Title: Beaver Tail Rest and Side Plate
Post by: IGetTargetPanic on May 19, 2011, 02:32:00 AM
Anyone have experience with using beaver tail as an arrow rest and side plate?
I saw they sell it but wondered if it has any advantage over Calf hair or Cordovan?
I have Beaver Tail on my PLGA and I like it!
I will order every bow with it on the handle but don't know how good of an arrow rest it would make??

I bought a Cari-bow about 6 yrs ago with 'tail and quickly realized this was the best material for me to use on all of my bows. My Blacktail and my Centaur both "love" it. It doesn't wear out--period. I've shot thousands and thousands of arrows (probably more) over the years--I shoot almost daily--and the rests and side plates look like new. The other materials I used before beaver tail would wear out too quickly for me. I'd give Abe at Cari-bow a call if you're interested in purchasing some. Peace!

Not trying to jack your thread, but I have a question that pertains to the topic.  So most say to only use tanned beaver tail for a grip.  What about the rest/strike plate?  Does that need to be tanned as well?  The reason I ask is that I have three tails in the freezer and have no idea on how to tan them.

My handle was from a non tanned tail and it was real stiff, I tried a side plate and it was a little too loud for me as stated by fountain, I don't know about a tanned one!

All you guys got me jealous!!
If there was beavers in Hawaii I would have a tail or two to try and a hide tan.

I was thinking of buying a beaver hide and a few Tanned tails. Who has some? The hide I want just to use as rest and silencers so wouldn't have to be perfect..
Where is a good place to get some hides??
Maybe That should be a whole new thread..

Abe at Cari-bow sells the finished tails. I've always had enough to do both a grip and side plate. Love the feel and toughness of beavertail.

RipForce56, that looks great on your Bama. I just got another new to me Bama Hunter, 1pc, and was thinking about trying some Stingray for a grip.

What do you think about this? Looks to have a nice texture.

Pine Hollow has Beaver Tail Grip kits. They are Sponsors.

RipForce56, I see you're cheatin' on your Bama's with a Silver Creek. Lol! She must be a sweet bow to share time with those Bama's. I'm on my way out to smack the target with my new 1pc Bama Hunter right now.

IGetTargetpanic, I saw Kangaroo skin rest and side plates in the Sponsor's classifieds. I think Scott Treacher has them. I'm gonna get some and try them.
