Title: B- 55 string
Post by: notdodger on June 05, 2011, 08:12:00 AM
What are everyone's thoughts on B-55? Just started making my own strings. I am making a couple this morning for my Assenheimer take down.
One I am finished with is a endless loop in 8125.
Want to start on endless loop out of B-55.
I am using easton H-nocks. Any info on amount of
strands and center serving??? Thanks for any input.

I had Oliverstacey make one for an old Bear I had. Shot real nice!!  I would ask him, he is way more knowledgable than I.

i tested and compared b55 to b50.  both are "dacron" and have all the foibles of polyester - lotsa stretch and creep.  didn't notice any real world improvement of b55 over b50.

imho, if yer bow is designed to handle modern string fibers, don't even bother with dacron, just stick with using any flavor of hmpe (i.e. - ff, df'97, d-10, 452, etc.).  f8125 is a real good fiber.

Best I can gather it's a slight improvement over B-50/B-500.  Nothing close to the likes of 8125, Dynaflight '97, etc.

Good point for it, is that it is cheaper than the rest.

Good deal. Thanks for the info guys. I will just use the b 55 on my older recurves.

b50, b55, b500 - all those fibers are polyester, they're safe for older bows, and are *nothing* like hmpe modern, low creep/stretch fibers like f8125, ff, df'97, d10, etc ....

B-55 works just fine......and much quieter than the high tech modern materials. Yea, I know I must be crazy, but that has been my experience. It's a heck of a lot cheaper also. It just works for me.......

Another B55 fan here. I tested Chad Francis' LH bow that's being passed around. After shooting a while with the FF string he sent with the bow I made a B55 two bundle 10 strand string for it and padded the center serving to hold the arrow nocks a little better. I shot it a few days and then took it to a trad shoot and shot the best score I've ever shot in a 20 target 3D course. Super silent with small yarn silencers.

B55 fan here fer shur...! Made the right (and I mean right on the $) length, with minimal twists, I find it settles in very quickly.

I have made about ten strings using b-55. I like it a lot, didn't know how much until I was shooting a bow that had a one size fits all flemish string. I need to make a b-55 string for that bow. Steve

I like the B-55 for all my longbows. Fast Flight is just to noisy in my opinion. Granted, that is just my opinion.   :D
