of the Tippit Knives on #4. If I lose out,
there will be some St. Jude money freed up for poundcake...or maybe Chloe Beth's cookies ( I heard the past batch is always best)!
There you go with that SEAL thing again mikey!!! :mad:
I do the same to SEALS as I do to dentists. But I'm a gentleman and won't type it on here.
Welcome to the crew Walt! Now we are rolling!!!!
Look out 1k, the little guys are a coming. WooWoo!!!!!
C'mon Mike your a Marine AND an Ohioan, I HAVE to give you a hard time :readit: As a Naval Aviation vet I shared flight lines and helo parts with many Marines, and I survived somehow! But back to what this is really about, I will up my "helper bid" to the winning side to $50.
Yeo, and we're planning on that being MK! Either way this ends up my bids will be on the winning side - St. Jude's!
Thats the statement of the week Joe. :bigsmyl:
Thanks for the upgrade brother.
Well us Sailors have to keep reminding Marines that they ARE a part of the Navy!
:bigsmyl:
I've got another $100 from WY for an extra slice of poundcake.
That puts us at $2,750.
Surely we can take this over $3,000 today! Who got beat out of a bid in earlier forums and has funds left over?
Anyone want to buy a gently abused kidney? :goldtooth:
Bill
OK Joe, put this old Sailor in for 2 shares, then someone can kick us over 3K.
Way to go you swabbies!!!! Glad to have you.
Let's get this over 3 so we can bring the 1k guus out of hiding.
I had a real bad spell this year. Many on Tradgang helped me though it. I owe the Tradgang a ton so please put me in for a share. Thanks Doug
:clapper:
Thanks Doug & Mac!
Best I can figger, that puts us in front at $3050
IN...YOUR...FACE, 1K GIRLS!!! :goldtooth:
Thanks Mac and Doug!!!
MK owns the pound cake! (for now at least)
Michael, where are you at? You're up!
Every person on this thread is a hero in my eyes. Literally! And that goes for both sides. You all exemplify the spirit of Trad Gang!
Has the sun set on Sunny Hill :confused: :confused:
I'm sure he is out putting on some camo face paint to prepare for his final stalk :scared: :scared:
MK will be ready :goldtooth:
Poundcake or POUND SAND! Somebody will have dessert and somebody will be in the desert looking for a soft place to sit :p
I have had so much fun reading the post's on the 2011 POUND CAKE WAR. I would be ashamed if I did not contribute. (MK,LLC.) This is for Doug G..
Glenn♠ :bigsmyl: :campfire:
Did the 1K crew ever bid? All I saw was talk talk talk
GO Rogers, is that a $100 bid?
Les, they have bid 3K so far. Still waiting on them to make it 4.
I would expect another salvo, so even though we have the lead we can't let up now!
Thanks GO Rogers!!
Yes Sir, it's $100.00 U.S.Dollars. ♠
You are welcome , Doug.
Totally missed that. Better round up my 250 to an even 300.00
With Go Rogers on board and Les bumping his bid MK is at $3,200.
My mouth is starting to water!
What do you prefer - pound cake with a cup of coffee? Or pound cake with a glass of milk?
Hey whip, when you win, could you bring me a tiny taste to Compton's? I think coffee is the proper beverage with poundcake, but maybe that is because I'm a NAVY vet :bigsmyl: :rolleyes:
Buddy and Dakota prefer milk .... I'll take mine with Starbucks' French Roast :coffee:
I speak from experience. Coffee is the way to go.
By the way, I think I hear the music from Rocky starting to play in the background.
Now thats a good afternoon! Sunny is hiding for sure. he even let killy take his cigars! :scared:
A nice hot cup of joe will be sweeeeeeeeeeet with mine.
Be very careful what you wish for......
Is that crickets I hear??? Hey, Sunny, can I have a taste of YOUR poundcake? :D I am donating $50 to your bid! :readit:
Julian. You are a smart man.
By the way. You still have my address from last year right?
We could link up at the Tarpon hole this year. Things got busy and I couldn't make it last year.
The water is warming up fast... They should be here soon.
I did see a Triple Tail two weeks ago.
It's a long way from over. Last year we finished with a big flurry at the end and came within seconds of taking it away. Can we push the envelope again? There is still time!
