Title: Sharpening Question
Post by: TimRadke on April 08, 2011, 06:15:00 PM
Relative newby here... and a complete rookie at sharpening.  I need an approx 175grain head (screw-in) for turkeys.  I really like the idea of the simmons shark, but I worried that the concave edge on it is going to be difficult for me to learn on for sharpening... I was then thinking that the woodsman elite wouldn't be bad, but I'd like to shoot the same head for turkeys and deer, and want to stick with a 2 blade for deer for penetration purposes.

So the main question is this - would it be a mistake to go with the Simmons while learning how to sharpen?  Secondary question - what would be a good 175 grain screw in 2 blade to use and learn on?

thanks in advance!

I don't think the simmons would be a mistake. I have had great luck with a rada sharpener on most types of 2 blade heads. Another good choice would be a zwickey delta. Both great heads.

In my penetration test the woodsman elite did as well as magnus stingers Im shure you would do well with any choice. I use woodsman elites for everything and have had good luck with them but they are not as easy as a 2-blade to sharpen IMO. Widow

thanks gentlemen.  Would the KME jig work with the Simmons Shark?  (165 grain)
