well i am setting down the flintlock in favor of the longbow for turkeys this year as i have good friends who i know would rather hunt them with bow and i would like to commit to trying bow only this spring. i KNOW how hard it will be as i am not using a blind and i'm hunting a mountain that will be difficult at best! there are MANY bords there and i know the area well just need a little bit of luck! at different times i will be hunting with 3Feathers, Adirondackman, Bowspirit and hopefully Ron W and Kat. what i do know is any day spent on that mountain with friends and bow in hand is a GREAT time! will post many pic's when season gets here.
Good luck! It's definitely a challenge but worth it. Was out this morning and never heard a thing but it was good to be out. First time in 3 years.
Have fun guys.Good luck,kill a big one.
I'm with ya brother , good luck :archer2:
Good luck Ken.
Find yourself a "strutt-zone" Brother!!!!!
(The rest is easy, I'll talk ya through it...)
hey bro how can i go wrong, i'm using Skippers arrows that ya gave me!!!
Never went turkey hunting but once and that was with a shotgun. Got lucky and killed a nice tom with a wide 10 in. beard no calling or even a blind , I just set down behind a brushy cow paster fence where I had been seeing turkeys and one came out (just dumb luck ) . I would love to try it with my bow but I dont know a darn thing about turkey hunting , I just know we have ALOT of birds on our land .Good luck on your hunt
Good luck Ken & all. If you want any company maybe we can find a day that works for both of us.
Dan
Good luck .. I'm heading out this week .. that is if work premits!
Ken:
I have never Turkey hunted, but would like to try. Maybe you could give me some pointers.
Ken
Good luck, Once you hunt them with a bow its very hard to go back to the shotgun.
You mean there is another way besides a bow?
We finally had a perfect turkey hunting weather wise. On the property with me was one guy with a shotgun. With my Robertson longbow, I at least got to do some shooting, I shot numerous gopher mounds about the size of a turkey's vitals. the turkeys that have been there all winter must have shifted there pattern not a sign of them anywhere. After the rain I will check out another area nearby, they have to be somewhere. If not, with a bow I can at least shoot some more gopher mounds.
God Luck Ken! The birds are there, you just have to figure out how to get a shot.
Good Luck
I'm going to try for one with my stick bow next month. However, I'm bringing my wheelie if I get frustrated, and my shotgun if I get really desperate. Don't think less of me, I'm still new! :p
I will be out as well. My father owns a farm and I have been visiting it most of my life. Hunted it for the second time last year. I have seen burds there in the past. Last year while whitetail hunting, I even called three in.
So like you, I need some sucess. Sucess to you!
I may even ride my bike to the farm. I wonder if RonW will ride his? ((:

I've been hunting turkey since the beginning of April without a blind. Its very hard but the challenge is just awesome. The reward will be great. Might not happen this year but I've had a blast hunting!
I like my DB blind :knothead:
Turkey season closed here yesterday. Over the course of the season I had three legitimate chances at legal birds. Saw a lot of hens, some as close as 8 yards (from a ground blind and a pop-up.)
Learned several things, first, I need a bigger blind. Three times I called legal toms into range but couldn't shoot because of the dimensions of the pop-up.
Second, clean out the inside of the blind of sticks, pine needles, extra gear, etc. Third, hunt as late into the morning as legal, some toms will be looking for hens after 11 am or so.These Osceola toms come in quiet most of the time.
Good luck. I'm already planning my spring 2012 attack!
Find a hot "strutt-zone" yet Brother???
I've got vacation the week before Memorial Day weekend! (if they don't cancle it) I've got the Grizzly all ready to go!!!
Commit and go for it. Have found great reward in getting close and not scoring even it was the same result all season.
Good luck man.
good luck! i hunted when i could but couldnt score this season. aybe next time right?
allways the next time! i'm looking forward to it and ya never know!
Good luck Ken! I'm going into my 4th season chasing turkeys with trad bows! Maybe this year i'll connect! It's tough hunting them without a blind but I find it more fun and challenging!
I had to stop the car for a pair of turkeys on my road this morning on the way to work. I looked towards the cornfield they were heading to & it looked like a turkey convention! One big boy was in full strut, he looked mighty healthy.
Scharms, they must have migrated to your area from down here. Been sitting in cold rainy windy weather and they ain't a bit interested in breeding on my farm. :goldtooth:
So far... Things are looking GOOD Brother!!!!!
Good luck Ken It can be done without a blind . I took my bird today without one.
Hi Bro,
Is that mountain still above water? We've had two tornados real close in the past three days. My land I'd pretty much under h2o. Wish you luck Ken.
Good luck to ya Ken.
I'll be out with my longbow and no blind trying to kill one. I know it can be done Ken, Good Luck to you and I'm sorry I missed your stump shoot.
Hope the weather is good to you.
Even the fish here in western Ky are heading for high ground.
Best of luck!
Will be leaving for PA in less than 24hrs. Can't wait. Then the game is on with bow only in NY starting Sunday. Hopefully we will see some pics from you Ken & all the NY gangers starting sun morning. Good luck.

Good Luck to My Brothers!!!!! Sending smoke for a Good Day!!!
Say "Hi" to John for me, will ya? Let me know how you guys make out!!!!!
Good luck I hope you get into them. I know I'll be after them on monday.
good luck Ken!
looking like a good day tommorow, they were gobbling by my house today and walked up on a longbeard strutting in the field.
Good luck to you. I thought my season was over after my three day draw hunt, but I found I have access to some excellent private property.
Fingers crossed...
Hey Ken, Good luck! I am confident that you will get one if you get a shot. If your shooting as good as you were at the stump shoot, that is!!! I may take a little walk in the morning. But I have a ton of work to do on the house later in the morning. Take a bunch of pics.
Good Luck Ken!
Cheers Ken,
Hope you and John get into them!
heading to bed shortly, can't wait to drop the string on a long beard!!!
Well.......or you still in bed? :biglaugh: I never heard or saw a thing!
AWESOME AWESOME day but the birds just would not take that EXTRA step!!!! nothing on the top of the mountain so headed down around 9:30. got over to my favorite ridge, set up and BAM we were in to 2 longbeards and a jake! they would not come down off the high ridge but watched them strut and i listned to them gobble for a half hour! moved 100 yards let things quiet down, hit the call an BAM we were in to another one! John called him everywhere but my lap which is what i need! i watched the jake strut for around 40 minutes ALL around me and 20 yards from john as he walked off with hens!!!! what a amazing day!!!!!!!!!!!!!! now i can't hunt there for THREE WEEKS due to comittments!!!! i will GLADLY direct ya where to go if someone has the time to hunt!!!!!

Sounds like a great day Ken
Just an update for some. Ed Bielejec who some of you have met at the stump shoot & the Muzzy is getting cleaned up. His property was hit by the tornado Thursday. No one was hurt & the house is OK, but lots of tree damage & wires down. The tornado bounced & luckily skipped over his structures. Happened @ 5 AM. Others right their had more damage but nobody injured. Just thought some of you folks might want to know.