You got more Michael? We're coming for it!
Does Ahhrnold?????????????
Speaking from experience, don't wait too long. I had a 9:00 pm time stamp last year that did us in. It won't happen again, although I am stuck on my cell phone tonight.
I see we finally woke up the dentist .... better to let sleeping dogs lay
Is that an additional 4K or just up from 3K
I do believe it's just their total. I do believe we are somewhere around this:
MK-3200.00
1k-4000.00
I do believe mikey is saying"these guys just won't go away"...
Passing them across the gunnel at the tarpon hole would save me on some shipping. ;) You boys make this fun I tell ya
I'm not liking this cell phone connection. Response time is getting slow.
I've got another $140 from my Cowboy State connection.
That puts us at $3,340.00
$640 more from MK LLC will push 1K to a new level.
Time to play your cards boys and girls!
Thanks for the update Joe.
Come on all lets break the bank on this one!
Just one Buddy.
Whip I'm in with you guys, put me down for $200.00
That a guy, Rick!
Thanks Rick, we needed.more.like you! But in the end,.Sunny side up and his nameless backers win again. No, that's wrong.
The kids and families of St. Jude win again!
My bids stand regardless of the final results.
Hey...I think you've got another day!!!
Yes...you do...
Hey Mk is still in bidness!
Put elkken, Buddy and Dakota down for one more share each, total now 6 shares .... Like Whip, our bids stand no matter what ... and we might even bid some more. Buddy loves KIDS :wavey:
How'd I mess that up???
Man, I hate trying to follow stuff on cell phone!
But we have new life - just seeing if Sunny is paying attention.
Whip been watchin for awhile now, and although circumstance doesn't allow me to go for a full share, put me in for $40 for the little guys. Every little bit helps!
So we're at $3540 now?
AWESOME :clapper:
Thanks Ken :goldtooth:
Sorry, pressed the wrong dang button there!
Thanks Ken, Ryan, Buddy & Dakota! :goldtooth:
I belive we are at $3880 .... Go MK, time to put our rally hats on !
MK, you are sure doing well, but poor Michael is all alone -- or is he?
The anonymous donor has come forward. Surtees clan is stepping up to help out.
So let's bump it up to $5K for 1K.
You've brought out the dogs, maybe you need to turn to the cats as well.
So with myself, Christopher Michael, Kelsey, Justin and Justin's mom, Kelly, let's see if $5K might give ya'll some incentive. This fat ole man needs a few more pounds, and what better way than poundcake! Yummmmmmm!
Sorry folks on MK, but it just doesn't seem fair for one person to handle all the load against so many donors on the MK side. Go get 'em Michael.
But remember, it's all going to the KIDS!
Oh man Larry, you're making this tough! I don't like to battle my buds, but this is Little D's pond cake we're talking about.
MK could sure use a K sized member or two of our own. Still no takers on my WI whitetail offer. Anybody out there want to join the little guys and come hunting to eat our pound cake?
We still need all the little guys though too. Don't let up now - keep there pressure on! Last year we had total bids of $8,500 between the two teams combined. We've already past that this year. How much further can we go?
Sneaky,sneaky,sneaky!!!! :eek: Getting up at 0400 and throwing that bid out there Larry. Sneaky(but totally awesome).
Alright MK boys and girls. 1k has set the bar really high this time. We got work to do today! Looks like we better get into the reserve stash.
We will not go down without a fight!!!!!!!!!!
Back off Cloudy, Ken (et al) know a winning team when they back one, that was a raise for MK Llc.
Which, I believe, puts us to $4280 (I think)
Ken (et al) are just giving MK the financial support package (Bail Out) that every other small Corporation has been getting from The Gubmant.
Ken, (et al) Thank you SOOOOO much for your capital injection, it's folks like you that give
the Working Man hope. Whilst all the Capitalist Fat-Cats continue to throw their millions into the public sector, trying to capitalise on the modern trend of 'supporting the masses', genuine people of the proletariat like your good selves keep the wheels that run society, greased.
VIVA LA REVOLUTION!!
Not only that Rob, but don't they get to go hunting in WI with that magic bid!?
That 2thDr will be by shortly to sass ya all for sure! :clapper: :laughing:
Tatty....... Proletariat????????????????????? Capitalist Fat Cats???????????
