Well guys I know I posted about a hybrid longbow the other day for my first custom purchase but....... Did some studying, talked to a good friend of mine who got me into traditional archery hunting, and decided to go with a T/D recurve instead. I narrowed it down to a Silvertip, a Robertson or a Morrison. With the Silvertip being favored from the get go because I shot his and loved it. Also Paul Shafer is a legend to me so I would like to support what he started. So I just got off the phone with Beth over at the shop and put my deposit down and started talking about options. I don't know what woods I want yet but I do know I want the 2 or 3 different woods with the antler bases and the horn tips. So if y'all want to throw yalls 2 cents in on Silvertip options or if you could show me some pictures of some Silvertips I would love to see some decked out or not I don't care let's see em'
Thanks,
Michael

I hear you man, Beth said 8 to 9 months and I know it's going to feel like 2 years..I just posted on the classifieds looking for a used one because I can't wait that long to get my hands one one and if I find a nice used one I will have 2 when mine comes in.. but I will post pictures of mine when it gets here so you can show yours then too if you havent already
I have one, kind of... I was talking to a friend about them (Schafer Silvertips) and he pulled out some limbs, said he hasn't used them and would sell them to me. I emailed Beth and found out how much a raiser was, and at the time couldn't swing it. So the guy I bought the limbs from also made me a raiser. He owns I think 4 Schafer Silvertips, and just mocked the other raiser to the best of his ability (and did AWESOME!!). I would like to buy a one piece recurve someday. I will post some pics of my bow if you would like to see it.
Let's see it
Michael,
Use the SEARCH function at the top of this page.....click on the word SEARCH. When that window opens up, type in Silvertip, Schafer Silvertip, Schafer bows, etc, then select the search to be in POW-WOW.
That will bring up a gazillion threads/pictures on Silvertips....you'll see some mighty nice bows.
i guess if you have to "settle", then settling on the mercedes/bmw/lexus of bows isn't a bad choice.
i bet you will really like it.
bill
Yea Bill I'm glad to hear you say that bc that's what I think about the Silvertips but I really was expecting alot more die hard Shafer guys on this site....But I'm exited about my decision.
I posted an idea about some wood combos on another tread talking about exotic combo ideas....check it out and tell me what you think please.
Michael
Ha! Bill hit it on the head, Shafer/Robertson/Morrison oh what a dilemma! The best answer is one of each... no make that two of each :)
I have 2 or 3 of each:) It doesn't help. You still want more.
Ok, this is the third time tonight that I have turned on my laptop to see if anybody has posted pics yet. C'mon. Threads like these just drive me crazy. Lol!! Silvertip is another bow that is on my must have list. Just haven't got very far down the list yet.
Congrats I have wanted a Silvertip for almost 20 years and should have mine in hopefully about 2 months
Charcoal riser checkered grip one of the last old school Camo limbs to come out of shop if not the last. Cape Buffalo tips FF and antler knobs

That bow looks tough. I gotta have one.
See next page under what creekwood did for me!
The raiser was made by a friend of mine. I hope to get a one piece made by Dave someday.
WOW thats huge...how do I make it smaller?
If ya go to Photobucket you can resize it
Mike, If I may make a suggestion, I would stick with the dymondwoods and not spend the extra money on exotics. The number one option to me is the checkered grip. DO NOT ORDER A TIP WITHOUT THE CHECKERED GRIP!!!! I have owned 4 Silvertips, some of them have had exotic vaneers and some have had the dymondwood matched limbs. I see absolutely no difference in performance, only cosmetics. Get the checkering and enjoy!!!!
Here ya go Jonathon...

Now you need to go back to your posting, click on the paper and pencil icon and remove the picture until you figure out how to post. I can help you if you want to PM me. I also see in your profile that you are an IT Tech, kind of embarassing isn't it. :)
Here is another for your viewing pleasure...

Michael,Pm Cacciatore and get Felix to send you pics or post of his two new Tips,YOU WILL BE IMPRESSED,UNREAL !
creekwood- HAHA yes it is a little embarrassing but the common thought about IT Techs is we are supposed to know EVERYTHING about computers and all programs. Yeah right haha. But thank you for doing that for me. I used imagelink.com (I think that's what its called) and that's the first time its really blown up the pics like that. What did you use?
Michael,
I have a Silvertip with bocate riser and vaneers that is a real good looking bow. The bocate is dark and very attractive. Also second the recommendaation on the checkered riser.
DB
Nice bows gentlemen..thanks for all the input and suggestions..keep em' coming.
Michael
Man those camo limbs are to cool.

