I currently use a bear weather rest on both my bows. I'm wanting to set one up for shooting off the shelf so I will be eligible for some shoots(like the NCTAC at Hickory) What are the rules and guidelines for installing shelf material?
Use a side plate that is as thin as possible to keep your bow as close to center shot as possible (the calf hair plate which is available from most trad shops is one that I use). There are many other options for the bottom I use a velcro button on my bow because it wears well. I glue em down with weldwood contact cement.
I am not sure of any other rules (so to speak) but I am sure if there are other ways, the rest of the guys will help out.(little pun here)
Shoot straight
I have a mink fur strike plate and shelf pad from Jeremy a sponsor here. It is very thin and keeps my bow as close to riser cut as it can be. It's slicker than snot and wears like iron.
One thing to be aware of is the shelf on your bow. If it's flat you will need to build it up a little with a piece of leather underneath the shelf material. If it's radius'd already your good to go.
