A couple of weekends ago I had the chance to slip out with my bow to do a little shed hunting, scouting, and stump shooting. It was the night of the Supermoon so it only seemed right to be out in the woods.

"Strung up and ready to go hunt some "stumps".
This is a sinkhole below my house, good evening hunt spot.....

Here is the backfield looking east. I have seen everything from coyotes to deer in this field from my kichen window.

Way out there, there were two logs laying with the one having a nice green mossy section(usually means nice, soft, punky wood). Probably 35+ yards......

I draw the Slammer back full, hit my anchor point, and let the Beaman slip from my fingers.

Close,but no cigar!
What is great about stump shooting is that you can take advantage of other slobs litter. This can took a solid hit from across the creek.

Carry a plastic bag with you to carry out the trash.
Getting up to the end of the deep hollow there is a nice rub line that comes off of the sidehill. I never got a look at the buck that made this and there are some on trees even larger up on the top ridge....

I hope he made it through gun season.
It was starting to get late and there was a bedding area that I wanted to check out before heading home so I scaled up the bank and started dropping down over. As I got closer the woods exploded in that familiar gray-brown and there were deer everywhere. I really thought that they would have been out of there beds by now. Checked the area real good and not a shed to be found.
Worked my way down to the back field and was greeted by such a beautiful sight....

Nice pics...I love the bow with the buck rub...nice!
Good stuff.
There used to be local legends about the "bottomless" glacial sink-holes in this area.
Thanks for the pics
I love the lines and shootability of Leons bows-
nice pics and it looks like a real good time. Thanks Craig
Thanks for sharing the pics.
No excuse for trash, targets or no. Always come out w/extra in my bag also. Have been surprised recently by all the stumpshooters. Really just makes good sense having great fun practicing effectively. Really good pix. Thanks.
Stump'n.....it don't get any better
Cool pictures and nice bow.
That rub looks like a "traditional" i.e. yearly spot for that activity, old sign with fresher over top. Great pics, and good on ya for the sanitation engineer work. Stump'n is maybe the second best bow n'arrow activity we've got...
Nice picts and story. great shot!
Thanks for sharing the pics, Craig.

Only one thing would make that more enjoyable for me...
that would be to go along with you! Your bow looks much like mine. Take a moment to thank your lucky stars that you can go wander like that. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks everyone for the nice compliments. Stumpshooting has always been a favorite of mine and I wanted to see how the Beaman (skinny) MFX would hold up. They are a tough shaft.

Love threads like this one! My son and I were out "flingin' flu flu's" this past Sunday! Yep...does our souls good! Thank you God!
Monkeyball, You ta Man!.. Love the first picture of the Slammer with the Steward hat. I am going to wear mine out, cuz of overuse. Also loved the moon shot. After seeing the pics I wanted to grab my slammer and chase some stumps but work and rain made me reconsider. That was a great tread and appreciate it. Would have liked to have seen the belly and back of the bow also. Hope to get together soon.
looks like fun!!
Definitely agree. I taught my kids to carry a large ziplok bag when stump shooting to take out trash too. I tell 'em to leave it better than you found it, and if you pack it in, pack it out.
Nice bow too!
Bow looks like a keeper Craig.
