we just returned from an awesome hunt with Ray at hog heaven. the weather was great for the most part, and (almost) everybody saw pigs. I had a boar of about 150# at 4 yds, but didnt have an arrow nocked :knothead: there are some interesting stories ill let the other guys fill it out.
Can't wait for this one.
You always need a nocked arrow when you stand!
Good luck for the next time.
I was there last week and pigs were everywhere but in front of me. Glad you all had fun and looking forward to some stories.
:campfire:
Hog Heaven was great this weekend. Had alot of fun with my boys, Luke and Ian as well as John Dill, Lee Hoots and Tim Antoine. We tallied up the hogs seen and came up with 70 plus pigs. As you read above, there were some very close encounters. Luke and Ian both had hogs under ten yards. Luke had a stare down at 4 yards with his boar and Ian missed a large boar at under 10 yards. Oops! I stuck a nice boar at about 18 yards and a sow I shot under at about 30 yards but killed a 30 pounder that was behind her by accident!!!! Dumb luck, mine good, his bad. I never knew I had hit another pig than the sow until we dead hunted her up and the headlamp shined up the mini-pig!! I wish I could have seen the expression on my face. I was expecting a 150 lb sow and got a key fob. The porkus dilecti was never visible to me in the cane. Lots of pigs, lots of fun and a great time had by all. Weather was really excellent for this time of year. Sunday was almost brisk in the morning. The place is really awesome, last year we killed 5 pigs for six hunters. This year we saw more pigs but didn't seal the deal as often! Nonetheless a fine time. Ian(copperhead95) caught a black racer.....again and Luke(longbowkid) had a king snake but the other half of the dynamic duo couldn't assist quickly enough and it slipped away. Tim ran across a LARGE canebrake rattler as well. I shot both hogs with my new Annawaekee Addiction Longbow and It performed perfectly! I really enjoyed it's light weight after lugging around my solid phenolic Bob Lee. Don't get me wrong, I loves me some Bob Lee but I shot this little 56" longbow of John Dill's and was smitten. I am not a longbow guy but you know what they say, "never say never"! Mine is 56lbs and fast, forgiving, good looking too! Bows are something like women, no reason not to have performance and good looks!
We had a good time as always. This time, I got to walk more of the property searching for hogs. Seen 4 snakes in three days. I must be a snake magnet. I seen several last year including a nice copperhead and a king snake. This years highlight was a canbrake that measured 66 inches. Below are some photo's: ignore the date.

:dunno:
Skeeters? Heck no we didn't see any skeeters....they kept blotting out the sun! It was too dang dark to see any skeeters!!!
Simply put.....we had a blast! Ray was a true gentleman and host. Ray has perfected the morning and afternoon hunting advice when heading to the swamps. If you hunt hard and cover some ground in the woods....you'll see pigs!!! Another thing Rays got going is his fine Italian "mafia" cooking(LOL). We had some parmesian and creme pork chops that would make you slap mama. After a 6 hour drive down we all met Ray in Estil at midnight (spooky place). Once at hog camp sleepin, eatin, jokin, and hunting took place all weekend. We had a great time!
Heres a few questions for the fellas?(LOL)
What did Ray really do with that rat he caught? (that crumb cake was off the hook!?)
Where did Luke and Ian learn to put on makeup?
Did Joe Mcmillan really eat a 9 piece chicken bucket by himself?
I think Lee Hoots might be the Hog Whisperer?
Is there a such thing as ground shrinkage with pigs...ask joe(LOL)
I think Tim maybe a snake charmer?
Did John Dill realy miss 3 times at 16 hogs in a single file line?
What skeeters?
Any help would be appreciated(LOL)
its the annewakee association! :smileystooges: trying to steal Ian and my twin good looks ;)
john,I give all the credit to my liberal use of MM

Luke....... :biglaugh:
It's sounds and looks like you guy's had a great hunt  Hope to make it down their someday and see the place and meet the man (Ray) :notworthy:
John the rat was on the pizza why you think I had a sandwhich.
Ian got that makeup skill at rodeo clown school
and who put hog repellent pads in my thermocell?
John you need to get with Joe and work on your hog shooting skill cause a man that can pinwheel a target like that at 30 yards is the man! LOL
Had a great time and Ray is a great host and a helluva cook!
That wasn't a Dezjornough?(LOL) Hog repellent.... :biglaugh:
Ill have to try that face paint style next time i go out, hunting that is. :)
The first thing I thought of when I saw that paint job was Jack Nicholson in Batman - as The Joker
Or a bad raccoon!!! :scared:
