For me its looks,I like to put fur silencers on my selbow because it looks more primative. On my other bows I use fur, wool and rubber catwhiskers.Just use what I have on hand at that time for me.

There was an article in; I believe, Traditional Bowhunter some time ago where they rated the noise reduction of different string silencers and the rubber cat whiskers won hands down.  I used the spider silencers that came with my Black Widow cause they look cool but when they wear out it will have cat whiskers.  The beaver silencers look cool but I have tried them and they would not work well when wet and they scored quite low on the rating.

Well, for me, the rubber cat whiskers didn't quiet my bows as well as the home made yarn puffs I have on both of my bows now.

As for the wetness problem people inquiry about, just spray the puffs with Camp Dry.

rubber cat whiskers for me.  I replace the "spiders" on my Black Widow strings.

One at 9", one at 14" from loop

they both work well. both do a good enought job. are the cat wiskers going to be sooo much quiter that they dont spook deer? of coures not. that is why I like beaver because it is 10times cooler looking then rubberbands hanging on my longbow.

P.S yarn puffs are probally the best over all.with a touch of scotch guard.

I want the lightest weight silencers I can find. Those rubber ones are heavy, and rob performance from the arrow. If you use them, keep them as close to the ends of the bow as possible to lessen the loss of performance. Mostly I use an old bow string cut into about 5" lengths. The wax makes them almost waterproof, and they don't hold "hitchhiker" plant seeds like yarn.

I like the puff ball wool. Fur doesn't seem to do much for me. Cat Whiskers work geat also but they are heavier and I don't much care for the looks of them on my longbows. Although they were all I used when I shot compoubd.

I'm going to go with fur when my new limbs show up. Just looks. But I don't think they are as durable as the wool puff balls. And the only reason I say that is that while watching a Terry Green video (on canting) for the umpteenth time I noticed on one shot that a little puff of fur came floating down...

My Mohawks wear the beaver fur because they don't need much quieting anyway, but on my Widow I use the Catwhisker.  They do a great job.

If you want a quite bow use Cat whiskers . The fur looks great but does a poor job quiteing down a recurve , they are fine on a long bow.

I have both and they work fine.  I like the looks of puffs on my Fedora but the cat wiskers work well on my Lakeside also.  I think it is just personal choice or whatever you have on hand.  Good luck.
