Just a heads up for anyone looking for a last minute bear hunt. I have 2 openings May29-June4. Those are the only hunters in camp that week so you'll have run of the 17+ baits. Thanks....Ryan
(http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu178/ryanderlago/mikesbearandcarp013.jpg)Just so you know what you might miss out on....here's my buddy Mike's 1st stickbow bear from last spring.
(http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu178/ryanderlago/09bear.jpg)Here's my '09' bear with the same longbow Mike now owns for building me a concrete counter top. The things you trade to keep the wife happy???
I can't believe you still have the hunts available. Those are two giant bears.
Man I wish I could!!!
Wow big bears. Going to be another year before I can go.
Nice bears!
I can tell you for certain Ryan, that there are more people who WANT to come hunt than you can count.
Many of us have had to "tighten the belt" and make cut backs on spending across many fronts.
Extra money is hard to come by.
I`m sure getting to meet YOU would be as much a draw to Manitoba as getting to meet one of those tanks you roam the woods with. :campfire:
This is the stuff bow-hunters dreams are made of!!!
I've said it before and I'll say it again, if I were ever going to try my hand at bear hunting, it would be with you Ryan.
I watch every video, look at each picture and read every post about or by you that pops up here.
Have a great season!
God bless,Mudd
VERY tempting!! I know if I bite, my wife will pack my bags for me whether I want her to or not!! :banghead:
Thanks so much for the kind words guys....you don't know how much that means to me!
I understand the economy these days and know that if I can make it work now that it'll be easy later.
Good news is that I have 3 different groups of 3 guys "possibly" interested.
Thanks again everyone...Ryan
Me money is paid, me broadheads are sharp, so bring on one of those pumpkin heads
Ryan is super to work with and I can't think of any group of fellas to spend the week with than Tradgangers. Ryan can I just come and stay 2 weeks if no one takes the slots? :) I don't know how to build a countertop but can sew up a split noggin' or set a broke wing should it occur :archer2:
Mike...wouldn't a 2 week bear hunt be nice? Wish I could offer that...too bad the hunting seasons are so short!
As far as fixin' a noggin' or wing...let's hope I don't have to take you up on that one. How about a bear bite or claw laceration? Wouldn't that make for a cool story and scar?.....and video footage! (Joking)
Can't wait to start a "Stickflingers" kill thread. I like the sound of that!...Ryan
Hmm I want I want wish I could
Only in my dreams.
Hmmm I sure hope I don't have to go back to trauma 101...I think bear claw/bite laceration repair is a bit outa my league. We don't get those injuries here in So Illinois. Now if we're talkin' spurred by a turkey or rotator suff injury from pulling giant whitetails into the back of a truck I'm your man
This is gonna be a GREAT experience! I have never hunted bears before, but after talking with Ryan and seeing the names of the guys that jumped in for his first year of offering hunts, I made it happen. Can't wait to see all of the big bears that end up on that Stickflingers thread after this spring ;)
This should be a no brainer:
1. Be in on the inaugural season with what will undoubtably one of the great bear outfitters of all time at a super price. This hunt will surely be the lowest price he ever charges.
2. Hunt an area that has not been hunted for 3 years. The previous outfitter lightly hunted only half of it. The outfitter on the adjoining concession only hunts the front, non adjacent half of his territory.
3. Hunt with a guy that not only knows bowhunting, but traditional bowhunting.
4. Comfy accomadations in a lakefront cabin with good fishing, food, and friends.
I don't know what more a guy could ask for!
For you to sponser me Steve! :) Wished I could come up, but with no job, not gonna happen...this year. Good luck guys!
I would have replied sooner but it's been hard walking around with this BIG head from all the compliments. Flattery can buy you a big bear...that's a scientific fact! (at least in my camp)
Seriously...we'll be into bears, shoot bows, eat lots of food, and have fun! Besides that I can't promise much! ....Ryan
Maybe next year. I need to start a "bear hunt fund"soon.
Rushlush, you've got to jump on one of those spots!
I can't wait for you to start a Stickflingers bear kill thread either! I'm hoping it has a couple teenagers prominently displayed after the first week of hunting.
Getting close Ryan! Tyler and Jen are very excited.
Ohhh....some day I hope!
Jim Im trying to get some things worked out before calling.
I bet Ryan is a genuine hoot!
Heartfelt wishes of luck for everyone going to Manitoba...safe journey, and a plea for some pictures and a story or two.
