Title: Tuning help please
Post by: Eugene Slagle on May 18, 2011, 08:44:00 PM
Was Bare Shaft & Broadhead tuning tonight & this is what I've got for a 18 yard group which is average for the night.

In the picture I have:
1 = Bare Shaft
2 = Woodsman broadheads, "shown by bubble"
3 = Target points

Question:
Since my broadheads are grouping in with my target points should I leave well enough alone & retest at 25 & 30 yards or since my bare shaft is off to it's lonesome on the left & low should I tweak my BH & maybe add weight up front to try to bring it into the group?

Personally I would like to get that bare shaft into the group, but only shooting one bare shaft makes it tough to know what is happening.  I assume this is consistent with what your other groups looked like.

Yes sir, my groups have been like that although I would normally have 2 Bare shafts but I left one on my bench before this group was shot.

If your broadheads are groupin' with your field tips that is looking pretty good!

I would re-test at 25 yards and 30 yards and see how it looks to be sure.

If you cannot wait for daylight and since you have 18 yards indoors to work with, you might check your field tips and broadheads on paper at about 6 to 10 feet.  If they are flyin' straight through the paper, you will most likely be good to go at 25+ yards....

I will be interested in learning about the results!

Shoot straight, Shinken

How many groups have you shot? It would be nice to know if every group looks like this. I'd also probably only shoot the bare shafts and field points and get them together and then move onto the broadheads.

Good luck

This is group #10 & a few I will admit were about the size of a pie plate because of me not doing right.

I'll try paper tuning tomorow or Friday.

Since your field point tipped arrows and the broadhead tipped arrows are hitting in the same place generally, leave well enough alone.

When people bare shaft tune, their release has to "almost" perfect. One tiny pluck which you're not aware of can get you results like the bare shaft in the photo.

The ultimate goals in tuning is arrow flight and broadheads hitting with fieldpoints. Looks like youve got it but I always shoot at about 30 yds to double check. Nice groups at 15 yds may turn into two groups 6 to 8 inches apart at 30.......YMMV

I really hope it doesn't rain Saturday after work, I'll go out to the club & check my Broadheads with my Target points.
