Title: Treestands for crooked trees? Are Climax stands still available?
Post by: Huntin' Texas on June 02, 2011, 12:08:00 PM
Hey ya'll,

I need some tree stands to hang in crooked  Hackberry and Spanish Oak trees. I used to use Climax stands and they were great, but I can't find them available. Does anyone know if there is still a place to get them? If not any other recommendations for stands to use in crooked trees?

Thanks, Aram.

Look at swivel limb tree stands I have not bought any yet but they look like they should work for crooked trees

Take a look at Twisted Timber Treestands out of Rochester, Mn. they were at the Wisconsin Deer and Turkey Classic this year and they looked like they could do the trick at a reasonable price. They have a website at . They are a new business, last three years I believe.

I still like the Climax - the brace is underneath and out of the way..  Unlike the stands that have cables from the "spine" to the platform..

I don't know if Climax are still available.

GameTamer Tree Stands by Joe Dunn. These stands were designed for crooked trees, like the live oaks in the Tx hill country. My dad and I have used these stands for 20 years with great results.I think they are still made here in TX.

Gametamers get my vote too...., seat turns 360 degrees. I have yet to find a tree or limb too crooked to hang one on and it not be perfectly level.
The TS 31 model's base is large enuff to stand and shoot.
The stands are heavy....like 31 pounds, but are easy to hang, and the most stable, comfortable stand I've ever used.

Climax must still be in business. Joebuck had a brand new one shipped to me last year from the company. I used it as a pattern sort of to make him some small platforms to use with his Guido Web harness. I  used the climax myself this past season. I love the way it bites into a tress.

GameTamer is the bomb! Once you sit in one of these you will want no other tree stand, period! The TS30 is great for permanent type set-ups and the TS24 is good for hunts where you have to pack your stand in and out. You cannot beat these stands for Texas hunting. I own 7 of them and whine EVERY time I sit in any other now, they are so comfortable.

Saw some Amacker timberlock jack plate stands over on the auction site. Looks like they are adjustable for crooked trees.

I'll second what Bisch says, I have two of the TS30 stands, they are too heavy to transport a long ways, but for hunting in Texas you cant beat them, as you can usually drive close to where they need to go. Most stable and confortable stand on the market, period. Can adjust to almost a 45 deg. angle. Will last forever, well worth the money.  RW

Pretty sure the guy making the "Climax" has retired, and I don't think anyone is making them anymore.

Some links to several good stands here, but one thing to think about when hunting these irregular trees.. (I know I love the concealment too,, but)

If you are wearing a fall restraint (Whomever's) and you fall,, How to you get back to the tree?

If you can't get back to the tree and relieve the pressure of the harness, you have precious minutes before you black out, and if not recovered soon, probably for good.

I've bought several Climax stands within the last year directly from the maker.  They don't seem to advertise much.  Gene Wensel gave me their contact number.  The stands are well under a hundred bucks and were shipped quickly.

FYI:  I spoke with the creator of the Innovative Stands last week about all of the problems they had last year with inventory.  He no longer owns the company . . . sold the rights to a big outfit that makes metal equipment other than treestands.  They are currently looking for dealers outlets for the next generation stands.
