Title: LH "LOSTCREEK" TAKE-DOWN PASS-AROUND/1ST REVIEW ADDED
Post by: Lost Creek Bows on May 11, 2011, 12:40:00 PM
I've decided to offer my new LH "Lost Creek Take-down" prototype as a pass-around. Would love any and all feed-back, constructive criticism, or hopefully "TTT's"! Please sign-up if interested, 1ST sign-up will be 1st on the list. It will be your responsibility to forward in 1-2 weeks, by Priority-USPS(W/$600.00 INSURANCE), to the next person on the list, info which I will email you.

Not at this time, as this was and is my proto-type, but I do have another take-down proto-type that has 4 bolts(2 per limb), that is LH 60" 47@28,that I may offer as a pass-around, also.  This is not the take-down design that I will be building, although, by doing this(offering out both protos), I'm hoping to improve my design qualities, through the publics' opinions and commentary.

Post by: Bud B. on May 15, 2011, 06:35:00 AM
The prototype arrived safely yesterday afternoon. I only got to shoot it about 10 times before having to leave the house for the wife's birthday celebration.

Preliminary observations are aas follows:

Fit and finish are tops. The satin finish looks nice and even throughout the limbs and riser.

This bow is lightweight. Holding it you think it should weigh more than it does. The grip style fits my hand perfectly and comfortably.

It throws my GT Trad 1535s like darts. I need to shoot more today and tinker with tip weights and brace height. It is burying the same arrows deeper into the target than my 40# longbow that's in my signature line. The factory nocks on the GTs are very loose on this thin FF string (at least I think it's FF).

Someone earlier posted, "Does it sing?"

Yes, it does. It hits the target hard. Maybe an appropriate name for this bow is Stinger.

I have it braced at 7.25".

The top limb is marked with a small "T" on one side near the limb bolt hole. It is a little hard to see (my poor vision) but it is cleaarly there.

I'm taking it to a 3d shoot today. I'll report back with more when I shoot it alot more.

I'm shooting two fingers under and draw 29". If your draw is more than that you're pulling this 58" bow too far. I'm right on the edge of maximum draw. Chad said a 60" bow would be better for me and I agree. I'll be trying to shrink my draw to about 28.5 while shooting it.

So far I think Chad has a winner here. But don't ask him to make one out of sassafras.      ;)

Please excuse any typos...it's early.

Post by: Bud B. on May 15, 2011, 10:00:00 PM
I got to shoot the prototype a little more today. I wasn't comfortable yet to actually shoot it in the tournament. But I did fling some arras at a 20yd target. My groups were a bit spread out at first. After getting a little more used to a FF string (I shoot B55 flemish) my groups tightened up. I had four arrows at 20 yards with feathers nearly touching each other.

I did get to chrono a 397gr arrow. It was right at 170fps. The arrow used was a full length GT Trad 1535 with a 125gr field tip. I imagine I could get more fps out of it but I'll be the first to admit that my release ain't the smoothest.

I showed it to other trad shooters (all right handed) and several commented on the light weight of the bow and of the craftsmanship. One fellow really wanted to shoot it but said he just can't shoot left handed. All gawkers really liked the color of the bow. Good comments on the finish also.

There is a trad only shoot this upcoming weekend at Sissapawhaw in Burlington, NC. After I take it there I'll ship it to the next shooter.

I have not noticed any handshock. It makes a dull and lightly heard "thunk" when I shoot it. Not much sound at all but some. A bystander commmented on how quiet he thought it was.

I'm going to move up to a 145gr tip and practice with that this week in prep for the shoot at Sissapawhaw. I won't forget my camera next time.

By the end of my shooting session today the bow was allowing me to draw it fully to my regular anchor point. There was absolutely no stack. Drawing from the first inch to the final anchor was a steady smooth resistance.

I may twist up a B55 string for it and see what happens.

You have a nice prototype on your hands Chad. Very nice bow. I can only imagine how sweet a 60" or a 62" bow would be at 45#.

Jump on it lefties...it's a nice one at a very shootable poundage. You can shoot this one for hours at a time. I shot for about 30 minutes yesterday and never tired.

I was having string contact with a wheel on most draws, had to kant the bow uncomfortably. I did like the way the grip fit my hand and the workmanship, but I did not realy spend to much time at my indoor range with it once I found my difficulties.

Sure the rest of you will enjoy  MARK

Chad and I spoke on the phone about the bow.  What a great conversation - I was impressed with the man!
Now to the bow:  It is as good in person as the pics- fit and finish is top-notch.  I couldn't get over how smooth the draw was - out to my 29" with no problem.  I was surprised by how LITTLE handshock there is in this little bow-  And it is VERY light-weight.  It shoots great with the FF string Chad supplied, but I didn't care at all  for the dacron string that has been added.
I'd give this bow a hearty endorsement, but with one additional comment.  I normally shoot 64-66" and at 58" it was short for my tastes.  I'd say up to 28" draw it would be fine, but even then I'd suggest going to 60".  For myself, I'd go to 62" or even 64" if Chad offers that length.  At the short length, light weight and my longer draw, it takes a good deal of concentration to maintain the form to shoot it well.  By that I mean it responds to slight changes in grip placement and pressure.  As I talked to Chad about that, he agreed I'd do better with a bit longer length.
As I said, I'm impressed with the man, his willingness to discuss his work and the design/workmanship of the bow.
Good job Chad and thanks for opportunity to test the bow!

I've had the bow for the last two weeks shooting full lenght vapor 500's which are made by gold tip with 175 gr. tip and 4" feathers. The arrow flew well out of the bow and surprisingly quick for a 37# @ 28" bow. I have a 29" draw, on my scale it came out to 39# @ 29". I really enjoyed having the opportunity to shoot this bow and I want to thank Chad for giving us a chance to use the bow as a pass around. Mr. Paul Mattson is up next, I will send the bow out tomorrow.

You should make a left handed shorty NAT for us split finger that draw 26" and like bows around 53 pounds at 26". It has to be that because of my arrow supply. Pretty much everything like a 42 pounder you know about.  Then put me first on the list, and the rest of you will just have to wait and wonder what happened to that bow.

I recieved the bow a couple of weeks ago, did some shooting with it.  Most of my arrows were over spined.  I had a few CX90's made up and they flew great.  The bow is fun to shoot, smooth drawing and did not stack at my 29" draw.

The address that I have is not reconized by the USPS.  I tried printing out a label and it comes up as undeliverable.  I even put it in google maps and came up with the same result.

Chad or Wes, Can I get another address.

Anyone ever get any information on where this bow is?

Us lefties finally get a chance at something like this and it goes M.I.A.  What a bummer.

It was lost but I got it back a couple weeks ago. I will be sending it back out this week to Ron. Sorry for the wait. Chad
