Title: Moab speed
Post by: Camp III on April 14, 2011, 06:06:00 PM
Are the Moabs fast because of the shorter brace height or is it the design of the bow? It seems everybody says they are fast. I thinking about ordering one.

I own a Thunder Stick Mag and that zips arrows pretty fast. I've never chronoed mine but to me a quiet bow is more important than speed. That being said I'd also like to say that I've never seen a MOAB except in pictures here on Trad Gang so I can't speak for that bow except the ones I've seen pictures of look mighty fine. I'd like to shoot a MOAB one day but for now my TS Mag is my favorite bow I've shot.

I shot my 62" MOAB through a chronograph a couple of months ago, and it showed 190fps.  I'm not a speed freak or anything, but that was the number.  My MOAB is 48@30, and I draw 31".  I was shooting a GT55/75 full length with a 125gr. field tip.

I picked one up here recently and I run all my bows through the chrono because I do like to end up around 180fps on my hunting setups out of each individual bow. That way I can grab any bow I want and my brain is wired in. Pound for pound, same arrow on the same day in the same shooting session, the MOAB is 3fps faster than the Black Swan Hybrid I had. It shoots 182fps at 11grs per pound, the Swan 179fps. Amazingly, pretty much all the bows I have tried to date shoot within a few fps of each other with the same weight arrow but one. That bow is my Dalaa with Borders Hex5 limbs, it whips everything by 10 to 15 fps.

I've been through a bunch of 1-piece longbows, and I'd settled into the Morrison Cougar and Dakota as my favorites... But...

Then I tried a MOAB... and then another... and another... Ordered one from Jim... and then ordered another one from Jim...  I am down to the two I ordered from Jim and all but one of my Cougars and Dakotas have left the nest...

Fantastic bow, smooth, quiet, and plenty of performance!  I've taken a Racoon, and several squirrels and rabbits with them.  Got blanked at Solana this past New Years with my 62# MOAB... Not the bows fault at all just the "Texas boogy" x2...

I have been wanting a MOAB for a LONG time.    Every time I see pics of them it makes me want to order one.

Please post more pics if you have them.  I love MOABS too and would be interested in any and all the information the thread started asked about.

My other....five bows hang on the rack and cast disparaging looks my way as I grab the MOAB and head out for a hunt.

Jim has a winner with this design.

I recently bought one that was a bit heavy for me.  Sold it within a couple days and bought another one at my weight last week.  It's on the way now from IN.  Can't wait to receive it and start shootin it.

Best of luck with your search to find one.
