Title: Recurve Stringer for a longbow?
Post by: bsoper on April 24, 2011, 03:04:00 AM
I have a recurve stringer. It has a nylon pocket and a rubber pressure pad thingy. Will it work with a long bow as well, or is there a different kind of stringer for a longbow?

I use that type on longbows without any issues. I used to use the ones with two pockets but I almost had one come out of the pocket and hit me in the face one day, so I have not used one like that since.

I use the same pocket-type stringer for my recurve and longbow with no problems.  I have a friend who used the type with the rubber pad and when he stressed the limbs the pad slid down the limb rapidly and he nearly got thwacked.  Whatever you use, be careful.

I agree, the type with the rubber gripper can be used on a longbow with not problem at all.

i really like those webbing type stringers (they're fairly easy to make).  they work equally well for recurve or longbow, but 99.99% of the time i just push-pull to brace most any stickbow.

Have one of those myself. Not as sure IMO as the double pouch which I make myself. PM for more if interested.

I made a "double pouch" stringer, but not in the way you guys are expecting.  I bought a Selway longbow stringer and a Selway recurve stringer. I cut off the longbow pouch along with 18-24" of cord and tied it onto the recurve stringer.  Now I have a stringer with one rubber block and two pouches, one pouch for whichever type of bow I want to shoot.
