Title: need advice on a youth bow
Post by: Bow50 on April 10, 2011, 11:55:00 AM
Me and my wife have recently been blessed with a 10 yr. old foster child AND she loves to shoot her litte red fiberglass bow but she's 5'6" SO
I am looking for a wooden recurve for her but I am clueless about AMO length, draw weight, etc. for her. Also can anybody recommend a brand for this type of youth bow ? I have looked at a few at 3 Rivers...I would value advice from any experienced Dads out there (my first time out,LOL)
Thanks in Advance,
Doug

Maddog Archery (also a sponsor here) would be a good person to call.  He specializes in just what you are talking about and can tell you exactly what you need.  He is a great guy to deal with!

Both my daughters (4,7) love to shoot. They shoot the same bows. They are fiberglass also and 54" and 15#. I will be getting the oldest one a new one this year.

I also suggest maddog archery.

My 8 y/o son is shootin 17@22 easily as a reference. I need to move him up in weight. I would think she could handle 22-25#. Contact Mike at maddog he makes alot of bows for the youth and would be a good source of what weight to start out with.

Another vote for Mike at Maddog, he makes fantasitc short recurve or longbows.

You can't go wrong with Maddog Archery.

(I have a bow coming for my 6 year old daughter this week).  :)

I have bought two Maddog bows from Mike to give as presents to the kids of my friends. They are nice bows and Mike is a great guy.

5'6" at 10 years old?  Get her a basketball.  Or maybe a volleyball  :)

Timely thread for me. I just spoke with Mike and placed an order on a Pup longbow.
