I know it's about time for the St Judes Auction...but it's also time to forge up a new style Team Tippit broadhead. With Bear Quest just around the corner, I needed to come up with something different again. I think this is generation 4 or 5 for tippit broadheads. Got three in the oven tempering now.
Here's how they all start off from a bar of 1080 high carbon steel. Head shaped & tapered on the point & edges. Back in the forge to be finished up. More pictures to follow...tippit

:archer2:
Nice start Jeff
Could you tell me about the hammer again, I forgot where you said you got it & I'm feeling the urge to go buy one.
:campfire:
Rob,
3# Horizon Hammer by Brent Baily...great hammer & great guy to deal with!

I forged three broadheads...two will be on my quiver along with a Glen St Charles Mikey Finn broadhead as my bear hunting bow will be a St Charles Thunderbird...Jay's re-make of Glenn's bow from the fifties. The third one goes to Ted Fry as he was gracious enough to lend me a Mickey Finn even if it gets lost in a bear :scared:
After attending the Tenn Classic where everyone was doing primative arts...selfbows and flint knapping, I wanted these to look more primative. I left the tangs off and made them more like a knapped head. My two heads weigh in @ 300gr making Benjy's Cane arrows 750gr. Ted's broadhead is 260gr...tippit

Wow , Thank you Jeff , I look forward to sending that head through a worthy target.
Good hunting on the Bear Quest , I will be thinking about you guys while I am guiding bear hunters in Idaho.
Ted,
I thought you already left or I'd have sent you some pictures. Thanks for the Mikey Finn and have a great bear season in Idaho...Jeff
Thought for a minute you were gonna say the hammer was on loan from Thor :)
Very cool Jeff! It looks good on that cane arrow!
That looks like a deadly combination.Benjy's cane arrows will be hunting all over the place this year.
Bill
Outstanding looking heads Doc. Can't wait to see it bloodied.
Naw Doc , I leave in the morning , wont be back till the 15th of June.
I cant wait to tie that head on a cool arrow. Thank again and see you in June.
How cool is this?.... Way! I'm saying.....
Thanks for sharing.
God bless,Mudd
Great looking head Jeff! 2nd,3rd and 4th generation have worked very well for me. You must forge some serious mojo in them.
Perhaps we should start a list of all the adventures your broadheads have been on.....
Your third generation head will be going after elk this fall.
I have one of these that will hopefully get a lion someday.
looking awesome!
Awesome buddy! :notworthy:
Can't wait to hear and see what they bring down!
I've been looking at the Bear Quest threads for a several years. Can't wait to actually experience that camp. Looking forward to seeing these heads with my own eyes. Great looking combo.
Don't know how you keep coming up with new ways to improve a great design. I really like this one! Perfect compliment to Benjy's shafts
My Bear Quest arrow specks and total outfit:
1) Main arrow is a raw cane shaft that I made with four turkey feathers, 125gr 8 gauge copper wire inserted in the head of the hollow cane shaft plus the 140gr St Charles Mikey Finn broadhead = 725gr
2) Two backup Benjy cane arrows with my 300gr forged broadheads = 750gr ea
3) St Charles Thunderbird bow 48#@28 and Eagles Flight beaver tail three arrow quiver
4) If all else fails, there's always my forged Bear Sticker  tippit

You are a man of many talents, with lots of Yankee ingenuity and craft ability!
Gotta be neat to work with metal! All I can mess with is wood and not so well with that these days...but Wow!
Very cool, Kemo Sabe!
Is that a lefty bow with a righty quiver? It is a wonderful looking setup you have.
The bow was made to shoot either RH or LH. I shoot RH.
Tippit,
That bow is just plain cool. It's got some serious character. I can't compete with that but I figured we need to keep this thread going so I'm going to post some pictures as well.
I finished my arrows for this trip with a little help from onestringer and his arrow wraps.

Been working on sharpening up my Simmon's Treesharks. They are shaving off hair after using a chainsaw file and a steel on them. Hopefully, I can get them where they will pop those hairs off with ease. By June 10th they better be scary sharp. :scared:

I've even started laying gear out to start the process of getting everything packed. I'm sure I'll end up taking a bunch of stuff I won't use and realizing when I get on the plane that I forgot something. :knothead:

Is that a Thermacell in that box in the back Chris? I hope so!
Very cool stuff guy's........
I love looking at pics of hunting equipment all laid out.
Tippit.......That bow, arrow, knife, combo is just the berries.
Chris.... I love the arrow's, keep the pics coming. :archer:
I really like your latest tradepoint design. It is very similar to what I am making from saw blades. Of course I got the idea to make my own from watching your post on tradepoints. I cant forge...yet. I traded Pat B for some cane shafts and will have a similar look for this fall, will be following post to see how your 3to1 design on cane works for you. Good luck and great looking gear with wonderful meaning.
Good luck on the hunt,I really like your setup should provide some positive results.
That's some mean looking equipment you guys have there...kind of feeling sorry for those bears..kinda ;)
Less than 10 days to go!
