Went to the work shop this afternoon to crest and fancy up some new arrows.....
When I got ready to start painting some of those "tiny lines" I realized I could not focus on the area no matter how I tilted my head to look through the very bottom of my bifocals....
Hell, I am going blind.... Lucky I had one of those swing arm magnifier lighted thingies....
Getting old is killing me....
Thats funny, I might need a magnifier to tie on a 24 griffith gnat to 7x this year. But, im goin down kicking and screaming!
I hear you, Huntschool. Getting there fast myself.
Pauljr: If its smaller than an 18 I need help with double glasses but I get the job done....
Good thing on the warm water side out here I can get away with 12-14 stuff.....
Huntschool come to Pa, ill show you some world class fly fishn, but ya cant tell anyone where.
That would be nice. I never fished too much in PA back in the day... Fished the upper Deleware, Neversink, Schorie, Willowemoc, etc. and the Flat Brook in NJ... oh, by the way I grew up in NJ. My cousin was a big FFF guy....
Got the MO cold water and the East TN and NC stuff out here.
I'm beyond help, had real good eye site at one time, at least I think I did, see that's not all that goes.
Try some 100% organic Goji berry juice, it does help.
Good luck.
I'm old too.
I can still see where to put the key in my pickup,
I still see where my son's food goes and my wife is still pretty..
Is that good enough?
By the way, I tied my own flies when I fished Silver Creek in southern Idaho 20 years ago...
Size 28 Tricho's. Does that get me in the club?
Ha!
I got you beat with a 36 Petit!
Killdeer :saywhat:
OK, you win.
But, how long did it take you to tie one on when the spinner fall was happenin' ?
I don't tie one on as often as I did when I was younger.
Killdeer
(Oh, and reel flyfishers don't mention spinners.)
Or DO they?

REAL fly fishers know that spinners don't mean spinners. :)
Killy,
nice photo... brings me back to that magical hour about 10 am, just sitting and waiting, until the big ones start to go crazy.
This spinner was on the door of my seedy tourist cabin in West Virginia. Closing up to leave and I had to put it all down and take a pic. North Fork of the South branch of the Potomac. Or vice-versa...
Killdeer
Take heart my friend..... at least you can still see all those 140-160" P & Y's walking around in the backyard !!!
I hear ya though, having to carry my readers with me most of the time now. Sucks getting old and blind.
Well, you know I do have very large mule deer walking around within the city limits. Just can't hunt them.
But they pose nice during the drive around after brunch.
I guess we all have it to "look" forward to (no pun)
I am going to try and finish the cresting work today thanks to the magnifier thing. Kind of a pain in the butt to have to manipulate it and the brush and the paint and the speed etc....
Cams: There was a potential P&Y on the pond dam yesterday afternoon... yep, in the middle of the day.
Huntskool, try doubling up on your reading glasses, or buy an OptiVisor. I have taken to using the latter while fletching, and need it and mild readers for beading. This will free your hands.
My eyesight used to be a thing of admiration and envy.
Killdeer :(
Killy:
Yep.. got the "visors" just too pridefull to use them all the time I guess. This thing works good I just have to get confy with it. Still use double ups for the fly stuff...
Good eyes are invaluble to good shooting. How the heck can you focus on a target that you can't see or is blurred? Some of the guys that I shoot with can see a 12 ring at 20 yards. I don't see it until I'm more than half way to the target. Glasses are some improvement but they can also cause havic. I once lost a state championship because of glasses that fogged completely when I hit anchor, resulting in complete misses twice.
Kildeer, it's good to see that you are well. Nice photo. So that's a spinner?
I knew I was due to see the optomitrist a year ago. Ya know how that goes... put it off...
I will have an appointment next week. Its pretty simple.. I need to get new glasses... LOL
Don, a dun is the guy you see hanging outside the ladies room taking inventory and making noisy commentary.
The spinner has figured out how much he can afford for an engagement ring.

At the height of my prowess I could tie a #10 wooly worm pretty well... I only have bluegills to throw them at now. There were some stocked streams in SC when I lived there, but there are no trout here in MS.
Just got a three-pack of +2.00's at Wally World yesterday for less than $8. One set goes in my tackle box for sure.
