Hello all, hope your having a good day.
Let me start out by saying I shoot a PSE kingfisher recurve right now, and I am looking for a new bow.
I got the recurve when I was 13, and haven't had the chance to shoot it much until the past 4 months.
And after I shot for a while, and did some reading on here, I have come to the conclusion that this bow has some pretty bad finger pinch.
Its incredibly uncomfortable to shoot. I find myself getting frustrated while shooting, which never happened when I was younger.
I think my draw is just too much for this bow.
Anyways, I am looking for a bow that has a nice, smooth draw, with little finger pinch. And stacking is a bit of a problem for me too.
Right now I am drawing 55@31
If anyone can make a suggestion for some bows for me to check out, I would be very appreciative.
I am saving any money I get, and am willing to wait.
I just want to get a NICE bow that is going to be suitable for someone with my draw.
Thanks
Preferably a longbow
Shrews will handle that draw quite nicely
Sasquatch by Bigfoot bows, Eaglewing, Morrison, Whippenstick, Centaur, Pronghorn, Protege, and a whole bunch of others that I am sure you are about to hear about. Best thing is to read the reviews here and if you can actually test some bows or get testimony from people that own them. Each bow has its faithful group of followers that swear by them. Most with good reason.
God bless and good luck, Steve
there too many good bows to mention however a longbow might be your thing call northernmist they all for the most part can handle your needs if you like recurve call black widow what ever you shoot really dose not matter what you need is a bow that fits you .
I've got a friend and his draw is 31 or 32 inches. He shoots a Schafer Silvertip. Like Plumber said, call the bowyer and get a bow that fits you.
I draw 32.5" and shoot a 66" Black Widow PLX, and a 64" PMA II. Both handle my draw length very well with no stacking. Look into BW's test drive program and you'll see what I mean.
I love the Howard Hill longbows and they draw smooth.
whisperstik voodoo :archer2:
Quinn Stallions, in 62-62" will be butter smooth, fast and gret shooters. Pm me if I can be of any help. Oh yeah, affordable too!
I've had two Chastain Wapiti takedown bows that were very nice. They are designed to be smooth past 30".
I draw 31.5" and I am shooting a 62" Black Widow PA. No finger pinch and no stacking. Also i have a original Bob Thompson 66" curve that i loved but my limb cracked after about 15yrs of hard shooting. You cant go wrong with either company.
2x - Protege longbows -sponsor top of page. :archer: 5
Take a look at Blacktail bows (Blacktailbows.com). Norm has a chart on the ordering page that shows his 66" recurve is recommended for 28" - 33" draw lengths. I have a 64" that I draw to 29" and I suspect it would also work out to 31". Definitely one of the prettiest and best finished bows out there.
Recurve longer than 64 and longbow longer than 68. After shooting short bows you will notice a big difference.
My 66" Black Widow PLX and my 64" Black Widow PMA are both silky smooth out to my 31" draw.
I recommend that you test drive a Black Widow... they're fantastic bows!
I draw 31.5". I have a Lost Creek and Black Widow PSAX and they both do very well with long draws.
Stewart's Archery.
Leon's bows have the smoothest draw of any I have felt. They are no slouches at sending arrows downrange, either.
Killdeer
Try a 64" Toelke Whip very smooth shooting bow. I have a 30" draw.
Martin Hatfield, best bang for the buck.No stack, fast, tried and true.
Look in the classifieds for longer bows. Way too many great bows listed that will fit you. I shoot longer straight handled lb's only & draw 31" also. Good luck.
If you are looking for a D-shaped longbow and are wanting a custom I would look at Bamabows. I draw 31" also and my 68" Hunter is the most comfortable longbow I have shot. Nate is great to work with as well and the prices and turnaround time are hard to beat. Good luck....Shawn
A lot is going to depend on how sensitive to stacking and finger pinch you are and how much it is going to effect your accuracy.
Personally, I draw just over 31". To be honest, there was only a few bows that I can recall that felt smooth to me through entire draw. One was a 68" Original Brackenbury Drifter Recurve. Another, a 70" target recurve with WW Inno or Winex limbs. Lastly, I had two HH style longbows that were 70". All I can suggest is to try as many bows as you can and try to decide for yourself. Or maybe get draw curves from potential bowyers.
Don't get me worng, I can still shoot bows that are shorter then that, but for complete stack and pinch free those were the ones that I have shot anyway.
I agree with hvyhitter. Would add that a high RD hybrid should also be at least 64-inches long, 66-68 inches would be even better.

This guy has 4 of our bows and he draws a ittle over 32"
I draw around 31" and LOVE my 62" MOAB from Thunderstick Archery. Jim makes a great looking bow and it is a joy to shoot. I don't feel any stacking or finger pinch whatsoever.
He also makes some other longbows if you are looking for something longer than 62".
I am the guy Dave mentioned. I have 3 St Joe recurves and a St Joe long bow. They are all 64" bows, as I do draw 32" thanks to Rods class. These bows have all worked fine for me. Hope this helps.
I have a 64'' black widow plx and a 64'' big jim buffalo bow. Both longbows and I draw 32''. Both are a dream to shoot with no pinching or stacking. The bowyers made them with my long draw in mind, longer is better and a 66'' would shoot even smoother but for hunting I like the 64's
Andrew,
I am also looking for a new bow in the 30 draw range. My long time friend and bow expert gives the same advice as your getting here. I wouldn't be afraid of a 66 inch Recurve and wouldn't choose less than 64 at your draw. I shoot a 66 inch R/D Longbow pretty good, but will probably go longer on the next one. I Saw an older Schafer in the TRADGANG classified section this morning. I wouldn't be afraid to bargain for that bow after a common sense inspection. I'm looking hard at the Big Jim, BW, Great Northern and Hill take down systems.
It really depends on the type of bow you are looking for. If you don't care about how long the bow is, then just about any bow that is 66" or longer will work fine. If you want a short bow, then the choices are much more limited. Maybe you could give some more information about what type of bow would be desirable to you. Otherwise, you will be getting so many suggestions that this won't be much help to you. All of the bows mentioned in the lengths that have been suggested would probably work well for you, but that is a huge range of choices and is still nowhere near all of the good options available to you depending on what you are really looking for.

Pick out a few that you "THINK" you might like and then get on the phone or email, as others have recommended, and talk with the builders. They are in the business of getting the right bow in your hands.
I shoot Widow stuff but my draw is typical at 28". I do have a 64" PL II that I just had made that a friend of mine who draws almost 31" says its the best bow he has ever drawn...
There are tons of great bows out there... If I had your draw I think I would lean toward a Bowyer that draws 30's or more... Big Jim comes to mind and if I'm not mistaken Mike at Dryad also draws 30"s Plus and would have first hand information as well building a bow for a long draw guy...
Depending on your budget John Havard from A&H I believe is a long draw guy also and has a couple of his bows for sale in the classifieds.
Good luck
Black Widow PMA series 64 in. long , VERY smooth drawing bows .
I'd try and shoot a bunch of different bows while you save up your money. When you find the right one, you will know. Gary
If you can make the drive up to compton in June it would be worth it, can shoot a large variety of different bows there.