:archer2:
If I were not going to be in Australia hunting Asiatic buffalo with Andy Ivy and Mick Baker on those dates, I would have been the first guy sending Ryan my money! Have a great hunt.
Allan
Allan, you give me a full report on your hunt and I will repay in kind from Ryan's. I have a quote in my mailbox from Mick. Good luck!
Terry less than a month away! It's gonna be fun skinning Jen and Tyler's bears!
Picked up the caps and toques today. Here's the hats with my logo. (the hats are from Brother of the Bow (http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu178/ryanderlago/stickflingershats001.jpg)....and they are very comfy and practical)
Here's the toques. Yes..."toques (http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu178/ryanderlago/stickflingershats003.jpg)" are very Canadian!
I guess I should mention that each hunter or guest in camp gets to pick one. I know Steve O. is a big fan of the toque!
Nice! Do they both come with a head-net to keep the bugs outa my ears :p
I cannot wait to get my photo taken with my skookem bear and my fancy new touque! SWEET!
Maybe one of these days...
I sure would like to go!
Mike...never thought of a bug net attachment. Maybe next year! These hats come with "mojo" built in...can't put a price on that!
Robert...let me know when you're ready to come up and we'll start planning.
Steve...I have a feeling we're gonna have to start a whole new thread for all the pix. Ya think?
Ryan
Cool hats man, I'm gonna need all the built in "mojo" I can get this spring. Good luck to everyone coming up to Manitoba to hunt with Stickflingers. I can't wait for all the pics. :D
Earl gets a free hat too just for being one of my bestest buddies...and for "slappin' da bass" so awesomely in church today! You should see this guy jam!!!
Sweet looking hats Ryan! I'm betting Tyler and Jen will be styling in the touque.
We've had a wonderful week in Florida spending time with my mom and dad. Got in a lot of fishing and beach time. Tyler has caught probably 25 bass with at least 2 over 8#s. Jen caught 45 bass ONE morning. She sure knows how to take out the slack and set the hook. Scouted out LOTS of nice big gators for August.
Can't wait to be in Manitoba in a few weeks.
Thanks again for all your hard work Ryan.
Thanks Terry!
Those kids of yours are awesome.....you must be proud!
Gotta make it down one day to do the gator thing with you. Looks to me that you got their #!
Watch for pics to come soon from baiting....Ryan
Sounds great Ryan! You are welcome anytime.
Kids track coach isn't very happy with you right about now. Looks like they will miss their conference championship. Jen usually supplies 25% of the total team points and Tyler isn't far behind.
Down to 2 hunts available!
Those 2 hunts are May 29- June4. I've added a hunter for the following week so the 2 hunters will have run of the 17 baits. The couple extra baits is to accomodate the extra hunter making everyone each week have more possibilities. Let me know!
If it were not so expensive to fly there, I would have done it!
Truck and trailer are over-loaded and I'm heading out! See everyone in a few days!
BTW...bought a new camera for quality pix!
Good luck Ryan! Can't wait to see some photos.
Heard of a few bears moving up North of Winnipeg.
Steve, pack up the truck and drive. It has to be closer than NY and I'm driving. :)
hey my deposit is in! send me a hat! ( the Canadian style ) please oh pretty please!
Heard you were up setting and running baits. Can't wait to hear the results.
Got home at 2:30 am totally exhausted and was up at 7 with the family. Spring certainly is late up there but things are looking good. 7 of the baits already have bears at them this spring even though there is still snow in places. 5 of those 7 baits have MONSTERS on them ..seriously...no small bear sign!
Need to figure out the new camera as a couple pix are blurry. Will post pix later....Ryan
(http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu178/ryanderlago/1stbaittripSTICKFLINGERS001.jpg)Packed up ready to go!
(http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu178/ryanderlago/1stbaittripSTICKFLINGERS002.jpg) Not excited about how much snow was still around!
(http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu178/ryanderlago/1stbaittripSTICKFLINGERS003.jpg) This was the washout I was worried about. Thumbs up that it was an easy cross!
(http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu178/ryanderlago/1stbaittripSTICKFLINGERS004.jpg) Happy to be crossing!
(http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu178/ryanderlago/1stbaittripSTICKFLINGERS008.jpg)David crossing another washout. I had to break the ice 1st for the little guy!!
(http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu178/ryanderlago/1stbaittripSTICKFLINGERS005.jpg) Typical terrain to expect!
(http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu178/ryanderlago/1stbaittripSTICKFLINGERS006.jpg) Nice to see this big track near a beaver dam.
