Title: beating up rug rest?
Post by: huntin_sparty on May 29, 2011, 09:53:00 AM
Got to shoot yesterday for a few hours with my kidlets (great day!). But after a 150 arrows found that the bear rug rest is already major fraying and showing wear on the left side close to my bow hand.  Wondering if nock pt issue. Arrows show bare shaft weak which I am working on. Set up bear kodiak magnum (2011)50 lb cut past center, AD hammer head lite 175 gr. 1/4 in knock pt shooting split.  Any suggestions?

Try shooting your 175 Grain BH and let us know where it is hitting relative to the 175 gn field pt shafts as well as from what distance. We will gain more valueble info once you can provide us info the further you move back.

Why do you have three threads with the same question?

You need to spend more time tuning to cure your rug rest problem.  It could be nock point or that your "weak" shaft is really bouncing off of the shelf and is really stiff.

I'd try a much heavier point to make sure it's weak.

Try turning your cock feather in.

Cock feather in works better for me too.

Shooting 4 fletch 75 x 105, at 20 and 25yards.  I went to 145 grain heads and they still were hitting right of fletched.  Maybe I will try 200 grain cause there was a scuff on the leather pad on the riser too.  Wont let me shoot broadheads at the range I was at. for testing.  I will have to go to another when I get home.

I was thinking,as Wingnut, that the shaft may be way too stiff. This can cause the arrow to bounce off the edge of the shelf, causing a "false weak" indication.Wingnut says:"I'd try a much heavier point to make sure it's weak."

Going to 145 is going the wrong direction if this is the case and increasing the weight to 200 may not be "much heavier".Don't be afraid to go quite a bit heavier to confirm what is going on.
