Title: String Twisting and practice tips
Post by: jamesh76 on April 25, 2011, 06:07:00 PM
I have been practicing twisting strings. (2 bundle flemish) I made one up today that looked great however, when I was done I put one end loop over a nail and pulled on it snugly from the other end of the string. I noticed that the end on the nail began to untwist itself end where you splice the 2 budles togather after making the loop. Any ideas of what went wrong here? I am thinking that I may have twisted the bundles the wrong direction?

Thanks,
James

That's what it sounds like, one bundle twisted one way and the second was twisted the other way.

It may seem counterintuitive if you think too much about it, but both eyes need to be twisted exactly the same way.
Best advice: don't think about them, just do them both the same.

Yep, twisted the whole body the wrong way.

No harm, doesn't take much pressure to unravel, does it? Just take it all apart James, and start over! You'll get it, and look out, a new craft!

No, It did not take much at all. Just a pretty hard pull and here it came. I figured that I did twist it the wrong way.

Good learning experiance there.

Thanks

with the ends always facing right,i twist clockwise and pass under and away, when i make the loops,i keep the ends to the right ,twist clockwise and pass under and awaywhen i do the other end,i flake the string in the other direction, keeping the ends again to my right and repeattwisting clockwise ond roping under and away.

Now that I got that figured out now I got to work on the cabling.

Proper backtwist will fix that.