(http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu178/ryanderlago/1stbaittripSTICKFLINGERS014.jpg) David filling up a bait.....which a hawg is already hitting!!
Nothing like checking TG between kids baseball games to find GREAT NEWS! I am counting the days and cannot wait to get up there
(http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu178/ryanderlago/1stbaittripSTICKFLINGERS015.jpg) Neat story....Was filling up the bait, and after pouring in grease, this little guy popped out of the barrel covered in grease. He looked at me almost as if to say.."Whatcha do that for?" I took these blurry pix and offered him a stick to climb onto. He climbed on as if he knew the plan and I lowered him to the ground. He stayed there the whole time cleaning himself and occassionally giving me a dirty look. It was certainly interesting!
(http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu178/ryanderlago/1stbaittripSTICKFLINGERS009.jpg) Finally got to check out "home" for this spring. No frills bear hunting!!!
(http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu178/ryanderlago/1stbaittripSTICKFLINGERS012.jpg) The indoor story telling area.
(http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu178/ryanderlago/1stbaittripSTICKFLINGERS011.jpg) Stickflingers "Diner"!
(http://i645.photobucket.com/albums/uu178/ryanderlago/1stbaittripSTICKFLINGERS010.jpg) The lake that the cabin is on....shows you how late spring is!...Yes,,,,that is ice!
Great Pics.Man it still looks very cold there.Good Luck with those big bears!
The atv ride alone is an adventure in itself. It's pretty sweet to see evidence of big boars smashing the baits and it is not even May!
Still 2 spots open!
Awesome looking place Ryan. Can't wait to see it first hand. Glad to hear a few bears are up and moving around.
I looked at the weather forecast and it looks like you could get some nice warm weather next week.
Tyler and Jen are still shooting pretty good. I'm hopeful they can deliver for you.
Neat pics Ryan. See you in 3 weeks!
You guys are making me jealous...see you in 5 weeks :)
Brian, that beautiful longbow with the ash limbs that you built is gonna be firmly planted in my hand this whole trip. Good luck everyone!!!
Good luck to you too Mike. Glad to hear the TT's made the cut.
Could you pm me what dates you have available? Also, do you have ground blinds available? I just ruptured my achilles and don't think I will be climbing any treestands to soon!
James...The dates open are May 29-June4. There are 2 openings that week with no-one else scheduled that week. If one or two hunters book they get the run of 17 baits.
As far as ground hunting.....yes, we can accomodate ground hunters! Also, we can drive ATV's to within 50 yards of all the baits so an injury will not affect the hunt as much as it may with other species. Let me know...Ryan
should go for it James, you won't find a better outfitter.
Ryan... i wanna go BAD.
Good luck Guys
Getting set to go Ryan. See you in 3 weeks. I hope I don't need to bring a snow shovel. Ha! Mike
Man, can I come up and hit the ATV trails with you? Looks like a blast!! I don't think I have the 'stones' to bring my recurve up there yet...only been shooting for about 8 months.
Hmmm...how fast can you get a passport?
Ryan, is the JACUZZI on the back side of the cabin?
You bet Brian! We'll fill up the old canoe with water, all pile in, and feed me some dried apricots. That's a Canadian Jacuzzi!! Bet you can't wait...Ryan
Curvebo...8 months is plenty to shoot 5 yards!

:biglaugh:
I'll bring the wine and candles
5 yards. I love my guide!
Believe me, you don't want any dried apricots in camp. Ryan and apricots are a volatile mixture. I still have nightmares, the horror and the stench. Be sure to stay away from an enclosed area. :scared: :biglaugh
Dakota, you can get them pretty darn fast! You just have to pay an expedited fee.
Uh-oh...I don't know what makes me more nervous, bears at 5 yds or the Canadian Hot-tub. I will bring a sharp broadhead for the bears and some bean-o and noseplugs for the hot-tub. Outa be just fine
please don't bring any candles, open flame in that environment could be dangerous!!!! :biglaugh:
I'm glad I'm bringing my daughter and wife along. I'm sure Ryan, his dad, and David will be on their best behavior and I won't have to endure the apricot output! :)
Oh wait, maybe not! My daughter has been in several hunting camps and I've brought her up right with belching contests and other manly activities.
OK, so David, Ryan, and pops. Beware, not everything that comes out of that girl is sweet!!!
We'll make sure Ryan has a fire extinguisher on him at all times.
Terry, can't wait!
