I picked up a nice Bill Stewart MCTD Recurve/Longbow yesterday. The bow has 62", 45#@28" Recurve limbs and 68", 60#@28" Longbow limbs. I'll have to trade the Longbow limbs for a good bit lighter set of MCTD Longbow limbs, if I intend to shoot it. Below is a pic of the bow.

Great bows ... I have shot some nice critters with mine. Bill was a very talented and innovative bowyer. Enjoy ....
Best to ya, Ken
Ken,
Thanks! I previously owned an MCTD recurve built by Mr. Stewart. It was 56" and 53#@28". It was more bow than I could handle. I've been looking for one ever since. They don't show up in the classifieds very often. This is the only one I've seen with 62", 45#@28" recurve limbs since I sold mine. I'm happy to get it.
Bill
I've been shooting one of Bill's longbows since 1994. Great shooting bow.
Sam,
Do you know anyone that has a set of longbow limbs in the 45-47#@28" range that might want to trade them for a set of 60#@28" limbs? :)
Bill
You lucky fella Bill.....good luck with it. I said it before....Your a bow buying dude...
Bill, do you still have that multi-cam bow made by Roy Coursey, one of Mr. Stewart's pupils?
Bill Stewart bows have a loyal following here in the Northwest and it's tougher and tougher to find someone willing to part with one.
That's a fine looking bow! I like the design of those limbs too, they've got 'Serious Shooter' written all over them. Congrats Bill!

Lon,
No, I sold the bow Roy built for me. It came out at 53#@28" and was too heavy for me.
Bill
I went turkey hunting Saturday and when I got home my wife had our two young granddaughters at the house. So, I wasn't able to make it to The Archery Shop Saturday to pick up my Bill Stewart MCTD. I'll be going to The Archery Shop during lunch today, can you say extended lunch (?), to pick it up! :)
Bill
Sorry Bill, no I don't.
Mine isn't a takedown.
Bill or another! Can u confirm that both sets of limbs work off the same raiser? Was it the same for all his TD multicams or did he also produce a longbow raiser proper?
Wow those multicam limbs look like the Black Swan Wave limbs.

Mr. Stewart has been dead 5 0r 6 years. I believe the Black Swan limbs look somewhat like the MCTD limbs.

Paul,
I haven't tried the longbow on the riser, yet. The riser that came with the bow is the 18" recurve riser that Mr. Stewart built. Below is a pic that shows the 14" and 18" recurve riser as well as the longer, maybe 24", longbow riser. The limb angles for the 18" recurve and the 24" longbow riser appear to be the same or at least very nearly the same.

If you go to the following link, it will take you to Mr. Stewart's website. It is still active even though he died 5 or 6 years ago, or so.

