Nice Hog I'd be happy too, congrats. :clapper: :clapper: :clapper:
I would too where that hog is concerned . other than that I don't know LOL all my moms side is from west Texas
Good looking hogs. Where in West Texas are you hunting? It's been acouple of years since I killed a hog in Texas. I did take a javelina in South Texas back in January. Love stalking those javvies through the cactus and mesquite.
Very nice! Only got to hunt once when I lived there. Sure do miss it though!!! Thanks for sharing!
You definately believe in holding out for a "Keeper" Those are a pair of terrific Hogs! Keep up the good work.
Near Coleman, TX
Cool Hogs SHOOTO8S! What's your setup? ....Did the arrows hit shoulder(?) on each.
Nice Hog Rod. Coleman's a good very good area as your success illustrates.
2010 Hog....41# 21"DAS, 135 Abowyer w/75 gr steel insert and CX 100 shaft
2011.......40# Tradtech Titan w/40# limbs , 135 Abowyer head and Beman shaft
No both were shot right behind the shoulder....Mike Westvang taught me where to shoot hogs :)
Rod,
Those are some nice trophy sized hogs. My friend shot a huge boar this past deer season at our deer lease in Goliad, Texas. There are some big one's running around, but they aren't dumb and that's why they are that big. We do shoot plenty of bar-b-que sized ones anyway and they taste really good.
Congratulations again and with light equipment to boot. I shoot about 49@29" and and it does the trick as long as I do my part too.

I love seeing this. I'm taking my soon to be 8 year old for his first hunt, and my first out of state hunt down in TX this fall. He's going to get really excited to see these pigs. Thank you for sharing.
Geez Rod, you'd think you'd be a little happier.... :goldtooth:
Lovely piles of pork there, good job Brother!
Great hogs Rod! Score two for the girly bows! (That's just a joke of course) :D
Congratulations on a pair of great looking hogs! Proof that a skilled bowman can do a lot of damage with lighter weight bows! Thanks for sharing your pictures.

Those Abowyer's put quite the hole in that piggy! Do I smell bbq???
Congratulations Rod :clapper:
There are big ol' good 'uns and good ol' big 'uns, and that hog is both.
  :clapper:
u da man!
Way to go sir!
That is a big boy... Congrats...
Dang Rod! This is the second year in a row. Save those smaller ones for seed stock and hold out for a decent-sized hog next time! :clapper:
 Nice ones! Good shooting!
Nice hogs!!! :clapper:
Roy Scheider said it best "I think you're going to need a bigger boat...or something"! Nice Hog!!
Rod, that's only about an hour from me. Is that a private ranch by invite only or is it available for something like a two or three day hunt for a fee? By the way, really nice hog.
I hunt just north of you at 283 & 36.
Lots of targets running around!
Looks like Ham for Easter! Nice job
WOW!!!
Now that's the kinda pigs I want to hunt. BIG, GNARLY porkers like that is exactly what comes to my mind when I think about what it's gotta be like when on the perfect hog hunt.
Did you take it in an area where the public can hunt or is it private land or a hunting lodge? Are there lots of places that have hogs like that with public access in Texas? Gotta be more than in Florida. Private hunting land down here is about as scarce as hens teeth. You either pay BIG BUCKS for a lease or pay an outfitter every time you want to hunt. Neither one of those is an option for me. I never dreamed it would be this difficult to hunt hogs down here in South Florida. Please tell me Texas is easier to find good hog hunting land.
Thanks for the pics and knowing that us low draw weight fellas don't have to hang our heads with our bows when chasing those monster porkers.

Good pigs, eh.
Nice hogs
Congrats very nice hogs. How did you hunt them?
Rod was hunting with a friend on his lease. Not much in the way of public land to hunt in Texas. There are some areas and with scouting and diligence you can do well but the vast majority is private.
On another note that boy takes coaching well. We worked here at the house on where to shoot a big pig and dang if he didn't nail em two years in a row.
Mike
Nice hogs
Well so much for hunting Texas.
You know this is to the point where I don't think I'm gonna try anymore. Been trying to find land for 2 years and haven't hunted 1 time. I'm just gonna shoot targets from now on.

Nice hogs Rod, and some people say you need a heavy bow to kill a big hog! You have proven again that if you can hit where you want to hit, you do not need all the poundage!
Hey, Not bad for a 3-under, gap shootin target archer! :) :)
Nice hogs, Rod! I want sooooo bad to go hog hunting someday! We don't have any around here. Probably for the best though.
Don't worry about what others have said about not smiling for pics. I seldom do either but that don't mean I ain't happy!
I heard about em......now I've seem them.
Great job Rod!!! :clapper:
Them hogs would be REALLY, REALLY mad if they knew they were killed with forty pound bows! :D
Good job Rod!
Nice hogs Rod. I'm heading out to miss in a week or so. If you are gonna be around, I'd love to leave a little early and swing by and see ya on my way. Don
Rod is modest, he made a heck of a shot. Stalked the hog on the ground and shot it running at a fair distance after it spotted us and was running straight down the trail where I was waiting and watching from at a distance. The hog was heading straight for me and closing fast and I was hunting for a tree with out a lot of thorns. The hog had previously spotted one of us and started to leave but changed his mind shook his head came back and came crashing down the trail I was waiting and watching from. Rod smoked him and he peeled off the trail after taking the arrow. I was pretty impressed and relieved.
I LOVE west Texas!
I was down there for a hog hunt a few years ago, and ran into this guy who was a hunting guide. He said he could take me out hunting and kill em with a knife. Then I realized he probably wasn't born with that scar up the side of his face, and ask how he got that. He said "that's what makes it so exciting". "You just jump on em' and stick em', but don't get your face too close to the front".
.....
I almost went... But then I remembered, I had spent all my money on traditional archery equipment, so I could shoot them from a safe(er) distance. :archer: :archer2:
Nice Hogs.
Congrats Rod! :clapper:
Thanks guys!
HB3.... a feller wouldn't be much of a guest, if he let a hog eat the host! :biglaugh: Thanks again for a great couple days... I do love west Texas!
batman....your more than welcome anytime...trouble is I've got clinics every weekend until the end of May, so give me a call, when you know what day your coming through.
Ohhh BTW....for the record, I'm not advocating light draw weight bows for big pigs.Ive always believed in shooting as much weight as you can maintain absolute control over...problem is my shoulders wont tolerate much, so I try to maximize accuracy on game.
realy nice hogs rod & i totaly agree about draw weight 55# is all i can handle & its plenty ,just wished i could shoot like you :notworthy:
Nice ones!!!
Great pics and story Rod. Conrats on a great shot, and a running shot at that ! Also a case history on a properly tuned setup and what a 40lb setup can do with perfect arrow flight.
Vittles!! Nice Shootin'!
I do believe that ole Rod is a hogs worst nightmare!
LOL..
Rank beginner compared to a real hog slayer, like yourself Pat !
Good to see ya out and about..
Nice pigs, both of them.
Thats one big piggy,congrats!
