Hi all,
I've never used a trail camera before but was thinking of getting one, can you buy them so they will take photos or film with a flash or make sound so the trespassers don't know they are being filmed??
Thanks for your time and help.
Infrared flahes shouldnt be seen, but dont know about the sound-thing.
A friend of mine caught a couple of punk kids on his trail cam last summer during daylight hours. He called the County Sheriffs dept. and Officer confronted the kids and their parents (both single mothers) with pics he printed. Worked great, no problems since.
Last year, in spring, we got a guy trespassing with a big 5 point shed in his left hand.
Bowmania
I use them for tresspassers. Get infrared cameras and hide them well. Security boxes have not worked as the violators destroyed the camera inside the box.
I like the irregular shape of my Scoutguard 550 camo model for making it difficult to see. I've gotten several pictures of humans that had no idea the camera was there. It's very small and easy to hide.

Same here. Stopped a couple teenagers from sneaking on the property coon hunting at night during deer season because of the pictures printed out from my scoutguard.
I also use the SG550 and now the Covert CA3.0 even smaller camera with better camo/price for Security on the our land. They hide well, make no noise, you can see the RED leds light up/glow at dark no way around that unless you go to a higher priced black flash camera. If you set the camera to the side or up 10-12ft in a tree looking down the odds of it being seen are very low most people look straight headed when walking.
My nephews home was burglarized recently. He lives off the road, goes to work and returns home at the same time each day,an easy target for thieves.I recommended he get a good game camera to monitor his driveway.I'm planning on mounting mine on a pole and building a bird house as a cover to conceal it when I'm away. With the job situation in this country I think we'll see more home break ins in the future.I don't know if people are getting braver or more stupid.
If I were getting something soley for spotting humans, I'd go with a camera with "Black Flash Technology"
Traditional IR cams take pics and record videos in the dark, but have the tell tale red glow from the IR illuminators
It's obvious if you're looking at the camera as it takes a pic or worse if it's in video mode recording. The IR illuminators naturally stay lit as the video is recording.
The black flash technology doesn't have the red glow of traditional IR illuminators. It doesn't have any glow or visible light.
I believe Reconyx makes a camera with this technology.
I've caught a few humans doing their tricks on my game cameras . . . don't have the kids around when you pull up your photos as some shots may be on the embarrassing side.
Local lady had intruders entering her home stealing small amounts and eating her food. This hapened several times and it took her a while to realize what was going on as they took just a little at a time. She placed a camera inside her trash can and cuts a hole in the side. Got him!
IR cameras hung up about 15' in a tree pointing down OR if they are coming in daylight hours set the camera to take pictures only in daytime.
I caught the neighbors coming in right after I left the land.
They son on a dirt bike and dad on a 4wheeler. The kid must have saw the flash because he looked right at the camera. It was the first day with a camera out also.
I blew up the photos and placed them in their mail box. All the note with them said is there will not be a second warning!!!
NO problems.
I have read many articles of people using them to catch many people.
Some place two cameras one out in the open and one hidden taking photos of that one.
Some guy took his on every trip and placed it in his hotel room. MANY free stays when the pictures are showen.
One guy caught his kids stealing his change from a drawer.
Many uses for them.
I like the bird house idea for the driveway.