After receiving the bow and reading the literature that accompanied it, I've concluded that the longer riser was Mr. Stewart's Target bow riser. The recurve and longbow hunter MCTD bows were both based on the 14" and 18" risers in the pic above. Actually, the 18" riser measures 19-1/8" if it's measured from tip to tip. However, if I measure from one half moon to the other on each of the plastic pieces on either end, it measures 18"!
Bill
The longbow limbs on the 18" recurve limbs yielded a 68" bow nock to nock as measured along the belly of the limbs and riser. It would have been a longer bow with the longer longbow riser. I have been offered a set of 66", 47#@28" MCTD longbow limbs which I think I'll be buying.
Bill
I'm getting ready to head to lunch. While I'm out, I'll be sending a MO for the set of Bill Stewart MCTD Longbow limbs, 66", 47#@28", I was offered. :)
Bill
Bill ... Glad you found some lighter weight LB limbs. I had found a lighter set for your draw but your limbs were too heavy for my hunting partner so he didn't want to part with them. His limbs are 50# and have the older single pin design...
Best to ya, Ken
Ken,
Thanks! The limbs I found are the same design as the bow and limb combo I have. I'm excited to find a set of limbs that are within my draw range. I didn't expect to find them that quickly.
Bill
The owner of The Archery Shop put a Big Jim 59" string on my MCTD recurve. I shot it about 4 times the day I picked it up. I only shot 4 shots because I didn't remember to take my shooting glove with me when I went to work that morning. My fingers just can't handle shooting a bow with bare fingers on the string.
This past Saturday I shot it quite a bit more. Budro added some string silencers for me and I borrowed three of His Grizzly Stik Sitkas to shoot to see how the sound was. It was very quiet shooting the Sitkas and shot the arrows like darts even with only a 45#@28" draw weight. It is a great shooting bow.
Bill
I've sold and shipped the 68", 60#@28" MCTD longbow limbs. And I've purchased a set of 66", 47#@28" MCTD longbow limbs. I shot the bow with the limbs several weeks ago. They, too, love the Alaska Bowhunting Supply Grizzly Stik Sitka arrows. This is going to be a great shooting bow for hunting and 3-D.
Bill
I haven't posted on this thread in about 7 weeks. In the interim, I've received the 66", 47#@28 longbow limbs, shipped the riser and recurve and longbow limbs to Chuck at Two Tracks. Chuck sealed the crack on the lower limb of the recurve set of limbs, installed Black Micarta limb bolt pads on both sets of limbs and refinished the limbs. I received the limbs last week and shot both sets last Saturday at The Archery Shop.
I'm shooting my 29" BOP Alaska Bowhunting Supply Grizzlystik Sitka arrows out of both sets of limbs. The 62", 45#@28" recurve are quite fast, dead in the hand and quiet. The 66", 47#@28" longbow limbs aren't quite as fast as the recurve limbs, are super smooth, ultra quiet and more accurate shooting for me on a consistent basis.
I might note that I have put any silencing material on the limbs as of yet and they both are quiet, the longbow limbs even more so than the recurve limbs.
Chuck,
Thanks for the excellent craftsmanship you did on the limbs!
Bill
You are more than welcome Bill, I really enjoyed working on the bow as it was my first multi-cam. I echo what you say, smooth, quiet and pretty darn fast for a mid-40's bow. That little project was nearly respnsible for me picking up a Stewart MCTD this past weekend. They are nice shooting bows.
Thanks again Bill,
Chuck
Couldn't resist Bill....my original 56". I had the riser darkened to offset the Yew limbs. 58# at 27", built in '93. Many deer have fallen to this bow.

Not to change the subject but just wondering how does roy coursey's recurve shoot? I have one of his Elpuma's and its a great longbow.
Bill Had one but it grew to heavy I think, I will bump this up so he can see it.
I had one built by Roy. It was too heavy for me at 53#@28". I also had a 56", 53#@28" MCTD built by Mr. Stewart. They were both great shooting bows, just too heavy for my old shoulders.
Joe,
That's a sharp looking bow. I may have to sand my riser down and stain it.
Bill
Wildman. I believe you might be mistaken about Bill passing away. I am in my camp in Colorado and a friend from Aztec,NM has a cabin nearby. We were just talking about Mister Stewart a few days ago. He is living in Aztec and goes to the same church as my friend.
Mr. Kissner,
No sir, Bill Stewart the bowyer did pass away at least 4 or 5 years ago. His website is still active, however, the links are inactive. His son ran the business long enough to ship out bows and/or complete and ship out bows for customers in waiting at the time of his passing away. Mr. Stewart lived in Yakima, WA.
Bill
Mr. Kissner,
Go to the following thread and you will see that Mr. Stewart the bowyer did pass away.

Mr. Kissner,
You have a PM.
Bill
Below is a link to a thread containing some pics of the MCTD Roy Coursey of Cook's Mountain Archery built for me. Now that I re-read the thread I don't know why I got rid of that bow. It wasn't 53#@28", it was 49#@28". The only way it could have been better for me is if I had Roy build it 62" and 45-47#@28". It was surely a beautiful and great shooting bow.

Thanks for the information Wildman. I am mistaken. I will talk again with my friend from Aztec this coming weekend. He was telling earlier me about A Bill Stewart that lived in his town that used to be a bowyer. I just assumed it was THE Bill Stewart. Sorry for the misinformation.
I took my 62", 45#@28" Stewart MCTD recurve to The Archery Shop today and shot it through the chrony. It shot my 485 gr Grizzlystik Sitka arrows at an average of 177 fps. That's not too bad for 10.8 gpp arrows at my 28" draw length.