Apricots will stay at home week one as I will be very gentlemanly.....that means more for other weeks!!
Tic...Tic...Tic
Broadheads selected and bow tuned in w BH/arrow combination. check
Back-up bow selected and tuned to same BH/arrow combo. check

Hunt'n buddy lined up. check
Gear list made and packing ready to commence. check
OK Ryan.... let's get this party rolling..
Tic.. tok.... Tic.. tok..
Thanks Ryan! I'm sure the wife will appreciate it.
I can hardly wait to read about this hunt!!!
Bill
Brian, double check on my end!!! I am getting more pumped by the day. Come on June :)
8 wake ups and we're on the road! Getting close!
Hey guys take care of Brian, we have a hunt this fall in Ontario. Last year he promised wine and candles but he only brought bourbon?
We'llhave the vehicle packed and will be on the road driving one week from today!
I'm going to be a mess by the time next Friday get's here.
Gary, Bourbon is the "Elixir of Life". I do not leave home without it. You know that. :saywhat:
I see we are going to get along just fine Brian :D
You know they make a very fine Canadian Whiskey called Wiser's Very Old. Perhaps our guide will supplement our rations with said elixer :)
My equipment is packed as of last night, my arrows are numbered and ready for action, and my passport is burning a hole in my pocket. Let's roll :campfire:

Brian.... For a Yankee you sure have learned one of the true secrets. You could hang any time down here.
:bigsmyl: :bigsmyl:
Michael
Thanks, I'll consider that an invite. :)
Living in Lou'vlle for 7 years taught me one of life's greatest guilty pleasures ( and I ain't talk'n 'bout horse racin' either).
Also makes handlin' the mosquitos easier!
Ryan, we are a bit less discriminating. If you hook us up with some maximum strength hot chocolate you'll have a friend for life with my wife and daughter! Now, I really go for the hard stuff and will drink a Diet Mt. Dew on occasion!
Brian as old as I am I had forgotten about the "elixir of Life" thanks for reminding me. Either my mind is going or it's the Elixir, I guess it really doesn't matter, good hunting, I'm looking forward to this fall, you may need to remind me when we are heading out.
A wish of a safe journey to everyone travelling to hunt with Ryan.
Diet Terry? No, no I think you will be drinking straight up Mt. Dew on this trip!
Terry...I'm all about the hot chocolate....I'll even go as far as mixing it with coffee! Crazy but true! I think that's about as much as you'll see out of the "hardcore" Stickflingers crew! Does that rhyme??
Ryan, you're a poet and didn't know it!
I don't know David! Straight up Dew can have me running circles around camp and tackling bears with a pocket knife.
Note* Put the Dew under lock and key!!
David just took my truck home full of empty pails to dip grease for this week. His turn to get dirty!
I can honestly say I've never been this busy in my life...Ryan
You got any bears yet Ryan? Nothing on my baits yet. Getting frustrating. Good luck!
Hang in there Ryan! I was lucky enough to have baits hit this spring from oats leftover from last fall.....big bears too! Spring is too late to see big #'s of bears now but size doesn't seem to be a problem. Thanks for asking....Ryan
Courtesy of Ryan's truck and trailer I was able to dip 44 pails of grease today.
One guy asked if I rubbed it all over myself to attract the bears. Ya, sure!?
Although, if you go back and look at the baiting trip pics I looked like that mouse at the end of the day!
June 4, June 4, June 4. C'mon June 4.
Hey that's June 3rd Brian!!! That's when we get to blow this popcycle stand and head to hunt those bruins. I just hope I don't have to haul grease...
Mike haulin grease is part of the fun :) You haven't lived til you've hauled grease in for bear! Good luck guys! Thanks for the words of encouragement Ryan. More snow falling right now. It'll be summer before too long

44 pails dipped in one day, you are hardcore my friend. I dipped 4 pails for my bait and got filthy. Hope your wife likes the smell of french fries. :D
Tic-toc...Man I'm ready for some bear reports...and pics of some dead bears by Tradgangers. Myself included :)
In Washington we can't bait bears, but our hunting season is from August 1st - November 15th.
Getting closer. Tyler and Jen have been shooting good and staying in shape. Just got back from a big track meet. Jen broke her own pole vault school record again and Tyler won pole vault, long jump, and triple jump. I'm not gonna have a chance if a bear decides to chase one of us down! :)
Terry, Pack a pocket full of marshmellows and drop them as you exit hastily. I don't think it will stop the inevitable, but it may slow the bear down enough you'll last a few more seconds. :)
Thanks Brian! I can't help but chuckle when I hear marshmellows and bear hunting in the same sentence. Did you ever see Bill Langer's video with his dad Dick in it eating marshmellows? A guy shouldn't have that much fun eating marshmellows.
