I have a new 2011 Bear TD A Riser. Just received it last week. The grip isn't as narrow as I remembered it being when I tried one on January 7th at the ATA show in Indianapolis. Does anyone have one they could measure? I need the measurement around the smallest part of the grip (pivot point). I'm used to less than 5" at this spot and the one I have is 5.25".
Thanks
I have a 2004 A riser that measures 4.5". It is a little thin for my liking in the palm swell area. Are you going to be at Cloverdale? I would like to check out your A riser. Is your riser a right hand version?
Inrut,
Thanks for that info. This LH A riser I have is thicker around than the Green Strip (B) and the Supreme A I owned and own.
I have a call in to Bear to ask if they will reduce the circumference if I return it.
I may come to Cloverdale this year as a schedule conflict has been eliminated. I haven't been to Cloverdale since 2001 when I bought a Fox High Sierra. Thanks for reminding me of it!
BW: Good to hear you got your new Bear riser.
Great topic to say the least and I was curious enough to measure all of my Bear TD's.
My Supreme and a B and A Black and Tan riser are all 4.75" around (think I got them in the narrowest portion but will say I measured them all the same)
New Bear A riser 5"
Having just got back from the Baltimore shoot and shooting the Supreme and a Black & Tan alot and just picking up the new Red stripe you can tell right away the difference.
I will say I like the smaller throats much better than the bigger one. Will be curious what others find.
Jcar,
Thanks for getting back to me.
I just made some careful measurements. My new A Red Stripe TD is actually 5 1/8", so it is not as wide as I thought.
However, I measured my Supreme A and my Silvertip and both are 4 1/4" -- much more narrow which is why those grips feel so good to me.
It appears there is a lot of difference in the throat circumferences of these bows?
The way I measure is to use a white piece of bow string thread. I wrap it around the throat of the grip and mark where the string end meets the string. I then measure that length.
It appears my Red Stripe is going to be better suited for someone with bigger paws than mine.
Thanks
Roy
The circumference might depend on which person was on the sander that day at the factory. Would love to get the Red Stripe handle to feel like the Supreme.
When I shot the Red Stripe only for about a month I got used to the grip. If I were to switch back and forth between it and the others probbably not so much.....