Dude... This is about Pound Cake not a commentary on the the stare of the union!!!!!
By the way..... The bid is 5k. Not 4 whatever....
I thought 'Proletariat' was a very good word & I just wanted to be the first to use it on TG :D
I'm trying my best to think up some kind of witty analogy between Poundcake & the Capitalist/Socialist ideal, someting to do with all the substance being around the outside, circling a hollow center, but for the life of me I'm coming up stumped!
I'm still on the MK LLC team ... but really on the St Judes team as we all are.
I'd bid more but I have to go to the Dentist on Wednesday ... and we all know how much those guys charge. :D
Looks like this is gonna top last year! :bigsmyl: :bigsmyl:
Alright Ken! You have certainly stepped up to the plate for MK! And as a result have become our first qualifier for a WI whitetail hunt!
I sure would like to have you as a guest. Buddy and Dakota are invited as well of course :thumbsup:
I'm back to posting on the regular computer - this is much better!
I just went through my list of MK bidders and $4,280 is the correct number for MK. As of now that is.
Stayed tuned for further updates! :readit:
Alright Ken!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Just got home from working(thats what us little guys do) and saw this. Just freaking great!!!!!
Come on everybody we need some new blood!!! 6hr. 45min left.
Whip worked me to the bone this weekend to help get his whitail paradise in shape withholding water until I got the work done. As I dragged myself back for my meal of bread and water he informed me I owed $100 for my pound cake desert. Add mine to MK.
:thumbsup: :thumbsup: thanks Bruce
I have to admit that it is. And I really think you are safe to assume that you are indeed the first to use it on Trad Gang.
Way to go Bruce!!!!
We are still down folks. Couple hours left to take this over the top.
If we decide to let sunny,Larry, and 1k win we need to at least break $5000.00. Lets do this for the kids!!!!!!
We are at $4380.00 right now.
Nows the time to sprint!!!!!
Julian,I think poundcake is enough!!!! You start adding strawberry or something like that and I'll have to sell the boat,dog,kids,house,etc. to get some cake.
Sorry,let me correct that,no dogs are being sold.
The showing of the participation of the kids during this whole auction speaks volumes on how they too want to help some needy kids. Don't change a thing Julian,it's perfect just the way it is.
Welcome Travis!!!
1) Pound Cake
2) Tippit Blade
3) For any MK contributor that hits the 1K mark a Wisconsin whitetail hunt.
How's that for incentive? We're closing fast on that 5K mark, and there is still time. Let's do it!
I increase my bid by an additional $500 over and above my previous bids.
$1600 for MKLLC
elkken is on his way to pick up his wife from the airport and can't be on the computer at the end. But he wants one more shot at the pound cake with an additional $500 for MK.
This bid is from Iron Bull in addition to what he has already put in. And the bid rides regardless of the outcome.
$1,000 additional to MK, LLC.
Vance and I are good friends, and he always has an open invitation to hunt my property. So he would like his bid to invite Doc Nock to come to Wisconsin.
I'm going to move a copy to the PowWow....I did this during the 'cookie wars' that raised over $6000 for a batch , and the thread got a lot more mileage.
I think it needs to be on the PowWow for a little more enjoyment by all.
Jeff, beautiful knife. I sure hope Little D pulls my name. Hope to see you at the Bear Quest V changing of the guard. The quest continues for the elusive Tippit knife :thumbsup:
Bad news, gentlemen. Delaney just left for a week vacation to Washington DC with her grandparents. Hope you can wait for the knife drawing. Just talked to Whip. He's got the production order and schedule finalized. Production should begin soon!
Yeah....good lookin knife!!
Julian,
That gives you time to save up pennies to pay for the extra A/C pumpin when the oven runs overtime after she gits back.
Guess you gotta wear pullover shirts cause ya busted the buttons off all other shirts being so proud of that fine young lady!
So very, very cool... prayers for a safe, incredible learning journey for her and the GPs.
Julian,
It's Not Official until Lil D draws it...besides Larry, Barry, and I are off in the AM for some bears north of the border :) tippit
Give the bruins a good go of it and we'll draw in a week or so.
I waited a year for another wack at Lil'D's pound cake so I'm sure I can wait a week or two for a knife drawing. :jumper: :jumper:
