Title: Suggestions for 63# @ 31"
Post by: GraniteStater on April 14, 2011, 10:55:00 AM
If you owned a black widow (psa 62") and drew 31" @ 63# do you think you could make full length (32") CE 250 heratige shafts fly from it?

Or would I have to go 350 at full length?  I'd like to use the 100 grain brass inserts and not overly concerned about total point weight.  Maybe keep it around 250 total.

I hope I've posted this in the right forum, I will check a bit more to find out where I've seen these types of posts.

I have a 64" psa 61#@28 draw to 30" for 65#. Shoot CE 250 cut to 31" 100gr brass and 200gr head, and they fly great. Tried the 350 and always showed to stiff for me.

I shot 62# @ 31" out of one of my own 64" recurves.I really like the Arrow Dynamic Trads.

I also draw my recurves to 31" and my past-center cut bows in the low 60's have to have the 350's.  Heritage shafts actually finish closer to 33" and I have tuned them at 32-32.5" with 145-200gr. up front depending on the bow.  My two longbows which are not cut to center will handle the 250's fine but the past-center cut bows just seem to need the stiffer spine when shooting 32-33" arrows in my experiences with them.  Good luck...Shawn

Thanks for the advice guys, it seems I may be on the fence as far as spine goes.  I have a dozen of brand new 250's, and was'nt sure if I should trade for 350's.  But I guess I'll wait and see how they fly for me.

You could try the 250s at 32"s and go down a bit in point weight 225 may get ya close, but you are right, you are on the fence. 350 youmay need 275 up front, better be a bit weak than a bit stiff. Shawn

Widows are pretty tolerant of spine as they are cut well past center. The 250's may well work, depends how many gpp. you want to shoot. If you want 10 gpp. or more the 350's with plenty of weight up front may be the way to go, but if you don't mind 8-9 gpp. the 250's will be close. Shawn
