Title: simmons tiger shark vs. woodsman elite - need opinions
Post by: RUTANDSTRUT on May 03, 2011, 09:17:00 AM
i am shooting a pittsley predator at 44#@26".  my arrows have a total weight of 455 grains.  i am looking for a good combo of broadhead for penetration and good blood trails with this lighter setup.  i kind of decided to use either the tiger shark or woodsman elite in 175 gr models.  which one do you think will penetrate better and put more blood on the ground (mainly on big whitetails).  any suggestions or opinions are appreciated, thanks in advance.

I just bought 175 grain Tiger Sharks and they are impressive looking heads.  Hunting turkey with them now.  I have shot woodsmens in the past and had trouble with the tips curling when bone or something hard was hit; so my vote is Simmons.

I have been hunting with the Simmons Land Sharks for a year now. They leave a great blood trail. I have taken two deer, a hog and a turkey with them. I have never shot an animal with a Woodsman so I can't give you a comparison. I'm shooting a ThunderChild 49# and CE 150's.

He said the Woodsman Elite not the regular woodsman. You will not have a problem with the tip curling on the Elite. The 175gr. is also non-vented and machined from one piece of steel. You will not be sorry with the Elite.

I think the Woodsman broadhead will be easier to sharpen. I've never been able to sharpen the concave shape of a Simmons.

Night Wing; I read on here several others say the concave edge was hard to sharpen so I bought Simmons Steelmaster sharpener with my broadheads and I had my first head shaving hair in just a few minutes.  I'm no pro at sharpening but it made it very easy.

I would recomend the woodsman elite as it is a long and lean design but is a multiblade head so you get the penetration of a narrow 2 blade with the bloodtrail of a 3 blade

there was a thread on here not to long ago with pics of the holes simmons heads left...ive never used one but the holes in the critters look much bigger than what my woodsmans leave...

im not going to change cuz i love what woodsmans have done to the critters ive shot with them but i am impressed with the simmons...m2cw

I agree with Barry. Go buy both and hunt with them.  I'm a Simmons nut,but I plan on doing the same thing this season.  I have some 175 grain VPAs and will be purchasing the 175 tiger sharks.  Two great heads for sure.  First deer that I shot with a wooden arrow had a glue-on tiger shark on the business end.  Both heads will be in my arrowmaster quiver this season ( 4 tiger sharks & three VPAs).

I heard something about the Elites being shaving sharp right out of the pack now...and having the pyrimid tip on them already too... Supposed to be being sharpened by some east coast sharpening company...

Ah, but what do I know?   :p

The big non-vented Woodsman Elites are a tough broadhead to beat.  I think any sharp head will work, but the WW have always shot with uncanny accuracy for me.  The 175 grain non-vented Elites I have are also silent in flight.

The simmons look like a great head, but a VPA made broadhead sharpened by KME... no brainer there
