I have a new to me Morrison Shawnee A riser with D Dakota limbs. I ordered a string for it at 57" and it braces on the low end at a height of 8". Any idea how much longer I need to go on the string to get it in the 6.75-7.25" range?
Thanks in advance.

Gotta be a string maker out there that could get me in the ballpark, need to get a string so I can shoot this beauty!

House,
Call Bob. Measure the string you ordered. Are you sure it is 57". Your bow should be a 60" amo with that riser/limb combo so with the normal rule of thumb a 57" string should be the ticket, but check with Bob.

I had the same issue. I had to measure the bow from N-N to get the correct length, my Shawnee is 62" I think my string needed to be 59.5 to give me the flexabilty to adjust brace where i needed it to be.
My Morrison's are usually 2" under amo.
My 62-inch Shawnee (same riser as yours, two inch longer limbs) takes a 58 1/2-inch string. Yields a 7 inch brace height. Your string should work if it is truly 57 inches long. I'm betting it's quite a bit shorter than that.
Just to help anyone else out there who may experience the same situation. I spoke with Bob on the phone and he said that he has seen this before with some of the limbs that are a little older. He said that it took a few years for the length of the limbs to "settle" to what they are currently, which by the way a 57" string is fine for, with an A riser and D limbs. But Bob said that some of the earlier Shawnee Dakota limbs needed a string a half to 3/4" longer. No worries on my end, I'm just going to order one at 57 1/2" and shoot the heck out of it! Just wanted to mention that the string I ordered was from "Oliverstacy" aka Josh Sowerby and it is an awesome string and exactly the 57" that I ordered. The other strings I ordered from him for other bows fit and function perfect.
