HERE WE GO!! . You will shoot 4 arrows this week. If you have ANY questions let me know. I'll be near a computer the rest of the week. GOOD LUCK!!! :archer2: :archer2:
It might be good to go over your target dimensions one more time Please. never mind I got it on page one
10= quarter size (unless ur from oz)
8= 3" ring
6= 5 1/4 ring
4= the rest of the nine inch plate
Cuts only no leaners....
Good luck to the crowd....
Thanks Mike!
OK I'll be first to post.
My Grandfathers 69' Bear Grizzly 56" 50# @ 28" & Gold Tip Trad 35/55's.
That was pretty tough since I don't normally shoot like that.
16 total score.
By the way Snakebite I like your sig line... :D
Great first challenge! I only have two 125gr field points so I have two pics. This is with the Samick. Loving this bow.
First two after 3 warm-ups (glad I took my warm-ups turned around):

Second two:

If cut line is higher score, put me at 32. (Thanks, Snakebit)
Good fun!
Rusty
If it cuts the line you get the better score! Nice shooting guys! I'll post my tomorrow hopefully!
I want in too. Could someone help me out with a link to the target specs.
Thanks,
Don

Look at a post above for the dia. of the circles. I believe it is a 9" plate, and the less technical circle sizes are the natural circle line in the plate just inside the fold pattern, inside of a roll of duct tape, and a quarter. Someone correct me if I am wrong. About the circles that is. :D
I have a question. How long is a step? Are we talking yards?
12 steps for me is just past 10 yards.
28 on a rainy morning with my new Big Jim TC.
I had to make 2 x 2 arrows, too. As im still tuning these and only got two fletched ones for now.
43@30" LB with Powerflight 500 and 225 up front.

big 10, tough on old guys having to twist around a bit 180 degrees.....
Welp, here's mine, not too good but leaves room for a massive come-back on round 2 :D
Picture is click-able for the full size shot ;)

If cuts count for the inside ring I guess I got 24. Shot with a #47 Bob Lee longbow :)
My score was much better using my Big Jim 'Big 3's'.
thats the first time i ever shot in that position. it's tough, and i'm fighting a habit of dropping my bow arm. 10 points for me. don (http://i1105.photobucket.com/albums/h356/donny-szymanski/miscellaneous%20pictures/1sttradfunshoot10points001.jpg)
Here's my target from today. 24 points, not a bad way to start I guess.

I hope everyone enjoys Memorial Day and take some time to honor the men and women who have sacraficed so much for the rest of us.
Brian
12 feet or 12 yards ?
I took 12 normal steps, putting me around 28-30 feet from my target.

I am impressed no matter how old you are. :notworthy: Hard on anyone to twist 180. I shoot with my feet pointed about 90 to the target so with a starting point of my feet pointed directly away from the target I only had to twist 90.
30 for me. This is about 10 yd. in my barn, where I spend all winter shooting so it is probably my best distance right now. I did spend some time working on how best to make the twist while maintaining upper body alignment as close as possible to normal. That for me meant turning mostly at the hips, knees and ankles ending in a half setting squat. I turned normal and shot a 32. Then tried it the way I would probably normally do it with no thought by just turning and shooting. I got about 22. Working on figuring out the best form helped a lot.
I try to step off in yards. I just didn't want to put yards as a measurement because Aunty is from NZ and I didn't know what they use. So as close to 12 yards as possible.

Thanks
Wasn't as hard as I expected. Needed help to get untwisted but I'll be OK :) . Looks like I got 30. Used my 66" 47# Mohawk T/D longbow

No, the picture isn't upside down. The target is.
I normally don't shoot in that position ! But I did better than I expected with a 16

Okay.....I shot these this morning. I think this is a 24. Much better than I thought I'd do. Must be beginners "luck"!!

Here's mine for the week, a 28. Good challenge, I don't usually try that shot.
Reed (7) decided he wanted to shoot his newly-skinned bow. (Copperhead on top, water moccasin on bottom)
I didn't make him turn around but here's his target after 4 arrows. (His 12 steps were a tad shorter than daddy's) :D

Good job, Reed!

Here's mine:

I got 32 points. That one on the ten line barely cut the line.
Very observant slowarrow, thanks for pointing that out
I'm still trying to untwist, here's mine
(http://i1111.photobucket.com/albums/h477/njloco/IMG_1618.jpg)
22 pts., I'll try to improve.
I shot 4 6's....24 score.
Never really practiced that position before..kinda fun! Just wish my range finder was dialed in a little better...lol
Good shooting everyone!
It's cool looking at the different arrows.

