Title: Quest for Turkeyzilla
Post by: coaster500 on May 08, 2011, 11:23:00 AM
I just got back from Idaho. I did a three day hunt east of Lewiston. There is some great hunting country there. I wish I had been able to make this hunt earlier as the birds had hen'ed up and though there were lot's of Long Beards they were not easy to call in. Bruce the guy I was hunting was the president of our chapter of the National Wild Turkey Federation and a world class call builder and caller but as any of us that have hunted turkeys knows sometimes you Hate turkeys  :)

We were scouting an area at a higher elevation looking for Turkey sign...

We found an area with sign and a 100 yard strip of old logging road that looked like a tom had been using, Here is the interesting thing in the 40ish year I've been hunting I have never in my life seen a turkey leave something like this behind. I did not get a chance at this bird but as I speak Bruce is sitting (he is on a mission now) what we believe is TURKEYZILLAS struting area...

The picture is with a 12 1/2" call... and no it's not a fluke as we found 7 more!!!

Has anyone ever seen anything like this? Bruce and I are 60ish and this was a first...

Has anyone ever??? This birds got to be 25 pounds plus, maybe 30 .. he may be a loaner as there was little other sign mixed in?

Hope this does not offend ...

Turkey hunting HAS GOT TO BE the most addictive and obsessive hunting on earth.

I would bet it is a hen dropping after she has been on the nest all day or longer. She is going to the road to dust and feed. They will have a big dropping like that when they are on the nest.

I'm going to agree with Mike on this one, It doesn't resemble a Gobbler or Jake dropping at all.

Good luck!!  :D
