Title: The bored in the garage Side quiver **
Post by: jamesh76 on May 25, 2011, 09:13:00 PM
Messing around in the garage today, the lightbulb in my head clicked. so I made this side quiver out of some deer hide scraps I had from my buck last year and a old bear quiver that was collecting dust. I used the thinner side/belly hair to make it white. About 45 minutes time. I think I like it. What do you think?

Only reservation I would have is wearing it with that bobbing white head-cup with the neighbors I have.  I suspect there's some long range harvesting in what is supposed to be shotgun slug territory - and not limited gun season.

I was thinking the same thing about nut jobs that would take a shot at a white flag.  I think I would only use it at the range.  Nice looking quiver.

I like it and think you did a great job on it

However, white can, and has been, considered a dangerous color to wear in the woods during deer hunting season. Especially if young or in-experienced hunters may be sharing your hunting area with you and your sneaking thru the woods as many of us do while "Still Hunting"..

Realistically, you may be OK hunting as long as your not sharing your season with modern firearms, shotgun, or muzzleloaders hunters.. I would just encourage a bit of caution.  :wavey:

It is cool, but, like others have said, the white might not work so well for a hunting quiver.  Aside from the possibility of being shot at, there is a reason that a whitetail's tail is the color it is.  The same for a cottontail rabbit.  It is very noticeable to wildlife and anything white will immediately draw their attention.

You might be able to dye it, though.

Yeah, It might not be so favorable for hunting applications. I think I will make one tonight with some tan/brown deerhider or maybe some Coyote.

Will post pics after completion.

You wouldn't last very long here in PA if you were wearing that quiver. I won't use white fletching or anything with hair on it.

My high school science teacher was shot and killed while wearing a green parka with fur around the hood, and he had his orange vest on over the coat! Another friend was mistaken for a deer as he walked out of the woods with white fletching. He was wearing an orange vest and hat. Luckily he was identified before he too was shot at.

Hunters are nuts here in PA, you really have to be careful. I wasn't mistaken for game but I know what whizzing bullets sound like.

Really nice quiver but I would lose the hair. I made one similar to yours from a Delta 7-arrow. It's one of my favorite quivers to use when still hunting.

Nice quiver! Good job.

You've probably heard enough about the white so I'll not say anything.  :D

Well I got the hunting friendly one done tonight, but with baseball and all I did not have time to get up any pictures. Will update tomorrow for your reviews.

Ok, Here is the more hunt friendly one. It has a little patch of white on it, but is on the underside of the quiver and might get cut off anyways. I like this quiver a little more except for the strap I used. It seems to be a little thin.