Well, John, you get the prize for the tightest group. Nice shooting.
Nice shooting guys! I had a family gathering all day so I wasn't able to shoot, but I'll try and do it in the morning. Its a lot of fun to look at everybody's groups and hearing the comments. I hope you guys had fun with the awkward position, I thought it would be a fun one to start out with.
Zradix- Nice group!
Correct me if I'm wrong but we've got a tie for the lead so far with, Rusty Snuffers and looper with scores of 32.
That group looks better than some of my rifle groups. :D
Nice shooting!
BTW, Looper's 32 looks better than mine, so if that remains the top score, Looper can do the honors for next week.
Rusty
I'd rather be lucky than good any day!
I doubt if the next group will be as good..but who knows..?!
When can I shoot?
You have all week Rick
Zradix, if you can't duplicate that great group facing forward, your gonna look real funny in the woods hunting shooting backwards,LOL. :notworthy:

My score is 26...
I usually don't shoot so close, or much while facing backwards... I am happy with it...
Didn't have a paper plate and made it a lil harder by drawing a 8 inch circle instead of 9 in but the others are right...
43# Toelke whip...
Kinda cocky for a starving pilgrim.
Well Chezney and I shot today. I had him shoot from 6 yards.
Score Chezney 4, James 12
Was real fun. I think I can cancel the appt with the chiropractor now.

Was out of town this weekend, but did sneak in a NFAA Field/Hunter round Sunday. Will shoot tonight or tomorrow.
All right. Here goes nothing.
We didn't have any 9" paper plates. So I used a corn tortilla. Seemed to work ok.
Except that I made the 3rd ring (the 6 pt ring) too big. :readit: :knothead: So I'm gonna guess the 3 shots at the bottom of the target are within the real 5 1/4" (6 pt) ring and the arrow on the upper left is outside the 6 point ring & is worth 4 points.
Which gives me a total of 22. Did I do this right?
yeoman,
everything looks right. i wouldn't let ray charles help draw the circles next time though
Alright i was going to shoot my targets yesterday but i was flat tack crutching lambs all day but i managed to do it today. pretty bad shooting but i havent shot my bow for a month and a half. Score 22 (http://i719.photobucket.com/albums/ww192/Karenahynes/SDC10251.jpg) (http://i719.photobucket.com/albums/ww192/Karenahynes/SDC10252.jpg) Had to roll a hay bale out of the hayshed makes a good back stop lol. I would love to see the video! :clapper:
Round 1
(http://i113.photobucket.com/albums/n226/gdwamsley/Photo-0072.jpg)
28.
I don't feel too bad about that. My best shot for scoring was the one i thought about the least. My first 2 warm up shots I drilled where the 10 ring would have been. Decided to shoot 1 arrow at a time. Maybe I won't warm up next time. Guess it depends on the rules huh.
Shot with my Dale Stahl 47# limbs.
Ok so it was harder than it sounded. 3 6s and a 4
for a total of 22 points :archer2: (http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss321/Ladams/IMG_4480.jpg) (http://i588.photobucket.com/albums/ss321/Ladams/IMG_4479.jpg)
nschlag:
Good idea. I'm still laughing over your comment. :biglaugh:
Would you believe I was trying to be careful drawing those circles?
I think I need to get my eyes checked.
Well my first shot was the eight, so I was thinking I was going to be on today. Then I shot a four, miss, and another four. :bigsmyl: I'm in with a 16.
Started with a 4 got better with each attempt. Score....22. (http://i1222.photobucket.com/albums/dd491/rsgeconard/Trad%20Gang/Junefirsttarget.jpg)
Bowman, hope you ate that tortilla afterward, tradgangers don't waste any meat. lol

Dammit--screwed up replying to last--Osage61, you've got a 20--there is no 0-ring. See page 1, Mike Most's post describing target.
Here is my entry. Shot a 26. Thank goodness for the cut lines counting toward the higher score!

Ya you are absolutely correct thanks  !! From my set-up I've given myself a small four point ring and then a zero area. Appreciate that Brett

Yep top score is still 32. It'll be interesting to see how many more come in.
well, I won't be contending!
First try resulted in an 8, still trying to groove in the new shot sequence.
Lot of fun trying (didn't waste the time posting a pic), I'll be looking forward to the next one.

God bless,Mudd
Alright, it's a party now, Mudd's in! :)
:archer2:
Mudd, it looks like a 22, if that lowest one cut the line. 20, if not.
It broke the outside edge of the line but not all the way through it.
God bless,Mudd
Hello snakebit40, are you down with tallying this shee-bang? I'll work up scores if you want. Might need some kinda .jpg file height forgiveness from the moderators, to allow all the contestants :-)
Mudd where I'm from, touching the line is counting. Looks like two 8's and a 6 to me.

That's a 22, then. I had the same thing happen in my group.

Tomorrow is the last day to post for this shoot. I decided to make this a weekly shoot instead of a bi-weekly. I'm having WAY to much fun looking at everybody's groups and scores lol. Sorry for the short notice.
Also, I can keep track of scores. If you want a sheet that shows where everybody placed I guess PM me and we can figure something out. Thanks for shooting guys!
Here's what I have so far.
Let's see those scores guys.
If you see any problems let me know.

I finally made it out the store for some paper plates. Shot at 12 yards with my TS Mag. Got lucky on two of the shots and broke the 8 line for a total of 30.
Might be.
Kinda hard to tell from the pic.
Those B-heads cut a big hole.
Hard to judge the center of the hole in the pic without giving an advantage to the B-head slice.
I'd say it's on you to make the decision as to where a field point would've cut the line or not.
Heck, I'm not the judge anyway...but you did ask.
Nice shooting whatever the score.
rm 81..
Like your fletching.
That top one musta been close. lol
But, If it cuts it, it cuts it.
Good shooting!
Looks like 24 for me this week.