PM Sent
Earl just put it this way, it is a good thing I have children :)
Oh how I wish I was headed up your way Ryan.
Packed and will be heading North tomorrow afternoon!
Good luck to you and your family. Hope Manitoba is good to you all.
Good luck to everybody. Can't wait to hear the stories and see some pics. I am jealous.
Got a little note from Ryan tonight....
"The bear action looks really good. The report tonight is that all 3 hunters had bear action."
Three more weeks and I will be there hunting..
tic.. toc..tic..toc
Like the sound of that :) 16 days and we're Manitoba bound :campfire:
Hope the action is Hot!!!!
:campfire:
I received a call from my guide David this evening that put a smile on my face. Sorry, but it's not my story to tell!...Ryan
teaser!
I am digging that :bigsmyl:
Yeah boy! :clapper:
:bigsmyl:
:jumper:
Lots of bears being seen and plenty of shooting opportunities. 2 spots still open for May29- June4. Those 2 hunters will have all the baits to themselves. Kinda last minute but a good opportunity!...Ryan
A little birdie has sent me a photo :readit: :bigsmyl: :clapper:
:coffee:
I am ready for a story :campfire: Very happy for WHOEVER connected!
Ryan if I could stay two weeks and come a week earlier I would :) As it is I will take my week up there with you and run like a thief in the night and consider myself lucky to be in such good company. 14 more days and we are Canada bound! :archer2:
I'm blushing!!!
Just lobbying for you to put me on a bear bigger than those "other" Talltines fans that are coming the 2 weeks before me :jumper:
Save me a blondie, 'bout 6 feet with good teeth...ohhh wait that's my wife. Sorry :p
We are on our way home from Stickflinger's Manitoba Bowhunts and all I can say is WOW! If you want to kill a big and/or color phased bear you should snap up the last two slots Ryan has available. We only hunted two days and saw 3 different color phase bears and a good solid P&Y blackie and I think between the three hunters 12 different bears.
I think the kids stories deserve their own thread, so I'll start it up top.
Thanks Ryan, David, Ron, and Bea! We enjoyed being part of your family.
We need more updates!!!!!!!!!!!
Rumor has it SteveO got scared the first night on stand when a 60lb yearling came in and he called to come out before dark.
Must be Steve-O won't fork over the Canadian roaming charges to text an update. :biglaugh:
That's too funny! I have to admit when Jen and I were sitting about 8 yards from the bait in a ground blind and our back was to a thick dark draw that it was a bit spooky. I had the bear spray out and a knife hanging on a limb.
Here's Tyler's bear just to put it in this thread as well.
Man that is a gorgeous bear! Congrats again!
Awesome! Now for the story :campfire:
Did SteveO get lost.........again (he normally wears a little bell so his hunting partners can find him) or did he run out of arrows again and is trying to find them all :saywhat:
Tic Toc..
Waiting on updates from this week's group.
Waiting on another week to pass... This time next Friday wapiti792 and I are on the road Manitiba bound...
Tic Toc
:campfire:
Ryan did you guys get lost in the woods? LOL whats going on?
:dunno:
Bill
I don't think Ryan is lost, probably hoisting some huge bruins from the bush!
In about 12 hours from now Brian and I will be North-bound to find Ryan...and some bears :bigsmyl:
Good Luck Mike!!
Best of luck to you guys I wish I was going.
Gonna have to start a new post...on my way home from the best hunt I have ever done. Pics and new post in 12 hours or so :)
:campfire: :jumper: :jumper:
You could just tease us with one pic
doug77
How many Bears on the ground so far and what size??? :campfire: :dunno: :dunno:
Those guys are going to start a new thread, this one is too cumbersome! They went 6 for 6 on this final week...there will be LOTS of stories I am sure.
:clapper:
:campfire: :coffee:
That's five for five Steve...that sixth one was with "other" tackle :) Ryan's camp was 6 for 6. What a place! I got lots more to say but I can't without photos and the help from my travel partner. We got about 3 hours left of the 24 hours of hades but let's just say we are loaded with bear meat, hides, skulls, and bloody arras ;)
Tracy told me a little something Mike! Get 'em up when you can :)
