Post by: Real Buckmaster on June 04, 2011, 12:11:00 AM
I have Acs cxz  62" 54lb at 28 seems somewhat louder than my morriosn recurves any sugetions for getting it a little quieter? I am using two pair of rubber silencers. And am shootin with brace ht on the low end.

I shoot a padded loop 6 strand 450+ on my ACS 57#@28 braced at 6&3/4" and with a pair of whoolie whispers,I think it is very quiet.I find the different types of low stretch strings can make a difference.I have bows that are quieter with D97,some with 8125 and some with 450+.

I have a 62" A & H in almost the same weight, and I don't consider it noisy at all-with one puff on each end.  Same with a couple of Adcocks that have even less silencing.  My brace height is close to recommendations.  I've only used very minimal silencers-typically I start with none....add one on each end if necessary, and then start trimming to find the minimum that seems to work.  My strings are home-made flemish, either 6 strand ultra-cam or 8-10 strands of 450+.

Some recurves have been very noisy with skinny strings and very little silencing, but I haven't found that true with the hybrid longbows.

Two pair of rubber silencers is an awful lot(guess that's why you're asking!)  Does more brace height help? I used to start with minimal brace height and nock height and work my way up.  Now, I go the other way.  Any chance the combination is causing some arrow slap?  Are you using real light arrows?  I'm typically shooting about 600 grains with 18% foc.

No offense intended.  Owning the kind of bows you're describing, you likely know all this stuff already.

I am using 55/75 goldtips my draw is 27" It migth just be me I am not used to shooting longbows, but just figured they would be a little quieter than recurves. Bobs bows are pretty quiet.

Those I've been around are very quiet, so I'd guess it's one of four options..

1. Wrong brace height
2. Wrong stringmaterial/thickness
3. Constant bad release (but I'm pretty sure that ain't it  ;) )
4. Wrong arrow weight (Also sounds like it's not this one either)

I'd look at nr 1 & 3.
Hope you get it sorted  :)

PS! It seems to me that whiskers make more 'drag' noise on the release then does yarn or wool, but that might be just me..

I have had several A&H. The only noise I ever seen is if the bows were shot 3 under using a light arrow. When shot split finger, very quiet.

Mine makes a thawack noise in the woods, seriously, its dead quiet w/ wools on it. Try playing w/ the brace or a little heaver arrow.

Low brace height could easily be the problem. I would raise it 1 or 2 twists at a time after taking off 1 pair of silencers. The ACS bows I have heard shot were not particularly noisy and a bow would have to be real noisy to need 2 pairs.

One of the things that always impressed me about the ACS's I've owned(afew) was how  QUIET they were!!

Is the CXZ the 12" riser bow?  I have been on the web site and can't find that info.  I have been looking at the ACS for a while now. I have shot them whenever I can. I have been waiting for the 12" riser bows to show up more because I want a 60-62" that will work well with my draw length.  I got to shoot these at the Kalamazoo expo for the first time as well as the ILF limbs.  Of all the ACS stuff I shot the 12" riser 62" bows was the nosiest.  Noticeable more so than the 12" riser 60" bow.  More like a recurve to my ear.  A trad gang member from Kalamazoo recently got a 62" and I noticed the same thing.  It was really dead in the hand, fast as all get out, and shoot right where I was looking with great groups each time I picked it up, but still a little noisier than I would like.

I shoot a 66" A&H so my set up is different....

I do use a 10 strand 8125 and I only use one catwhisker that I split in half, a half tied on at about 1/4 from the end loops..

My brace is 7 1/2", again a 66" bow..

I had a problem with noise until I got my form right. Think alignment and back tension.. Get that working correctly and the bow is QUIET !

I've shot quite a number of animals that ran fifteen to thirty yards, stopped and looked around, not alarmed, then fell.. To me, that's quiet..

                      Good luck..

Noisy ACS? That is surprising, like others here I shoot ACS bows and find them extremely quiet. I use a six strand SBD string with a little wool silencer. Brace is 6 3/4 and arrows are 12 gpp. My son shoots the same set up, for us they are very quiet bows.

Mine is a 66" 48@29", b-55 12 strand, 8" brace ht., 600 grain arrow, with wool puffs.....almost silent!!

Like others have said. My ACS is quieter than any recurve I've ever owned. The 2 things that come to mind are brace height ( my 64" is at 7 3/8" ) and string material. If the string is dacron it will sound and shoot like doo-doo.

Mine does not shoot like doo-doo with b-55, in fact it is more silent than the 2 fast flight ,high tech strings it came with!   :dunno:

You may have nailed it with the low brace height.

I have a 64"ACS, rubber silencer placed 16" from each tip. It shoots best with the brace height set @ 7 1/2". If the string stretches to where the bow starts making the "shuga" noise the groups are gonna openup and the brace height is down to 7".

Measure your brace height.

Add 4 twists to the string for each 1/4" of brace height you want to add, till you get it shooting quiet. Then mark your arrows with a "sharpie" so you can check the bow in the field. No sense in blowing a shot because your bow is out of tune.