Sorry, got a bunch of pics that wont come out. I've owned 6 Tips of all materials. The Dymondwood riser is the best performing. Exotics are truly just for show, but I do love 'em.
I agree with the checkering, for me its a must have . Im on the list again myself, I found a fantastic chunk of cocobolo that I'm sending to Dave. The bow is pretty plain other than that. I'll be putting snakeskins on, but under and on the limb bellys is just black glass, with phenolic tips. It is however a SIXTY SIX inch takedown recurve!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes, he is making me a SIXTY SIX FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!After years of begging!
Yornoc- What kind of quiver do you use on your Silvertips?
Personally, none.
I'm a backquiver/catquiver guy.
Nice looking bows. If I were ordering a Silver Tip I'd go for one with fabulous wood. Dymondwood is great stuff I'm sure, but I'm a sucker for nice figure. Cocobolo, bocote, macassar ebony, might not shoot any better but definitely easy on the eyes. :saywhat:
Yeah, me too.
What kind of quiver is on the bow on the bottom?
Talked to Beth today might be starting mine in about 3 weeks. very excited and very good people
There's nothing like your first silvertip,or the second and third and fourth. You got to love them.
Selway bolt on, that bow was second hand and came with it.
Here's a few I own/owned over the years...I'm down to four ;)

Ditto on the checkered grip!! I prefer Dymondwood as well...but it's all personal preference!
This is my go to Schafer...it is a 60" take-down with walnut Dymondwood riser and fiddle back maple limb veneers over lamboo cores. It has the scheckered grip, horn knocks and was built for fast flight.

That's a nice collection you have there Bob.
Michael
Ok, I know it has been asked, but what is the real difference between the non ff shafer's vs. the diamond wood? I absolutely love exotics, and it makes me sick to think that I might be giving up a noticeable bit of performance if I get an exotic wood. Everyone else seems not to have problems with the exotics. Why Shafer?
After owning about 20 Schafer's since 1988, I now prefer the fast-flight compatible models! And I never thought I would!
I had my first fastflight model built in 2007 while I was struggling with shoulder issues and target panic. I had the bow built at 56 lbs draw rather than the 70 I usually shot. I wanted to gain some umph I felt I was losing by dropping more than 15 lbs in draw weight. I also requested Dave use lamboo cores as I had heard they were somewhat faster.
When I got the bow, I put on an SBD D97 skinny string. First thing I noticed was how quiet the bow was. I only needed one set of cat whiskers per end rather than the two I had routinely used with Dacron to get the bow whisper quiet. With the brace height the same, I started tuning for arrows and found the exact same I had shot with my 70 lb bows flew flawlessly out of the 56 lber. I bare shaft tune my bows and these arrows were perfectly straight in flight and hit in the same group as fletched arrows! Same spine, same point weight, same everything! To me, that implies the same force is being exacted on the arrow from each of the bows shot...a Dacron bow at 70 lbs vs a FF bow at 56 lbs!!
Now I can't say for sure it was simply the FF string, the fact the string was skinny, the lamboo cores or less weight from the catwhisker set-up. More than likely it is a combination of all four. But because of these findings, I would prefer fastflight for all new Schafer's I get in the future!!
Wow!!! That is a noticeable difference in performance. I can see now that I need to be looking at the ff models. Thanks
This riser is Rosewood Dymonwood. It is a bow I traded for with Billy Shipp. The limbs on that one are Elm.
The veneers below are Myrtle. The ones that have been moistened to show the wood grain are being used on my Silvertip TD that is to arrive any day. I was hoping it to be here the last half of April but it hasn't arrived yet.
The riser will be Rosewood Dymonwood (for FF capability) with Macassar Ebony flares. The limbs will be tipped with rough elk antler. The bow will be 58", 52-54#@28",tillered for 3 under, and a lefty of course. The grip will be medium and be checkered as per the Schafer standard.
I went back and forth on other options but decided to keep it a bit more simple. I thought about drilling for a cushion springy rest, antler around limb bolts, and antler or horn on window face.
I'm glad I paid for more than 50% of the bow back in August! It doesn't pain me so much to finish it as soon as the call comes in that it is ready to ship.

Froggy.Do you have the bow pics that I bought from you.If so,please post them.they are great.
Get the grip checkered for sure. I have a walnut dymondwood riser with the brown camo limbs. Fantastic shooting bows!!!
Randy
Those lams are unbelieveable. Can't wait........
Whoops, the limbs on Billy's old bow are Russian Olive not elm.
