Hello Gang, I was wondering if anyone knows of any Trad Shops in PA (I live closer to Philadelphia) I prefer the little "Mom and Pop" shops over the big Retail chains, it feels like I'm taking a walk back in time when I find these Little shops off the beaten path..Just wondering if I missed any...thank you for any and all suggestions!
theres only one I know of in stanhope nj called allegheny mountain bows
Bill,
I have not found any but I do visit John out at Lancaster Archery. Its worth the ride but is not exactly what you are looking for. J&M Traditions is in Sunbury PA but I'm not sure that they have a shop. I just saw them at the Baltimore Bowmen's Traditional Classic this weekend.
Let me know if you find one. I'd like to go. (:

Martin, Thank you for reminding me about Lancaster, I have one of their catalogs and have been meaning to pay them a visit, I would put them in the same Categorization as a Mom and Pop only because they are not as Big as a Cabela's or Bass Pro,I will certainly pass along any new shops I find in my Travels.
Leon Stewart shouldn't be terribly far from you. Not sure how much gear he stocks, but he makes some fabulous bows...Mike
I have not found any shops where I live either. I live in the Tyrone/Altoona area in PA. I usually order from 3 rivers archery. But if you have free time in the last week in JULY you should go to ETAR. its in SKI Denton PA it has all your traditional archery needs and than some. Pretty much anything you need they will have with all the vendors and such. Its alot of fun this will be my 2nd year attending, hopefully you can go its a blast. It last for a few days so thats an option ok hope this helps good luck Brad
There used to be a couple of Trad shops in Western Pa. One shop in Pitts. was Screeming Eagle and there was another one near Butler. Both shops went out of business. The market is too small to keep one in business. I get most of my supplies from Lancaster archery through a local archery shop. I get my wood shafts from Rose city.
Jim and Marcia Rebuck (J&M Traditions) do have a shop. They moved a few miles last year from Sunbury to Dornsife. They always do Baltimore, Sawmill (STAR) and Denton Hill (ETAR). The old phone# is 570-286-7887. Not sure if it changed or not. Very knowledgable folks, and have been in this game for a long time.
Here you go for J & M...

yeah dream catcher good folks for sure
Bob Hildenbrand and his wife Cindy are an honest to goodness mom and pop who run an archery shop. They are the real deal and have helped more new traditional archers get started than anyone. Bob gets 100% of my business and most of my spending money. They are located in SW PA.

Red,
I agree 100% with you, I got my first Recurve from Bob, I was givin a RH Recurve from my boss, No string no nothing, Once I realized I was a Southpaw, I posted the bow on another website and Bob Traded a LH bow for my RH bow even up, the Bow Bob sent was Ready to go and I still shoot the Wing Recurve Today!!
I would deffinetly get to Denton if you havent yet more trad stuff then you can possably hope for. And a great bunch of people to get together with.
HoggyO
I hear this all the time about Bob. He has taken a loss just to get someone started with their first traditional bow and gear.
We tell him all the time that he is too nice and we feel guilty taking advantage of him. :)
I have been hunting with Bob in Texas and three trips to Ray Hammond's. He is the same person in camp as he is in his vendor booth or shop. Real nice folks!
Red, I have never met Bob in Person, But would love to sit down with him and pick his brain about the stick and string, A Texas hog Hunt is 1st on my wish list of hunts and I hope to make it there one day, Bob will most certainly get my return business,But I still love walking around local Archery Shops!

A little off track...
who was the guy that had the shop in Kutztown?
They just dont come any better them Bob I buy from him every time I can I will be going to the strickly sticks shoot in two weeks and will c him there. Widow
There never was a shop in ktown as far as I know... I lived there from around 1996-2006. I could have sworn my family was the only trad shooters there.
If there was a shop, I would love to know who owned it and where it was.
By the way, Weaknechts is just outside of town there, though it's pretty much all compounds.
