Title: Stumping shooting in near Bellevue, Washington State?
Post by: Yeoman Bowman on April 19, 2011, 11:23:00 AM
Howdy,

Does anyone know a good place to go stump shooting on public land in Washington State? Specific directions / locations would be greatly appreciated.

I live in Bellevue, WA & am looking for a place close by to get out in the woods. It seems to be nothing but suburbs as far as the eye can see.

Thanks to all.

Yeoman.... used to be fantastic up along Tinkham Rd. on I90, but gun shooters were getting bullets down on the road and two years back the state closed the whole I90 corridor to "shooting".  Of course, bows got thrown in.  I'm still looking for a spot as good.  Tried some up on Stevens Pass last summer, OK, but not great.  Maybe we could do some scouting together this summer?   Give me a direct email if you want to get together:

Lots of land just up the I 90 ... you can take just about any exit after North Bend and find public or timber company land. They did some thinning logging on state land off exit 45 last year and there are lots of stumps. Also exit 47

You can also find some areas just off hwy 18 heading south from I-90 near the Raging River. Most roads there are gated so just park and walk in ...

Most of I-90 is now a no gun shooting zone and is posted as such.

I'd try Ft. Lewis. They allow hunting and other recreational activities so I don't know why they wouldn't allow stump shooting. It's all handled through their Northwest Adventure Center at (253)967-6263.

Or just come over here. 'Cept we have more rocks than stumps.

Thanks for all the info.

Dick in Seattle, that sounds great. I'd enjoy a day wandering about, scoping out some places to shoot.

I'll send you an email.

Elkken,

Do you know the road name or directions to the public land stump spot off exit 45? It sounds like a likely spot.

Paddymac,

That is news to me. I didn't even know the public could get onto Ft. Lewis. DOH! I need to get out more. I'll give them a call & let you all know what they say. Thanks for the tip!

I googled Twisp to see where it is & it looks nice. Out in the country. Very peaceful. And far from Seattle.

Thanks again to all.

There are some good options west of you both on the Kitsap and Olympic peninsulas.

PaddyMac: Do they let you hunt those cotton tails? They have a long season and it's 5/day from Sept-March.

your living in the best stump shooting state of all. I drive a truck all over the country and always carry a bow (or 2) coming across I-90 I just pull off in one of those truck pull out areas dive into the woods and have a blast. For people who have never done this. wash woods are full of old rotten cedar stumps and logs. It is definatly a target rich enviroment.

Northwest Bowhunter, yeah, they do. You have to take a little orientation course, but once you do that, it's just a check in and check out thing.
