The next place was going to try to call in some jacks . Did a few soft meows on the fawn call. Seen something coming in but was not jackrabbit.

Did some lip squeeks and the next thing I know its buddy was right on top of me!,messed that up.

In another spot found a good spot . Did the soft meow stuff and one comes right in ,took a shot and it goes down then pops back up and runs about tweenty yards and drops.Lookto my fight and see another one but its in some tall grass. A few lip sqeeks and it stands up nice and tall. I shoot it spins and takes off and I lose it in the tall grass. Had to hunt for that one.Number one arrow and jack.

Number two arrow and jack.

both were bucks, tailgate shot.Think I need to take more arrows with me.The call I use is on my hat it a real old fawn call. It has taken lots of coyotes and jackrabbits.

Can't wait to get back out there.

Seriously, a jack rabbit comes in to a fawn call? Or am I reading it wrong?
-
Too Many I was calling coyotes a few years back and jacks would come in from time to time ,so I tried just calling them in . Any rabbit type call will work but I like the sound of my old fawn call. Make soft (Friendly ) meow type sounds , they come into lip squeeks also. Have no clue why. We also have lots and lots of jack rabbits and the bucks do not like each other.

Good job.

That looks like a lot of fun and some food for the pot also.

Nice pics Thumper. I've called in Jackrabbits when coyote hunting many times. I think it is a territorial/mating thing that brings them in. They either want to find love or kick some rival butt while its at a disadvantage. This is kind of proven out by the fact the ones you shot were bucks. Have you ever had females come in?

Awesome job, thanks for the story and pic's. :)

Fisher Cat most are males but have had females come in.I think your right about it being a territorial thing.Jack rabbits are not like bunnies .Jacks are bullies have seen them chase ground squirrels and cottontails out of thier way. This stuff is real habbit forming.
-
Thumper, I never shot any of the ones I called in because I figured they made great decoys. I'll have to incorporate this into my stump shooting in the future. Yeah, one look into their evil, heartless eyes and you know these aren't your Momma's bunnies.
Thanks for posting this, I never would have thought to try it on my own. - John

And they have six inch fangs. Was looking at the first picture of the coyotes and seen one that I did not see before , I was looking at the one right by the tree way down there but there is a secound one at the far left just under the little tree limb much closer. If I would of seen him I might of got a sot off ,most likely a miss but a shot.

Thumper, I think you were lucky just to get the pictures of the coyotes. They are crazy quick up close. Not as scary as a jackrabbit, but alot more predictable. :banghead:
